i think Big Brown lost due to the heat and having his shoe stepped on and almost coming off and kent not going to the lead so it was a number of things.
Follow the facts and there is EVERY reason for BB to "suddenly go that bad". 1/4 crack 2 wks before a 1 1/2 mile race on a notoriously deep track. An abscess that did not respond to the first weeks worth of treatment, Patching the crack was put off 5 times to allow the hoof to drain, he missed exersize jogs, he missed workouts....how can you think he would be on top of his game??? Read the DRF daily, read Bloodhorse daily, read thoroughbred times daily.
you can see that the trainer (or so i think that's him) immediately started to trot him around when the saddle was off, trying to see if he was at all favoring his leg. he wasn't.
what i strongly believe what happened is that at some part during the race (you can't see it in the video though), big brown wanted to go, he was ready to take off, but he got boxed, and lost his pace. so instead of pushing him, the jockey just took him out of the race. very smart move.
What happened, is that the jockey, who has a sick kid at the time, was paid by the betting kings to have Big Brown lose.

Yeah Accually When They Played Back The Tape It Almost Looks Like He Went To Close To The Other Horses Hindquarters And Might Have Tapped His Hoof!

it wasn't his hoof.
