@devientrazz can you help me|? I am doing a show for my students representing Alaska. I need to know what song would be best for li'l children to dance at and I want to know what your national dress is please.
My Grandfather and Grandmother both lived in Alaska in 1943 to 1952 where my grandfather worked on the Alaska Railroad. They came back to the lower 48 in 1952 before Alaska became our 49th state...they moved back to New York State to be closer to family and do to my grandmother getting home sick so they moved back. I love the Alaska state song it's diffrent from other states and it's very cool to listen to, I can help to sing along.
Greetings from Anchorage, the city that holds 60 percent of the stats population. But it dosent mater ware u live i, this state, every inch of it is beautiful and majestic.
I salute u Benny Benson for capturing every inch of this sates beauty in this wonderful song.
Your video has been embedded on classbrain's webpage about the Alaska state song in the state reports section. Thank you for uploading this beautiful rendition!
It all depends on how it is performed. Nevada's hymn could be played instrumentally by a band in a slow and dignified manner and sound very respectable, as could California's song. Oregon has a more solemn anthem like Alaska's, but it is rarely used because it isn't PC ("conquered and held by free men"). As for Idaho, they'll just need to write a new one.
Something just occured to me. In Alaska, the Pole Star must seem to be almost directly over head. So, it must not be all too easy to use it to find your way. You would need to be familiar w/ the other constellations & their positions at any given time to find your way.
Eight stars of gold on a field of blue — Alaska's flag. May it mean to you The blue of the sea, the evening sky, The mountain lakes, and the flow'rs nearby; The gold of the early sourdough's dreams, The precious gold of the hills and streams; The brilliant stars in the northern sky, The "Bear," the "Dipper," and, shining high, The great North Star with its steady light, O'er land and sea a beacon bright. Alaska's flag — to Alaskans dear, The simple flag of a last frontier.
lol. i live in anchorage. just to warn you it was -22 the other day. haha. its a beautiful place though, you will enjoy all of hte wonderful scenery and wild life around every corner
Is is so nice to have a dignified state song like this one. It sums up the history and beauty of Alaska without being dated or corny like so many other state songs and anthems. My state's song, "Oregon, my Oregon," has a stately, anthem-like melody (if played slow enough), but it is rarely sung because it is not politically correct to sing "conquered and held by free men" anymore.

Although we have a beautiful state anthem, the grim reality is that Alaska is a rural, god-forsaken penal colony. Nine months of winter, three months of spring.
Barely a dozen colleges in the entire state; thus, the majority of inhabitants are uneducated and ignorant hicks. The most intelligent Alaskans leave the state after high school and never return. Our newspapers call this "the brain drain."

Benny Benson is buried here in Kodiak. The graveyard funny enough is behind the hospital. I get a kick out of that...like "just dump them out back!"

Why couldn't someone have written something like this for Nevada?
This is such an awesome hymn, by comparison, Nevada's hokey little song sounds like it was written by some old bat to entertain people at a picnic.
Oh wait.... it was.
TBustah 2 years ago
Connecticut's song is Yankee Doodle.
Be thankful for hokey songs. Lol.

@VictorLepanto If necessary to use the stars to navigate, we use the end of Ursa Major. The stars line up with Polaris and point the way north.
