  • Great vid. I agree 100%. Human is human is human. By the way, XuyenaCorp is a retard!

  • Personally I think live and let live is a great philosophy considering the alternatives. Also I think comparing your problems as an athiest to racial bigotry and homophobia is way off the mark. Simply put, disagreement with a philosophy or life style is not bigotry and you will never see the day when everyone agrees with you. Just because I disagree with you, doesn't mean I hate you, and it takes real hatred to be a true bigot. Does that make any sense?

  • I think posting your opinions and arguing for what you believe in is already against the notion of "live and let live".

  • This is an incredibly uncivil video. So now I'm supposed to accept anyone as an "equal human being"? For what? For the act of breathing? Fuck that, you're a god damn tyrant. I don't value people equally, nobody does, that is insane and you are ridiculous for thinking such a thing. Some personality traits people don't like, and it's not objective, your values aren't objective, they are subjective. There is nothing "true" about accepting homosexuals.

  • @fringeelements So lets get this straight. My desire to see LGBT citizens, along with Atheists, given equal acceptance as human beings deserving of the same social status as everyone else makes me a "Tyrant"? Guess I'm a fucking tyrant then.

I don't care what your personal hangups with homosexuality may be. That's your problem. Fix it.

  • @PaulsEgo

Homosexuals never have and never will be "equal" to straights" on certain issues. For a given culture they cannot reproduce. Demography is destiny as we see in Europe with increased Islamization and Hispanic nationalism in the US southwest. Secular humanism is another bankrupt religious moral ideology as is the obsession for non realistic equality. Nature never has and never will create equality in social, economic, or pretty much any other area. Fringeelements is gay.

  • Your argument can be used to force people to embrace any behavior in the same way you demand they embrace my faggotry. I want to put a million piercings in my face and look like a freak. You can't just tolerate me, you have to embrace me, you have to treat me normally. My religion says to never cover my gentials. I don't believe in bathing. These are all actions, just like sucking dick, and since determinism is true, they're all as preordained as homosex. Anti-libertarianism leads to war.

  • @fringeelements Putting a million piercings in your face is a choice. Not bathing, or running around with your wang hanging out is a choice. I don't remember ever choosing to be attracted to members of the opposite sex, nor have I ever spoken to a gay man who chose to like dick over vagina.

None of the examples you gave have any bearing on the discussion. Of course if you choose to smear feces all over yourself, people are going to shun you, as well they should.

  • @PaulsEgo I like the phrase "personality traits", as if homosexuality is like being too chatty, or chewing your food too fucking loud. Would being a woman or minority also be considered a "personality trait"?

  • @PaulsEgo

that would be a good argument is fringeelements wasnt a homosexual himself.

  • @SecularNumanist That doesn't make it not a good argument since he's dragging the ship down with himself.

  • @fringeelements I agree ... that practically no one values each other at the same level... but we do it for different reasons. Some do it because of wealth, status, personality, etc ... others do it because of race, gender, stature, beauty, sexuality... Most do it unconsciously for all the above ... I don't think it's practical to expect equal acceptance because people will always have preferences for short, tall, fat, skinny, straight gay ... whatever... but it would be nice you know...

  • Let the Fat guy to FORCE his views to everyone.

    I love Stateists like him

More Power to the Government, broda!

Let's Use Military to Force Your SUBJECTIVE views to EVERYBODY!

    Police State is the Best!

  • @fringeelements

The US Constitution dumbass, read it.

  • @fringeelements So in your opinion bigotry is civil and acceptance is uncivil? Okay.

  • @fringeelements

Homosexuality is not a personality trait. I work with a couple of gay guys. One of them is a really nice bloke. The other is a total drama queen and a real pain in the ass.

So yes of course you should not have to accept everybody for how they are, some people your not going to like. BUT not liking someone because of their sexuality, skin colour, sex, disability makes you an asshole and a simpleton.

It is NOT ok to judge people for shit they didn't choose.

  • Its a bit utopian, as long as we allow freedom of mind there will be hate. If its not about where your sticking your penis, it will be something else.

  • Can't speak for my whole community, but as a gay man (and my friends would agree) I don't think you were speaking out of turn at all. I can also say, that if the 13 year old suicidal me were to stumble across this video in the past, it woulda given me a lot of hope to hear an older straight man say my humanity mattered... (oh lord Im tearing up)

Also, as a Christian, I want to say that your value and worth and acceptance as an atheist matters to me. There are certainly parallels between us.

  • Dang, I'm probably not the first to say "The cake is a lie" on this video.

  • Racism, bigotry and hatred are part of freedom of thought and freedom of speech.

And to me, freedom of speech & thought are fucking untouchable, sacred rights.

  • @painkillerzman

    Of course!

Don't misunderstand: I think the point here is that when a certain tipping point in the reduction of ignorance is reached, a given minority is generally no longer viewed as some untrusted "other", tolerated only begrudgingly, but instead accepted as merely a collection of "regular" people.

It's only when this point is reached that there is no need to fight the same old battles over and over again.

  • @bowlsallbroken What "same old battles " are you talking about ?

  • @painkillerzman

The legal and social battles for a minorities basic human rights. Once they become accepted as being more or less like everyone else then they don't need to fight to be treated as equals.

  • @bowlsallbroken Minorities should be allowed the same rights, but they should not be sheltered from criticism no matter how hateful or bigoted it is just because they are a minority.

As far as I know, in most, if not all. western countries minorities are considered (legally) equal. But the issue that is discussed in this video is that people express negative feelings towards minorities who want to be treated like everyone not just by the law but by everyone which is totally stupid.

  • @painkillerzman

"they should not be sheltered from criticism no matter how hateful or bigoted it is"

Of course I agree that by the principle of Freedom of Speech that people should be allowed to express bigotry, but the entire point here is that it's shameful that people still feel the need to do so.

"As far as I know, in most, if not all. western countries minorities are considered (legally) equal."

Did you miss the glaring example of the right of gay people to marry the person they love?

  • @bowlsallbroken "but the entire point here is that it's shameful that people still feel the need to do so" a logical argument is never shameful, even if it's bigoted.

As I said, gays can marry in most western countries, exept in the U.S. (only in some states they cannot). Seriously, apart from same-sex marriage which is prohibited only in SOME states of ONE western country gays are pretty much as fucking close to legal equality as it gets.

  • @painkillerzman

"a logical argument is never shameful, even if it's bigoted."

So you're gonna propose a logical argument for bigotry. I can't wait.

    "exept in the U.S."

Um, yeah. Did you bother to either watch the video in question or even read the fucking title and attempt to glean exactly where we are talking about here?

  • @bowlsallbroken "So you're gonna propose a logical argument for bigotry. I can't wait." I am not going to propose a logical argument for bigotry, I said that if an argument is logical it's not shameful.

But this video is about making people accept gays as normal citizens and all I wanted to say all along is that people have the right to consider whoever they want as abnormal citizens. The value of total freedom of speech exceeds the value of homosexuals being viewed as normal citizens.

  • @bowlsallbroken {The legal and social battles for a minorities basic human rights}

The problem is our society promises mutually exclusive benefits. How can you have:

    1) Freedom of speech

    2) Freedom of association

    3) Freedom of religion

    4) Freedom from prejudice, intolerance, offensiveness and bigotry

    All at the same time?

You would have to have angels, not human beings.

  • @mindprism

The important distinction is between, as I specifically itemized, legal and social battles. Legal ones are more cut and dried and can have the force of law brought to bare to produce equal treatment and the first three items on your list.

The 4th has more to do with the evolution of people's attitudes. Historically, as each minority group has gained general social acceptance, it naturally became taboo to suggest a return to the ignorant attitudes and practices of the past.

  • @bowlsallbroken {legal and social battles}

If we can make law against discrimination in the workplace and commerce, what stops us from making discrimination in any form illegal? In short, why isn't every form of publicly displayed racism simply-- "disturbing the peace"?

  • @mindprism

"what stops us from making discrimination in any form illegal?"

Discrimination is a very broad category of concepts. It ranges from protected attitudes and speech all the way to being a motivation for clearly illegal acts. I'm not really certain why they'd all have to be *legally* treated as being the same(?).

"why isn't every form of publicly displayed racism simply-- "disturbing the peace"?"

Why should it be? We need to protect the freedoms you mentioned in your post.

  • @bowlsallbroken {protect the freedoms you mentioned in your post.}

Yes, but my point was that these things fluctuate. For example, the equal housing act and laws forcing businesses to take all customers OVERRODE peoples rights to association based on the - at the time - widespread discrimination that created undue burdens on minorities.

Now, since revoking such laws are not going to suddenly create vast amounts of discrimination, shouldn't racists be given their freedom of association back?

  • @mindprism

Government action is usually, by its nature, arbitrary in scope and expedient as opposed to being based on any firm principles. Is this a good thing or a bad thing? Where is the proper balance between individual property rights and social justice? I ponder this shit all the time and unlike most people I'm not deluded into thinking I have all the answers.

I think the point of this video is that such prejudices should have been solved *socially* by now. I tend to agree.

  • @bowlsallbroken I must say I appreciate your civility, perhaps its just the neighborhood of this channel. The thing is, you are giving me the practical reasons behind the reality, when I am, I guess, asking for the philosophical justifications. And have that discussion.

As a more modern example of freedom of association vs public interest would be -- why couldn't a bar hire and only serve smokers, and circumvent recent laws prohibiting smoking in bars.

  • if "live and let live" isnt good enough anymore that means you want to kill

  • you make me sad, your so full of resentment. In life people have disagreements and sometimes if not often dislike each other and even fight each other, these things while they are not something to seek out or be proud of are a necessary part of life, if u dont like it, find something more to believe in.

  • How many fucking god fearing bible thumper southern piece of shit people do you run into a day?? Where do you live? Do you make it clear to everyone (not just youtube) that you are an atheist?

  • One of my problems with Christianity: It creates a terrible view of homosexuals that can be passed on to their children! A child that could have had a chance to love everyone may hate homosexuals for the rest of his life because of the opinions of his parents.

  • Nah, paulsego doesnt want to be accepted.

HE WANTS TO BE REVERED LIKE THE GOD HE IS!

  • "We must, indeed, all hang together or, most assuredly, we shall all hang separately. "

    --Ben Franklin

  • Some people may think your fighting a losing battle with this one, perhaps against human nature itself, but keep up the good fight. This is exactly the attitude I think the world needs more of.

  • I know this video is 5 months old, but i haven't been coming to youtube regularly for about11 months myself, so this is a new one to me. I am a theistic pagan, but i have been a subscriber of yours for a long time, and i love what you have to say. Though i may not agree with everything you say, you always give me something to think about. And, yes, i give you full props and respect for being an atheist. Some of my closest friends are. So, here's a piece of cake for ya :)

  • Great video, Paul. Glad you're back.

Unfortunately, I just don't ever see this type of acceptance for homosexuals and atheists happening in our lifetime.

Maybe one day, humanity will evolve enough. But not while I'm alive, I'm sure.

  • i think all should be accepted by the law as equals. that being said i don't think that people should be forced to "respect" each other as it isn't honest if it is forced. i hate political correctness. i hate people moaning over hurt feelings due to "hate speech". i am not predjudiced against any group, i am an atheist. i respect your position of disdain for my views, just know that i disdain your views as well.

  • Pent ,,let me tell you I have served in the AF, and am a firefighter, and I had to hide while fighting for YOUR rights while dismissing my own! I had to hide as a firefighter to save people from tragedy that you may know and love, I had to leave my home state to get some rights and to adopt my Children,,I was not allowed to stay in the scouts, etc etc etc ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME???

  • I am fat. I am also gay. I can loose weight. I can't alter my homosexuality.

    That is the main difference.

Also, there is not organized combat towards the rights of fat people. Not in my country at least.

  • ever hear of the show "biggest loser"? fat people do have thier own reality tv show.

  • I think it's important not to put one form of discrimination against another.

It's not fair to discriminate against homosexuals or fat people- period.

If you have issue with the media that's another thing all together. What t the media chooses to represent is irrelevant. If you don't want to be marginalized than you can't trivialize others plight as over done.

We are human beings of equal value regardless of what our sexual orientation is, our skin color, are beliefs or our body size.

  • Holy crap, how did I miss this video for 2 weeks? It doesn't matter anyways. Its good to see you back Paul and great video. I have to agree that the entire idea of groups of people can be separate and equal is flawed.

  • Whoever has objectively verifiable evidence backing their position should have the right to tell another person to get their head out of the fucking clouds, so long as that person is affecting the lives of moral people based on willfully arbitrary, stubborn positions.

  • I want it all to man, for non theists out there. But I don't kid myself, we all know how widespread bigotry is. As you said, the seeds of hate are still there incubating. Sure bigots have to hide it and try to act tactful if they don't want to be called out on their shit, but beneath it all... hate crime and hate speech still happens. Laws can change, the constitution can be upheld, but bigots are just bigots. And they reproduce like rabbits on viagra. I guess I'm just feeling pessimistic today

  • Nah I think Pauls ego is John Belushi resurrected

  • I'm a Brit but I'm right fucked off with people saying Americans are stupid selfish people. Paul you are the living proof America is alive and kicking with intelligent compassionate folk.

More power to your good self.

PS: What do you think about this Glenn Beck, Palin inspired healthcare and Obama =Hitler hysteria?

  • I love this guy.

    TheAmazingAtheist was right.

    This guy's fucking awesome! <3

  • Soooooooooo true my man!!! IF anyone tries to fuck with you on youtube again just let me know...I gotcha back bro!! :-)

    take care

  • WB paul. look forward to more.

  • typical atheist extremests forcing his views on everyone around u can't even prove that atheists have the same level of truth as religion. At least religion has problems to solve and a way 2 fix the world instea dof nothing just a big bag of playdo falling out of your mouth

  • First of all, he is not "typical" at all. The majority of us simply want to live our lives without having to deal with the harassment of theists and without having to worry about religion making its way into the government where it doesn't belong.

Second of all, there are not "levels of truth." Something is either true or it is not true. And that is what it is to be an atheist. To not believe what you believe is "true," particularly because you cannot demonstrate it.

  • moar videos nao

  • I know what happened, you got married didn't you? Congrats if I'm right.

  • BRAVO! It's been a while since your last video...you finally made a new one and it didn't disappoint.

    Great points.

  • Why couldn't you have at least posted a comment on your channel saying that you hadn't died and plan on making videos eventually?

  • miss you dude

  • You're back!

    Made my day.

  • Well it is about damn time :)

  • excellent video. it kept my attention the entire time. good job

  • I know what you mean. in the same vein, I hate the word tolerance, and the frequency with which it is called for to "solve" differences of religion, race, and sexuality. no one wants to be tolerated. they want to be loved.

  • Melting pots always have their chunky, spicy bits that don't stew together with everything else very well. In any forum of ideas, there are going to be disagreeable ones and there is going to be a status quo. Learn to enjoy the turbulent waters my atheist brother. Don't just weather the storm, ride it. Get the joke, laugh like a fat Buddha at how surreal and ridiculous it all is.

  • Welcome to the struggle for mankind's emergence from self-incurred immaturity. We've been going strong for the last 300 years and the fight has only just begun.

Please tighten your seatbelt and hold onto your keyboard, it's gonna be an interesting century.

  • this is the first vid ive seen of yours and i subed good vid man.

  • I understand where you're coming from, but I suspect that you're setting yourself up for continuous disappointment.

Tolerance is sometimes the best we can expect from our fellow man.

  • Oh I'm POSITIVE I'm setting myself up for disappointment. I just can't help but hope for the right thing to happen.

  • I think FanatasicBabblings should care if people accept him because thats the first step of beating ignorence, it sucks because with all of the technological advancements in society humans haven't evolved into acceptence in others sexuality, race, and religions yet. I wonder if humans will ever evolve into a non religious community, or even acceptance to one anothers religious beliefs without practically trying to enforce it.

  • welcome back, look forward to see more vids soon.

  • glad to see you back.

  • NICE BEARD

  • I agree with everything you say, but I believe that after a few generations of "Live and let live" that our decendants wont care anymore, because thats how they were raised. Or thats at least what I hope.

  • welcome back!

is the situation really that bad for atheists in america?

in europe I think it's the other way around, actually.

  • You probably would have called him a commie in the old days.

  • sweet, you're back! and with a great video :)

  • I've dealt with a lot of these sentiments as well, Paul. Feels great to hear you articulate them!

    Another great video! Huzzah!

  • About fucking time :P

  • To put it bluntly, WB PaulsEGO!!!

I think "live and let live" is a step on the way to higher states of moral conduct.

  • nice comeback bitch. You want what everyone wants, to be loved and accepted. OOOhh.. I'm just a human being!! Accept me for who I am!! Shut the fuck up. You earn your place. Nobody really gives a shit anyway. Stop playing the victim.

  • >YEAH lets allow gays to adopt kids and have their kids picked on because they have two dads.

Because clearly the problem here is the gay dads and not the little asshole kids picking on somebody who has two dads. Hey, how about we teach our kids to be decent to others, huh? Nah, too hard. Let's just ban anything different.

  • Start earning yours then asshole. Because it looks to me like you have a long way to go.

  • YEAH lets allow gays to adopt kids and have their kids picked on because they have two dads. That's fucking awesome!!! I wish I had two dad named todd and dave. They'd even kiss me as they dropped me off for school. YEAH thats fucking awesome.

  • Exactly! We should let the taunts of immature schoolchildren be the determining factor as to who can adopt children. I mean, we obviously shouldn't allow obese people to adopt a child, because other kids might pick on that child for having fat parents. Come to think of it, there are a whole bunch of people who should be banned from adopting--stroke victims, mixed-race couples, ugly people--because the adopted children might be teased for it.

    Good thinking.

  • @bigsmatchy You're stupid, kill yourself.

  • @XuyenaCorp hahaha

  • @bigsmatchy

Maybe the first few kids will be mistreated, but in time the shock value will wear off just like with kids of mixed race couples, etc. It will be better for everybody if we move past such petty things as sexual orientation of one's parents. And XuyenaCorp is a fucking retard.

  • @MAchoManRandySavag I agree. If the kid were strongheaded and popular enough it wouldn't be an issue. Kids get picked on regardless and when the kid looks back he might appreciate the experience of having gay parents. Also, I don't know the mindset of kids today. Maybe todays children would be more accepting compared to when I was a kid.

  • You have just spoken what I have thought for a while now, great video very interesting enjoyed this a lot, I hope I to see more videos from you and welcome back.

  • I don't think that what you want is possible. In some ways I don't think I am capable of doing it myself. I will for example always accpet religious people as people and will always think they deserve the same right as everyone else but I will not never accept their values and I will fight against those values. I don't expect them to accept my values either...

  • acc"pet" is not a freudian slip , it's an honest mistake I meant to write "accept"... :)

  • I'll see yours and raise you one: Being an equal member of society isn't good enough for me anymore.

  • Hatred is best friends with ignorance. Great vid :)

  • Sooo true, good vid welcome back 5/5

  • He's ALIVE!

  • I'm young. I'm naive. But I'm an atheist and so far, I really don't see how you can say that atheists aren't seen as equal people. I don't think I've ever seen an atheist being seen as less than human because of their perspective. I don't think it can even be close to the same conversation as homophobia or racism. I see your anger, but I'm not sure I see the opposing force. This isn't to say there isn't one. I'm just hoping for enlightenment, I suppose.

  • Haha I was like AHHH! PAUL! Can't wait to here what you've been up to.

  • "I want to be.." understood.

  • "Truth is not only violated by falsehood; it may be outraged by silence." ~ Henri Frederic Amiel

Same might be said of human decency.

  • mosaic > melting pot

  • we should recognize the negative effect any kind of ignorance has on our societies.

  • You're cute, too bad you're not gay. =)

  • Comment removed

  • Great vid. Very glad to see you back.

  • welcome back big p

  • Paul, you have a way with words. You could be supporting the most heinous shit imaginable but the way you articulate yourself I would be inclined to agree.

  • Otch, I object! I will make a reply video.

  • I just wish we could all get along

good to have you back paul, and rocking a beard too!

  • You say "pretentious douchebag" as if that was a BAD thing......

  • good video...5 stars...equal rights for all

  • good vid....I gotta say as a 49yr old gay man, America is NOt the america I grew up in - thinking it was......its a BIG disappointment that in 2009 we have to Fight for equality? To me the words..Liberty & Justoce for All are just that, words..empty meanlingess words...made to make America sound better then it actually is in reality!

  • Great to see you making videos again.

  • Great vid Paul. Welcome back!

  • Nice! You're back.

  • I am another str8 person for gay EQUAL rights. Most of us live in a land where "all men are equal". The small minority of the right wing christian extremists have been trying to hijack the Constitution for so many decades now and they will stop to no end to impose their filthy theocratic agenda on the rest of civilized society. Above all, it is my duty I feel as an atheist to protect those that are persecuted from religion!! NOT just atheists!! 5 star video and favorited, welcome back bro!!!

  • Well said and welcome back.

  • PaulsEgo makes Youtube worth watching.

  • One of the most articulate vloggers on youtube finally returns.

Paulsego is an amazing vlogger because he is capable of delivering his message without having to cut or read right off of a message. He knows what he wants to say and he says it.

  • Good to see you are still alive big fella.

  • I want it all song by queen = irony

  • i feeling it man. Very good, we should have what we want and what we will work for.

  • Glad to have you back Paul ")

  • You look like Will Ferrell with that beard, paul.

    Mainly from Anchor man.

  • I missed you. )':

  • i have genuine anger in every one of my vids :)

welcome back paul, we missed you...now get to making more videos ;)

  • Yeah Paul!Yeah Paul!Yeah Paul!Yeah Paul!Yeah Paul!Yeah Paul!Yeah Paul!Yeah Paul!Yeah Paul!Yeah Paul!Yeah Paul!

  • great message and we missed you brother :)

i hope you have came back for good :D

  • YES, Paul. Good to see you bro. Fuck yeah.

  • a new house?

  • Welcome back. Kind regards,

  • Welcome back!

  • LONG TIME NO SEE ... good to hear your voice again

  • Whoop whoop, welcome back Paul

  • If people thought they could see atheism, they would be hated just as much as homosexuals.

  • You know, I've been saying this for years. This whole "stay on your side, I'll stay on mine" doesn't work with religious zealots.

Oh, triple thumbs up on the return.

  • Good to have you back, sir!

  • ohmigod thank fuck! glad ur back

  • Thank fucking god you're back. Now I can subscribe to you again!

  • Christianity is a root of hatred and bigotry. Jesus openly advocated hatred and he was against peace. He was also a racist.

  • God I love Paul, totally in a gay way lol

  • Hardcore atheism isnt cool like it was back in the day. People dont give a fuck anymore.

  • LOL awesome hat

  • yayyyyy your back!!

  • Great vid

  • Thank the non-existent Lord for your return!

  • If your going to oppose the "live and let live" meme what do you replase it with or what is your plan to force the population to be accepting of people they dissagree with. Besides you will have just as hard a time convincing atheists to accept theists as you will the inverse. This being the case, I have a hard time seing what your logical conclusion is.

  • I think in this case what "live and let live" is being replaced with is simply a bolder version. One that eliminates the possibility of a group of people that don't "live and let live" to have a clean slate by their own terms....since it is now, them vs. people who respect humanity in general as opposed to a philosophical position.

  • I always thought "live and let die" was a better motto anyways.

  • You're back!!! :D

    Keep posting videos.

  • Bigotry sucks, but institutionalized bigotry is even worse.

  • I with you paul, MLK didn't fight for tolerance

  • Paul you are the shit, when I saw you made a new video I dropped everything to watch your shit

  • good to hear from you again paul and i agree 1000%
