  • where did you buy the assembly? please respond ASAP!!!

  • @kingblood33 eBay. It's in the description. Thanks for the comment!

  • I did both rear windows on my 328i. I paid more for my regulator (about $70 w/free shipping), but it was a good 3 hr job and a real pain. BMW should have done a better job designing that part.

  • @oleabbaman I agree, BMW should have done a better job on that design.

  • @oleabbaman please oh please oh plllleeeeeeeaaassseee tell me how you got the rear door panel off!!!!! i REALLY dont want to break the clips that are holding it on and cant find a video to help me out! so my fate is in your hands...... no pressure

  • @walter77jensoning All I can offer is the video I have here.

  • I just did this repair about a half hour ago and it was no f'n walk through the park. I replaced the entire assembly along with the motor for the front driver side window and the entire assembly cost me $57 with free shipping from a vendor on eBay. I started at 1630 and finished around 1940 but I saved a ton of loot. BMW charged me over $400 about 4 years ago to fix the passenger side one.....ba$tard$! I should be able to do the job in under 2 hours for any future repairs...thanks for the video.

  • @Supreme2u Thanks for watching and for the comment!

  • This video was very helpful and saved me a nice chunk of cash. Thanks a lot

  • @douglashusky11 Thanks for the comment!

  • oh god mine just broke today and i was wtf .... but mine it goes down but not up -_-''' i guests im going to get a rear left regulator and buy it on ebay to

  • @yun514 Thanks for watching! God luck on your repair.

  • Well, thanks anyway. Happy new year.

  • @Mrpracticaltactical Good luck to you. Happy New Year!

  • No there's no grinding or rubbing sounds and sometimes it functions flawlessly. It's like the computer just goes retarded or something and doesn't want the window to go up. Someone said the motor may be going bad but the motor when it is working doesn't slow down at all. It just either works well or does not all.

  • @Mrpracticaltactical I'm not sure what the problem could be.

  • How'd you reset the auto up, auto down function? I just replaced one of these and the god damned thing keeps intermittently stopping when trying to roll it up. Sometimes it doesn't want to function at all. Other times it works great. I think I know what the BM stands for in BMW.

  • @Mrpracticaltactical I didn't reset anything. It sounds like your window maybe getting jammed in some way.

  • Great Video! Made it easy to do with your step by step instructions. I had to replace both rear regulators. Did each one in about 20 minutes. Thanks again for this video!!!

  • @OHPL8S Thanks for the comment!

  • Thanks to EdzGarage, I could change the window regulator myself. I basically saved $200 since i didn't have to bring it to a mechanic shop. I appreciate your video.

  • @lightstar27 Thanks for the comment!

  • Thanks for sharing ! Great video. I just replaced the regulator on my 325i 2001 left rear window. The video was a great help. The cost for me was ~ $24 (bought the regulator from ebay) compared to ~$400 I paid for the other rear window.

  • @abuqaem Thanks for the comment!

  • Great Video! A year ago, I had the same problem with the front driver side window regulator and I paid over $300(part + Labor) at the BMW dealer to get it fixed. I recently experienced the same problem with the rear driver side. I watched your video and motivated to do it myself. I bought the part online for $40 and today I successfully replaced the window regulator. Thanks for your video I saved a couple of hundred dollars. FYI,my car is 1999 BMW 328i.

  • @atessema Thanks for the comment!

  • Great Video!

  • @atessema Thanks for watching!

  • edzgarage - I've got the exact same problem with the same window, ordered the part of ebay today, thanks for the how-to. A related question though - have you heard/had experience with a window (front driver side in my case) that will still go up, but needs to be helped along by being pulled as the motor runs? Trying to decide whether it's a regulator or window motor issue without taking the door panel off more than once.

  • @jacoblrussell No, I haven't had any issues with my front windows yet. It sounds like the regulator may need to be lubricated. Thanks for the comment!

  • nice video..price from dealer is 163.00 dllrs and autozone is 70..in ebay is 30 dllrs...and is easy to fix it

  • @rafaelkollins Sure is an easy fix. Thanks for the comment!

  • Thanks mate, very well narrated video. It seems like the E46 models have a weak spot on the regulator design. I also sprayed my rails with a silcone lubricant

  • @Appydem The e46 does have issues with the window regulators. Thanks for the comment!

  • Thank-you for posting this... I was able to replace my broken regulator with relative ease from your instructions ....the only thing i think you missed is the the 2 screws under the arm rest that need to come off before you pull the door cover off the "snaps". My car is is a 2002 325xi not sure if this is different with other models...outside of this this your instructions are spot on. Cheers

  • @titanmckenna Thanks for the comment! I did add some extra annotations at 1:26 referring to the armrest screws. If you have annotations off you wont see them.

  • @edzgarage

    Hey,

Your video is super informative and helpful. My one question before I try this repair myself is if that ebay "cheap" regulator holds up? I am skeptical of the quality considering the dealer charges $170 for that same part.

Your comments would be greatly appreciated! I am a student so I am all for saving money! but I also don't want to have to be repairing the regulator over again because of a cheap part.

  • @Sourixay Thanks for the comment! The part I bought is still doing the job. It looked just like the OEM part only not broken lol Good luck on your repair.

  • Great video!

would you be able to tell me if the window glass would be easy to replace?

do you just slide the glass through the top and bolt it up?

    Someone busted mine last night...

  • @bigass12342002 That sucks! I'm not sure how the window comes out, but it has to just slip in from the top. You may need to remove the weather stripping.

  • thank you so much for the vid man..realy helped out alot

  • @Skater4711 Thanks for the comment!

  • Thank You so much for this. Great vid btw

  • @AKDiligence Thanks for the comment!

  • Cheers for that. That 8mm bolt that holds the regulator to the window refuses to turn. Tried everything, but no luck. I hope I don't have to break the glass and get a new one to get it out :( any tips?

  • @SauronGorthaur I used an impact gun on mine.

  • Great video, Thanks you ed, you help me saved a lot!!

    Peter k

  • @pk0927 Thanks for the comment!

  • Ty so much for this!!! Super helpful and to the point!!:) Just what I needed to tackle this tomorrow afternoon!

  • @DefineYouPhotography Thanks for the comment! Good luck on the project.

  • Dynamat helps dampen aggresive door closing which tends to brake the plastic piece on the window regulator that carries the cable end. Mass in motion likes to stay in motion and the poorly designed plastic piece is not up to the task. I have a Sport 328i and closing the doors sounded like a tin can rattling. With the Dynamt installed the doors close with a solid clunk and the extra mass in the door helps to dampen the effects of aggressive door closing.

  • @ch47av8r Thanks for the comment and tip on sound dampening. Mine actually broke when the front door was closed believe it or not.

  • Thanks for the video, although I am not fixing this myself, at least now I know if I am being over charged at the garage. BTW mine are the two front windows so I hope the airbag is not a problem...:)

  • @TheTibs2006 No, the air bags should not be a problem.

  • Thank you so much for this video. Just what I needed to fix my window. You saved me a Saturday afternoon of frustration!

  • @kevinmiller77 Thanks for the comment!

  • Thanks ed

  • @bigmak90 Thanks for watching!

  • Thank you men, this is exactly what I was looking for. This is some chartiy work for people like me that doesn't want to give my money away to the Stealers (Dealers).

  • @hilmaster1 I agree with the Stealer comment! Thanks for the comment!

  • i have the same problem ...

i worked today 5 hours on that shit-....

    tomorrow i will fix it

    ur vid will help :-)

  • @89MQ Thanks for the comment! Good luck with the project.

  • @edzgarage

    hello again..

i tried to fix it but it will never work because one rope is not long the 2 ropes have different length

i have to buy new set ..

  • Fine job Buddy!! That is a lot more involved than the Jeep window!!☺

  • @805ROADKING Thanks Everett!

  • THANK YOU,SIR. IT HELPED A LOT. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

  • @156tempra Thanks for the comment!

  • thanks! i had the same problem with my car and your video realy helped me

  • @bolobog Thanks for the comment!

  • Hi Ed,

Thanks for putting up great videos on BMW repair. It's funny but we are here in Germany and quite often we are watching your videos before starting some work on one of our E46 series...

While most of the German videos are of low to no quality your vids always help.

    Thanks for it!

    Greetings from Germany.

  • @SuperSupersnooper Thank you so much for the comment! This is why I do these video.

  • Work just like your video! Thanks! BIG HELP!!

  • @OHPL8S Thanks for the comment!

  • this should work on an e46 323ci right?

  • @AliYaacoobi It should be the same.

  • anyone know how to remove and replace the drivers door window guide on a 2003 BMW 330xi?

  • Do you have the name of the Ebay merchant. I am very interested in buying the rear and the front regulator. all the windows have been replaced. Bmw should stop putting this regulator on their cars. I love the car but the windows is high maintenance!!!!! i hope that you can share the seller. Thanks for the video and you did a great job!

    Jocelyn

  • @hatsbyjocelyn I went back and looked but I could not find which seller I bought from. Thanks for the comment!

  • hey thanks for the diy video on the window regulator vid... help alot . i was also noticing that you had red interior n red door panels . n from what i know sedans didnt come with red interior (imola red) . I was gonna ask you what you use to get them that color . i know there is leatherique ... ....your seats looks great from what i can see . ? just wondering what you use or what you did to get them like that . thanks two thumps up on the vid

  • @shadowchic2006 Thanks for the comment! In 01 the 325i had a limited run of red interior. I bought the car used and really like the red because it was different from all the others I looked at.

  • at the part of 6:45. is there something supposed to be behind the nut? i am very confussed and cant get that screw to stay in.

  • @bwc1ngame The nut is held in by the plastic retainer. The bolt should easily find it. Not sure why yours is giving you trouble.

  • @edzgarage thanks. had to run to local shop to buy a nut.

  • @edzgarage 1---- Yea.. But i returned it. & i got it New from ebay ($80 bucks). LOL. is amazing how this little body shop store. rip u off..

  • $30 Bucks???? what i paid $150 for a used Regulator. for my E90 Bmw. new was $350

  • @Cangri69 I know, I said the same thing when I went to the stealer. I can't believe what they get these parts. It pays to shop eBay sometimes.

  • This was a great video and gives me confidence I'll be able to reassembled my window regulator! Sadly I didn't watch this video before removing it and lost the nut that connects the window to the regulator. But either way DIY videos like this are a great service--THANK YOU!

  • @scottkrueger4 Thanks for the comment and hopefully you find a replacement nut.

  • very helpful video! saved me a lot of trouble. thanks!!

  • @sasso05 Thanks for watching!

  • so if cables are messed up then for sure its the regulator?

  • @kmwpa Yes

  • big help thanks man!

  • @mccalldoug85 Thanks for the comment!

  • Great video, thank you - can you tell me if you had to purchase any window regulator clips and how you used them?

  • @diven36 Thanks for the comment! No, I didn't have to buy any clips, and I'm not sure what they are, sorry.

  • @edzgarage So, I was finally able to swap out the regulator and put everything together like new! Thank you!! Buttttttt, now my car won't start! Just click click click.. Every light works fine, dashboard on, so on.. The windows all go sooooo slooooow when key is in position 2. Any suggestions!?

  • @doncimparfait18 Try charging or jumping the battery if you haven't already.

  • @edzgarage Hmmm.. I easily took the panel off and removed the motor. But for some reason cannot get the window to move down on the regulator slide at all! If you have any pointers, I'll be waiting patiently but nonetheless, great video!!

  • @doncimparfait18 If the cables are broken maybe they are jamming it up. Like I showed in my vid, the window should move freely once the motor is out. Good luck.

  • @doncimparfait18

Turn the old plastic gear with needlenose pliers as you are pushing the window down.

  • Question.. If I cannot get my window down, how would I go about getting that bolt that you need to get the regulator off? Can I just manually push my window? Will that break anything if I push it down like that? Thanks ahead of time for your responses!

  • @doncimparfait18 Once you have the motor out the window should slide up and down.

  • hey mate good video!! mine seems to be same problem.. quick question... I have a 325i e46 2003 and it has airbags in the door... does yours have airbags? do i disconnect the battery before working on the regulator.. (its Rear left) cheers

  • @3everlast Hello! Thanks for the comment. I do not have rear air bags. I would disconnect the battery if you have air bags just to be safe.

  • Wow! I have a 2002 BMW 325i and your videos are VERY helpful and well done. Very descripted and procise. Thank you so much. You saved me tons of money since i dont have to take it to the shop anymore.

  • @jwilsonball5 Thanks for the comment! I really appreciate your feedback.

  • Hey man, I would like to say thank you so much for making this video, I had the exact same problem with the rear right window regulator on my 2003 BMW 325i, I spent just $60 on the replacement part instead of the $436 the dealership wanted to charge me to fix it lol. I have one question though, when I pulled out the window motor there was a black rubber thing that was broken on the end of the motor that connects to the window regulator, is that something that should be on the motor?

  • @MnNick1 Thanks for the comment! I'm not sure what the broken part on your motor is. My motor had a white gear that attached to the regulator.

  • @edzgarage GEAR!, lol thats the word I was looking for, on the gear there was a black rubber thing around it when I took the motor off the originial regulator, is that some kind of gasket?

  • @MnNick1 I think it is a rubber gasket, but I'm not certain.

  • Great Video !!!

  • @ferndog77 Thanks for the comment!

  • Good video--- nice camera work also----You just saved me a load of cash-----I priced out a regulator at a local BMW dealer ---- almost had a coronary $208 without the motor and 2 hours labour to install it at $ 133 / hr.

With tax thats around $500 No wonder I,m having second and third thoughts about ever buying another BMW ---- no matter how good they drive.

I'd have to get my hands in there and also hit E-Bay.

    Excellent video dude

  • @millwrightman99 Thanks for the comment! It's amazing what the stealership charges for a job like this. Checkout my other vids on this car, you be able to save some more money.

  • hi my mechanic fix the window regulator in back door of my bmw 325i 2002, but after that when rains leaks how can i fixed, thank you.

  • @tele21 If it leaks from the top of the glass the window was in the wrong position when the motor was put back on.

  • any idea how different this would be for a 98 528i? both of my rear regulators went out but i can still hear the motor turning so should i just get the regulator without the motor? i went to a mechanic and he said it was all one piece just wondering if you know anything about it

  • @thorfoxxx From what I can tell the motor does separate from the regulator. I checked eBay and the regulators are sold without the motor. The job does look simular but not exactly the same as my car.

  • My windows just started making a cracking noise, and has trouble going up and down. This video was fantastic. Great quality, Very clear for the most part. I'm about to hit the susbcribe button now. Thank you.

  • @Omardottcom Thanks for the comment and the sub!

I really appreciate your feedback, it helps me make better videos. You said the the vid was "clear for the most part" Is some thing not very clear or do I need to add something to make it clearer? Thanks again for watching -Ed

  • Awesome video Ed, thanks a lot, your videos are extremely helpful and inspirational! I recently bought by my first bimmer and it is a 2001 325i. Since I am a "do-it-myself" kind of person, your videos are really handy, thanks for helping us save some money appreciate it!

  • @vitore66 Thanks for the comment! I appreciate you taking the time to write this note. I will keep posting vids as I do work on the car.

  • Ed, Thanks for the video, I took my door apart and am waiting for the part I ordered on Ebay for $48.00. I had 1 of them replaced already.I was quoted by one shop at $400.00 but went for a body shop that charged me $200.00 so I'm saving myself $150 for a fairly easy job..

  • @doobiebrother3729 You are welcome! I'm glad the vid helped you out. Isn't it ridicules what the "stealership" charges for these type of repairs?! Have a cold one for me with the money you saved lol

  • Ed this video is perfect. Thanks. One question though. What tool did you use to pop off the wood trim to access the bolts?

  • @ChuckBeans8 Thanks! I pulled hard on the edge of the trim opposite the handle. At the door handle there are tabs the go into the plastic, so you need to start on the other end.

  • could you tell me where to get a rear driver's side regulator? link or something , thanks

  • @Armixs Go to eBay and put in "e46 left rear regulator"

  • GREAT job explaining stuff Ed! Imagine if you had to take that someplace.... They'd rip ya off!

    Fantastic job Ed!

    Great vid

  • @mbyr31 Thanks Matt!

  • @wolfsheadoil Thanks Mike!

  • Gotta love those BMW's. :)

  • @susanloveshuskies lol the love comes and goes....

  • Wow! What a good deal you got for that regulator.

  • @RockinGuy1994 Thanks, it's good quality too!

  • Wow that seem like a verry good price for those part. Good deal.

  • @IHcubcadet I thought it was good deal too. It works perfect now!

  • Great job!! I clicked on the right one this time. LOL

  • @dirtriderkx500 Thanks Mike!

  • Nice work edz. I sure like those 325s, they're about the best looking sport sedan type cars I see on the road. $25 is a lot better than what I was guessing. Could have been $250 from BMW.

  • @TheSaturnV Thanks a lot Saturn! I bet BMW gets a lot for these too.

  • @edzgarage So you found some kind of "aftermarket" piece on ebay?

  • @TheSaturnV Yep, there are a lot of sellers on eBay with these parts. This one had the best reviews and it looks like pretty good quality too.

  • Once again....Awesome vid!!

  • @syphic Thanks for watching!

  • Great job Buddy!! I use to hate working on window regulators, never enough room, too many sharp edges and too much like working on a puzzle. I never worked on one with cables though.

  • @805ROADKING Thanks a lot for the comment. This was a lot easier then I thought it would be.

  • You were lucky with that glass, those things have a habit of smashing when the regulators go, great job.

Handy tip: If you have some lithium grease handy, coat those regulator cables. Here they tend to rust out. But your old one looked fine :)

  • @foxdmulder I was lucky the glass did not break. It was a hard hit in the door. Thanks for the grease tip too!

  • great work Ed.......glad the glass didn't break when it all went ka-put!

  • @1968hambone Thanks HB!

  • Yay! Bimmer stuff!

  • @mallydangerous lol Just for you! Thanks for the comment

  • cool and 30 bucks is real cheap

  • @MrJohnjake Sure was and it was made well too! Thanks for the comment.

  • Loving the 325i E46 Ed! And your red interior is DROOL.

Keep up the videos, I learned most of the stuff from you since the videos are very good.

  • @Kenstaxboi Thanks a lot! I wasn't sure I liked the red leather interior at first, but now I do like it. I hear it's not a very common color and hard to find.

  • ahhhhhh you have to hate those bmw regulatorsif the slide doesnt go bad the cam wheel breaks and thats if the cable doesnt break, bmws cutting edge until you get to the regulators LOL.what i do is let the window down take out that bolt that holds the window and then push the window all the way up and wedge a couple match books againest the window in the track to hold it then unbolt the window reg............huh on the 540 and the 528 (97-98 ) have a micro presure switch that stops the window

  • @Needmorehorsepower I heard these were a problem in these cars. I didn't mention it in the vid, but this one was replaced before I got car. I know this because all the tape that holds the wires was broken or gone.

  • nice job ed , your the man :)

a screw behind the switch, are you freaking kidding me .

that door panel would have frustrated me so much

i would have done ripped it off by the armrest . lol

  • @500passwords Thanks buddy! I really mean it.

I almost ripped the door skin off before I found the hidden screw! lol

  • @500passwords i cant tell you how many door pannels ive broken because the dam engineers sit around and say "hey where sould we hide the screws " LOL

  • @Needmorehorsepower Damn engineers! lol

  • @edzgarage no offence ed,the electrical engineering is top notch LOL

  • @Needmorehorsepower No offense taken Scott

lol on the top notch engineering... if you only knew lol

  • @edzgarage oh im sure .......you guys probably work for an hour or 2 and then its party time LOL

  • @Needmorehorsepower

damn engineers , there always up to no good . lol

  • Wow that's a pretty easy regulator to change out.. The motor mounting is a dream too!

  • @ghtowagon It was easy. I'm so glad too lol! Thanks for the comment.

  • nice interior and whole car and gladly the window didn't break or crack great video ebay does wonder :)

  • @01DodgeRAM1500V8 Thanks! I do like the car. I was glad the window didn't explode on impact lol. eBay is the best too! Any luck on your stereo?
