  • Jack White and the Secret Sisters - what a combo ! Can't believe the comments suggesting Cash wouldn't like this. Not so. Always promoted diversity on his show and beyond - in fact that's what made him so great and his final albums such a joy. Anyone who thinks that neither Jack White nor Laura and Lydia have no talent should (in my opinion) dip into their respective repertoires - much broader than this song, in both cases

  • its weird how nowadays managers and producers all seem to have coked and boozed their brains off as their " new brilliant discoveries " all sound the same: arrogant, loud, cold, overproduced, unable to really sing, bombastic, massive, etc - it all ends up sounding like metallica or one of them other useless heavy metal bands - if you call this being " original " i´d rather be PLAIN BORING OLD SCHOOL BACKWARD DUSTROAD

  • just another daily new hype, loud, cold and meaningless. yawn.seen and heard it all before. -these people have no talent.-

  • good example of how to ruin a good song - johnny cash would NOT have played with em - hed kicked them in their bum and made em wash the dishes instead.- not every bombastic overkill destruction of a good song is " creative progressive development ". whatever. thank god I got me some good old versions of this song on cd - the likes you will NEVER hear here.

  • I looked up the other stuff these girls do. They sound better with jack than without him. but then again, isn't everybody :)

  • fuck me running, lol, i agree

  • Fuck me running, this is awesome!

  • That's some good stuff right there.

  • jack white is just the best!!!

  • @thewahwahmanI You can get the 7" from Third Man Records website.

Johnny Cash would approve of this version for sure. Jack White is already turning Nashville on its ear and I can't wait to hear what he does next. Have anyone listen to The Raconteurs, Old Enough with Ricky Skaggs and Ashley Monroe and tell me Jack White ain't country enough for Nashville.

  • oh, my, freaking god

  • @infamoussero JOHNNY CASH IF STILL ALIVE PROBABLY WOULD HAVE PLAYED IT WITH THEM DUMB ASS. IF YOU KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THE MAN YOU WOULD KNOW THAT.

  • Классное оформление пластинки!

  • Our band covers this song....I must say this version caught my attention!!!!

  • I Love Rock 'N' Roll!!!

  • Lydia sounds so much better on the lead.

  • Yeah but Jack on the gitfiddle makes it awesomer. Just saying.

  • this sounds like rasputina but not as good.

  • I saw the secret sisters a few weeks ago at Massey hall they were good

But this type of music is really where they belong !

  • props to 98.3 the pengiun willmington nc your the bomb

  • Wow! More, More, More!!!

  • Who would have known Jack White and the Secret Sisters were like Peanut Butter and Chocolate.

  • Jack White is exactly what the Secret Sisters' music needed!

  • This got played on WFUV (New York) last night, as part of a Secret Sisters feature. How did I not know about this? What a great, GREAT record. I wanna listen to this as often and as loud as possible!

Here's hoping the Secret Sisters go on to a long, fantastic career, and that Jack White continues to make great music for many years to come.

    Nice post. Thanks!

  • Wow... when the heavy guitar started and I remembered the angelic voices of the Secret Sisters I thought this song was not going to work... but then they started singing... and wow!...Very interesting!

  • @MeritCullen It's the genius of Jack White... his touch is all over this version, and it is always unerring. His musical instincts are beyond compare. And he is especially good when working with women. Check out his work with Loretta Lynn and Wanda Jackson.

  • @alcest35 another way 2 die is awesome

  • @Davegibbo90 Oh, and I totally agree... they should definitely make a whole album together. I could listen to this combination forever.

  • @Davegibbo90 I've always like this song when sung by Johnny Cash, but this version really does blow everything else out of the water. Is there anything Jack White can't make better simply by being involved in it? Incredible guitar playing... and the girls are really cool singers. Love this.

  • @alcest35 And I can pretty much guarantee you that Johnny would have LOVED this. He was so supportive of new talent and he would have just had a wonderful time listening to this version. Sometimes covers are better than the originals...for me Johnny's version of HURT was superior to NIN's. My opinion, of course.

  • @msymsed You are so right. Johnny Cash was always very generous to other performers and never hesitated to show his appreciation for their talents and their artistry. I would have loved to see what a collaboration between him and Jack White would have produced, and I know he would have been very supportive of The Secret Sisters. I saw the girls performing live last night and had the chance to tell them how very much I love this version of "Big River".

  • nerver heard of Foghat ?

    Everyone knows Foghat

Foghat is up there with the Beatles

  • @Davegibbo90 Thank you. I'll check that out.

  • ok but this aint country no way

  • Good cover of Cash!

  • Where does one find this album?

  • soo great the new generation is covering the great ones..........

  • i like this. cash version is also good.. nay great. but this is good. JW and the gals letting it hang out. JW is a bit of a Svengali it seems.

  • gotta love jacks paint stripper riffage

  • is it just me or is the stuff coming out from third man the only stuff thats really got soul in the music industry nowadays?

  • cool man

  • Avoided listening to this for ages, now wish I hadn't. Can't be denied that Johnny's is a classic.

  • @BANGKOKJUNGLE

normally i don't comment on comments but you are such a dweeb i will...

That was Jimi HENDRIX not Jimmy PAGE I was talking about. Your reading works as good as your listening, Love Jimmy Page, the master musician - but Jack White is more like Hendrix - on fire !!! Anyway my opinion.

  • match made in heaven, jack white and the secret sisters, dosn't get much better, i live in glasgow scotland anyone know where i can buy the cd songs of the south with pictured here. cool.

  • @astar334

Hey......ever heard of The Rolling Stones? Cream? The Black Keys? Beck? The Grateful Dead? Foghat? Led Zeppelin? The Beatles? Carl Perkins?

Add up the songs they covered ....It's part of actually being a musician....You shallow-as-a-kiddie-pool wannabe music snobs crack me up....

  • @astar334 you would buy a baby prostitute if you knew no one would find out. you sick fucking dog.

  • @astar334

Uh... YouTube is free, you know. And, this is no excuse, but Jack doesn't just cover songs, he re-invents the motherfuckers. 90% of the time, the song takes on a totally different interpretation, you know. Therefore, I am not ashamed.

  • Only available from the magazine or as a 7" single at Third Man Recs. Link is at their site under Gramophone. Scroll down to the link. They rock, and someone finally got this song right. Thanks, Jack!

  • 2nd guitar solo just smashes the s**t outta me!

  • heard this song on the radio and rocked out in the shop! how did you get this song i cant find the CD anywere?

  • love this song. thanks

  • there's a certain finesse to Jack White's playing, any guitar player who's worth a damn would kill for his intensity.

  • ha ha - check out BANGKOKJUNGLE 's and his guitar lesson and I think it becomes obvious why ,,, well why he doesn't get it.

Jimi Hendrix would dig Jack White fer sure - wow !!!

  • yeah man, how did you get this cd, or lp?

  • Just heard this on the radio. Great rendition. Love them harmonies.

  • did jack play the drums as well? in this?

  • Shockingly good! I said it all along, the best 3 living guitarist (r&b, rock, blues) is Jimmy Page, John Fruciante and Jack White. But Dickie Betts is so up there also!!!!

  • @nyczumazooma I never heard anything so ridiculous in my puff! Jack White is a total wannabe 'guitar player' not even in the top 50,000 guitarists on the planet. You're 12 right?

  • @BANGKOKJUNGLE and you're listening because...?

  • @BANGKOKJUNGLE - so if Jimmy Page thinks Jack is in his caliber then Jimmy must also not be in that same top 50,000? I don't k now if Jack's style is right for these ladies however Jack is carving a niche for himself that any artist would envy

  • @BANGKOKJUNGLE Always some lippy little bitch smackin' on Jack.

Where's your demo? Give us a video showing all us 12 year-olds how to play some lead guitar......We're waiting....

  • @DarumaXIV bam!
