  • 1 person eats mudpuppys.

  • Do u have a reptile store near you because I just went and I saw it the mud puppy or go online and buy it

  • I've gotta ask, where did you get something like that? I have no idea where those things are sold. I've only seen Axoltyls for sale

  • lol awesome vid ...had a good laugh

  • Mudkip?

  • @shirokun002 he was based on a mudpuppy, you are right.

  • were to find in maryland near dc

  • Drained my friends well in southern British Columbia a few years back and found a dozen of these puppies at the bottom. They were between 20 and 40 cm in length. When I picked them up to remove them, they secreted a thick milky substance through the skin on their back. The milk did not burn or hurt me in any way, but I imagine it makes them unpalatable to their enemies, namely heron and kingfishers.

  • where do you get them? and i saw your comment on the tiger salamander larvae, can you still buy those too.

    thanks a lot

  • So cool!

    I want one :-)

  • some good info in this video, my videos also have alot of good stuff to help people

  • I know a guy who caught either a mudpuppy or a hellbender in, believe it or not, the Stillwater River near Dayton Ohio. Can't imagine how it happened to be there. it's not their normal range. Also I caught one in a tiny stream in eastern Kentucky once.

  • lol that made me jump at the beginning

  • @leannputman100

i got mine at a pet store for 10 dollars and its called a tiger salamander i found out and the guy just told me it was a mudpuppy cuz thats what he calls them

  • dang that thing is big

  • That looks like an axolotl.

  • haha i jumped great video

  • Really like the way you put up the species names at the end.

I just found out we have these around here, going to collect some.

  • a real mudpuppy has a set of lungs and gills both. kind of like, a land fish or sea lizard. i live in the south and they are very very common around ponds and streams and lakes.

  • is sand better them to rest on?

  • Where do you get these? I am looking to get one.... located in New York, if you ot anyone knows please let me know. I heard that if you keep them in cold deep water they will not loose their gills, that true?

  • Mudkips

  • love the music, goes so well.

these things are so full of personality!

  • how big is your tank?

  • How did u get ur worms so clean, i have to clean my tank every time i feed him bc of the dirt they are covered with and mine won't eat. I study reptiles and Amphibions and i can't figure out how i should set the tank up and what is a good set of food, they eat small crayfish, worms, feeder fish and dead stuff on the bottom of lakes and streams. send me a message if u got any tips and ideas

  • Very nice video, I did not realize they had such stealth! My cousin and I used to observe these in the crick in southern ontario Canada in the early 80's. They have since disappeared in most of those streams sadly. Humans suck sometimes.

  • can they swim?or they just walk underwater?

  • i think they just look like muddy puppies

  • they look like axolotls :P i have 3 axolotls but this thing is really long haha its snout is long too

  • @xxpanicwithmexx everyone says that

  • He's the ultimate predator. First he lets others get the impression of him being completely harmless and then he swallows them as a whole. .·)

  • Fuck u ur tha asshole so stfu

  • wtf is wrong wit ur hillbilly ass???

  • I saw one in fort erie.

    they're so cool!!

  • I love mudpuppies. They're so cute! Bummer I can't have a fish tank in my small house and with cats. Seeing one of these puppies in motion just makes me love them more. I've always loved lizards, snakes, and salamanders, so these little guys and their flappy gills just won me over the instant I found out about them. I think the guys who made up the name were snorting something, but it's a cute name. Mudpuppy.

  • i have a mudpuppy and its soo cool and it like kills the stuff i put in side first before they eat it. XD

    Nice vid :) btw

i want some axolotls but dont know where to get them.

  • i caught on out of salt creek then trayed to keep it as a pet but it would not eat so i siad fuckit and let it go

  • Cool mudpup. Friend of mine caught one out of Walnut Creek, Lake Erie. (PA) We thought it was a catfish, until the legs poked out thru the net. Scared the crap out of my buddy. Nothing scary, unless you're a minnow... Or a stoned fisherman

  • Awh, I love mudpuppies! AWesome Vid!

  • the first worm attack scared the SHIT out of me!!!!!!!!!!!!! good vid lol

  • Back in the day when I got mine you could get them at Wal-mart for like 8 bucks. I used to enjoy mine growing up.. until the thing turned into a salamander and had to be taken out of the water.. it also at all my other fish..

  • What you got from Wal-mart was a tiger salamander larvae (Ambystoma species), which are often sold under the name mudpuppy. This is a very different species, which has no terrestrial phase and will never leave the water.

  • @PeteHoban so... are they more like axolotls?

  • @PeteHoban dude i drained our small pond today like we do every year and found these things that look like a tadpole but hae a salamander body gills and a tadpole like tail and it had a mouth and stuff buy could walk around what was it?

  • didn't know you couled have one as a pet.. cool :D 5 of 5

  • swampert

  • wtf????

  • what temp do u keep the water for one of those

  • They prefer it cool to cold. I don't monitor the temperature unless it's a particularly warm day.

  • it's so cute! i had to dissect one in class... i've only seen them dead up until this point haha

  • Has anyone seen the "In search of the Hellbender" video on here? It shows these huge salamanders called hellbenders... maybe this is actually one of those...?

  • holy shit thats a big mudpuppy is that a normal mudpuppy size? i have 2 axolotls

  • I'd say it's a normal size

  • @PeteHoban Oh, you should check out the chinese giant salamanders, they look just like this but are huge, I am talking like feet long, not inches. They get big enough that when they bite people they have been known to skin a persons arm or leg.

  • what a gorgeous mudpuppy- shes very elegant and pretty! thx for sharing this video, it actually made me fall in love with them. i believe its hard to get them, but i would love to own one myself. <3

what temperature is the water you keep her in?

  • did you buy it or catch it

  • nice choie of music, dance dance dance awesme, makes me want cookies. i want one of those as a pet man!!!

  • Whats the name of the petstore where u got her?

    ever since i was 5 i wanted one :)

  • I understand your desire, but my petstore only had this one and hasn't had another since. I think some people may get them from biological supply stores, you'd have to look around, or try to catch one yourself. Good luck to you.

  • that is badass all we can get in australia is shitass axolotls

  • what is the life expectancy on the mud puppies?

  • I don't really know off hand, but if I had to guess it would be 10-20 yrs.

  • I thought they need cold running water, do you keep your unheated? Looks like hes doing graet

  • He lives in the basement, so the temperature is always pretty cool accept for a few rare days.

  • But it does seem to like the filter on high, so when I upgrade the set up in the near future I may invest in setting up a stronger current.

  • is there much difference between mudpuppys and axolotls?

  • They're pretty similar in terms of care. Mudpuppies can handle a little bit more flow in the water without stressing. Mudpuppies must have pretty cool water, but axolotls like it cool, too. Personality-wise I see a big difference. My mudpuppy doesn't really do much but hide all day and is quite shy. My axolotl is more curious and entertaining to watch.

  • cool thanks

  • i have one

  • I've got a few that are a couple years old but their nowhere near that big! They do feed on worms though. Did you catch her in the wild? How big was she is so? And how long did it take for her to reach this size?

  • I bought her at a store when she was about 9 inches. She's grown about 1 inch/year

  • Holy shit!!

  • I take it back...I measured him tonight and he's now 1 ft

  • ...her...she's

  • Great video Pete !

The mudpuppy is an amazing looking creature. How long is he/she?

  • Thanks. She is about eleven inches or twenty-eight centimeters.
