time out iz bout who's in taking time out, i'm tall but i dont play ball unless i'm spying outa space associated with some leagues so if any of me plays sports it's about spying because I'm a colonist not a federation, good thing we got ultra fleers
Yeah in the documentary, Fab Five, it clearly shows one of the reserves telling him to call a timeout, so in the heat of the moment he say that and just automatically called it, i think its kinda retarded though that its automatically a technical if they dont have any left, the refs should just like give a signal or something that shows they dont have any timeouts left, rather than screw an entire game
@Airman32292 it cant work like that. when you signal a timeout without having any it confuses all of the players who witness it and can potentially give an unfair advantage to either team whether it be intentional or not.
@Dismal626 i dont think so cause you see it a lot where the coaches or the players call timeouts and refs seem to not hear them, so they start just screaming "timeout, timeout" you know and it never seems to affect the players, players are molded to not stop play unless the whistles blown, so if the refs dont blow the whistle no ones gonna stop playing
@Airman32292 I would have to disagree with you, mainly because it wouldn't be fair to the opposition. The defenders have enough on their plate as is, and any TO all could cause a brief disruption of defense. There are only 5 timeouts in the game; I can count that high, and I'm willing to bet that even Derrick Rose can, too.
@aspectra yeah you can say its easy to remember youve used five, but in the heat of the moment if your in that situation you dont have time to think, you just react and call a time out, and also in clutch moments like that players really dont get distracted by timeouts, you see it in an close game down the stretch, even when a timeout is called they dont stop until the whistle is blown, maybe do something like they do with delay of game just a warning
@Airman32292 At a high level of competition it is definitely inexcusable. If it was heat of the moment like you say, a lot more players would have pulled a Webber over the years. Some have, but none in games of such magnitude. Just signaling for a TO has the potential to cause brief confusion. Therefore, this rule is a fair one. You may be a biased Michigan fan, and I know this was a tough one to swallow, but the rule is 100% fair.
@aspectra I'm actually not a michigan fan, and i was born a year after this game took place so its not that, i just find the ruling completely ridiculous and it possible changed the outcome of that game
@ozanottoman In the U.S. at the amateur level, in the AAU and professional level in the NBA both coaches and players can call time-out. In FIBA and the IBL, only coaches can call time-out.
@Bahwhe99 What's sad is that Webber walked in full view of the referee and the referee chose not to call it. I know this because he admitted that "he just couldn't do that to the kid." Apparently the referee had no similar problem screwing Carolina's "kids." By the way, Webber may have been reacting to someone on the Michigan bench calling for a timeout (as seen in some clips of this moment). I think it was reserve Robert Talley.
