hey i have the same one watch out because the front black piece of plastic is a piece of shit and will crack and fall apart. i ended up just taking the stupid hood off and using it to cover the seat.
Found it at the dump??.....Is it a dump for rich people or stupid people to discard their stuff? Thats a right find, there's nowt like that at the dumps here in the UK!
you said some one put it on a tip instead of fixing it, gee wiz man! it looks new! glad there is some one how knows how to look after these machines (maintain them!)
damn next time you get a engine like that let me know im in need of one for my s92 john deere it has a 11hp briggs with no compression and i need a sump for a 12hp I/C briggs keep up the good work
Wow man!!!....its amazing what a little tlc and a new starter will do even to a tractor thats essentially been taken to a dump like that. Who'd of thought that. Cool deal!!! :)
wow that was seriously not expexting that but i liked it haha very good job i am very appualed that, that even happend haah but it was a very nice touch
I have 2 of those- a black version and a red version- the red one had the exact same 14.5HP briggs- the black had a 16 teccy.
The red one became my modded murray with an improved 18.5HP twin and its fast with pulley changes , the black one however is still engineless - i use it to test fire engines im working on for now- i was gonna say those front ends are pretty rare NOT broken- my red ones was- the black ones is like mint.
You would never believe how many immovable objects we have driven this tractor's front end into, this is the toughest plastic grille on a lawn tractor I've ever seen. Kudos to Murray for that one. Even after I hit that rock, I looked at the grille, and there wasn't even a scratch! After this vid I put on a 12hp B&S, and unbent the brackets the hood attaches to, and if you looked at the hood now, you would never know I hit anything, looks like new!
Really? The front grille on my red murray was cracked nearly all the way to the headlights- tried epoxing it - didnt work. I saved the hood and hedlight lenses , tossed the grille tho.
Cant say the same for the 90's MTD's plastic grilles- they always break- where the support arms are and at the bottom.
So whats the plans for it? Gonna fix and sell it or just use it to buzz around the yard?
Yeah this grille is seriously the best plastic grille I've seen. It's almost like a shock absorber! I know what you're talking about with the older MTD plastic grilles, I broke one just opening the hood. I too like the shift-on-the-go on this Murray, so I think I'll keep it around just to use here now that it has it's "new" 12hp. I thought of fixing it up and selling it, but it's in too rough a shape to get any real money, and with Murray gone, people are uneasy about buying used ones.
Not me- ill buy any decent priced murray, dynamark- whatever- i like me a challange of fixing em. I can still get murray and dynamark parts at my local tractor parts place around the corner.
Yeah the shift on the go is why i used mine for a mod- hit the gas and shift- no clutching- someday ill probably put the black on back together - ill probably have to mod a MTD to fit it tho.
Yeah, you probably notice I have a lot of tractors from defunct companies too, lol. But average Harry Homeowner, he's nervous buying a tractor from a defunct company he may not be able to get parts for. I know B&S supposedly has parts and support for Murrays, but I went through hell trying to get a part for a 5 year old Murray snow blower, and even a dealer said that only some parts are available through B&S and availability is limited. (basically sounds like what they have left might be it)
The average harry homeowner actually dont do squat with thier stuff surprisingly- spend that much on something new and just let it fall apart- a throwaway society. 90% of the tractors i have were totally maintence neglected, heck half them had only a few ounces of dirty oil in the sumps- not to mention why the majority of them have deck issues- noone ever keeps em clean and they rot out.
I herd murray was making new tractors again- thru B&S- altho ive never seen one yet.
I heard the rumors about B&S making tractors, havent seen it yet, but I have seen the B&S 'Brute' mowers at Wal Mart. Wonder if they're of a Murray design. I'll tell you one thing; Murray new how to paint a deck! (The ones that are painted red at least) I almost NEVER see rusted out Murray decks on lawn tractors. The tractors may look like hell but the decks shine like new and have no rust every time. I dont know what kind of paint process they used but NO ONE seems to be able to do a better job
LOL- i had a bad one- off my modded murray- thing looked like metal swiss cheese- i stripped the deck and junked it - then again the mod murray had sat outside for years apparently, the upper part of the motor was filled with rusty water, just like my 86GTII.
lol I got the SAME EXACT mower under my porch. I swapped the axle onto an older better looking murray and am gonna part out he rest of this one. the transaxle wont shift...but the gears are good and they are going in another trans. the motors good too. its gonna get sold. btw...how much did yall get for the 14.5 when you sold it?
What would be so funny is if that mower had kept on going through the woods. Say bye bye to that mower :L
That's a great engine, it even seems to idle properly, not like the newer ones that miss a beat every so often to meet emission standards. My rally idles slightly lower than that, I was goign to set it lower but the plug might foul or something.
