Flew united once..(2006)......in Charlotte...there was luggage laying on the ground in the loading areas and those guys on the little carts were just running over it....our whole plane witnessed it.....there were even a few suitcases out by the runway.....blew our minds and have NEVER flown United again.

For any musicians out there who might find themselves in this situation in the near future, check out the response Taylor Guitars posted - they say that you actually CAN take a guitar on as a carry-on and a lot of TSA employees don't know that! You can download the actual rules on their website. Otherwise, get yourself a proper flight case if you want to check your guitar - many musicians have told me this is the only way to go.
