Just bought one, IDENTICLE and it was $359.00, and I bought it cause the gibson sg frets were too high compared too it, sound wise I couldnt tell the difference and I actually like the headstock design on the epi is nicer looking, I actually like the epi better than the Gibson sg, GO FIGURE!!! I didn't have the funds to commit to a new Epiphone SG, and I ended up buying an almost identical secondhand Vintage VS6, [yes, in cherry red] which I'm highly pleased with. I nearly bought a used SG310, in black, with uncovered humbuckers, but the VS6 is good enough for me.

That's a sweet guitar you have there. Enjoy it for many years.

for the simple facts they are pro quality and they are a real sg's. the 2010 modals are simply brilliant!

and the best. the 2010 modal's have highend hardware/electronics and A+ CRAFTMANSHIP!

and the great part about this is gibson will tell you the same thing. i would most certainly buy and

play a 2010 modal epiphone 1962 standard and a 66 sg's just as fast even faster than a gibson sg.

I have the same guitar - bought about 15 years ago. Only difference is, it says 'Gibson' on the headstock plate whereas yours says 'SG'. It's still an Epiphone though...

Anyway, great guitar for the money. Lovely, smooth action - better than the Flying V in my humble opinion.

@Chchchaz you pay for the gibson name, and if you can afford it there's no reason to choose the epi over the gibson. The tone is very similar but thats where the similarities end. The feel of the two is completely different. You should go into a store and try them both out.

I have pretty powerful pickups now, so the clean tone is not the best, but the guitar totally rocks when distorted. It nails rock, hard rock, metal, punk etc.

to the Gibson sg's thats why more and more pro guitarist are playing the G-400 SG

for the simple fact that they are sooo close to the Gibson sg. also when the epiphone G-400 SG came out some years back it would have cost you $700 +

since then the prices have been droped. every guitar company has droped there prices on most of there guitars.

@taraldsvik Epiphone is owned by Gibson, so they make their guitars VERY similar to Gibson's specs. Gibson, however, has had some quality control issues recently, so with them (or any guitar, to be honest) I would recommend trying the one you'll be buying.
