There is a HUGE difference between prolonging life and prolonging the dying process.

Once a patient is terminal, once the dying process has begun, if they are suffering, what is wrong with shortening the dying process?

The patient is not committing suicide but shortening their death.

If that same patient could be cured & live a normal life for longer I am sure that option would be readily grasped, in that case it would be prolonging their life.

Liynkx, is it bigoted to consider religious organizations bigoted? Truly, American law cannot endorse a specific religion but allows folks to vote using their philosophical views. For instance, Catholicism teaches a philosophy that human life is precious so the ill must always be given food and water. Are they right? Open question. Is it legitimate to think that way? It seems so. Im a scientist, I hope advances will someday end suffering from cancer altogether, but intolerance is depressing.

technically the words themselves so not have to appear in scripture for thier meaning to be there. God says in the fifth commandment not to kill, now wether this should be used in an argument against assisted suicide is up for debate, my point is that "Reverend Donald Miller" says that you find anything in scriptures about it, which is very wrong. I'm not saying that you have to follow what the scriptures say, I'm just pointing out that they do say it.

Thou shall not kill is actually "interpreted" in to many ways. It is now, many have interpreted and written some bibles as "thou shall not murder." because we kill everyday, because it doesn't specify humans. We kill everything from plants and animals etc. So, if we're going to use the word kill, then they don't have a strong argument, because it's almost impossible to not kill anything.
