Most English language Scopitones were filmed in or around the Los Angeles area, and people who live there (like me) often comment on how alot of the neighborhoods have gone downhill over the last 40 years. This clip proves that there were some areas just east of Downtown that looked pretty rundown even back in the mid 60s. Nice catchy tune though.
This is really a cute one! It would be interesting to know what some of these Scopitone celebs now think of these performances "looking back"! In spite of some silliness, Vikki still looks like she's having a blast! Does anyone think those two dressed-alike dancing girls in the background look like Laverne & Shirley from a distance? :-)
I would have loved to have seen Vikki's face when she saw where this video would be shot. Of course, she may have already been in shock after reading the lyrics of the song.
Thanks for posting this awesome trivia video on Miss Carr. She's one of my favorites and I just learned here that this was nomonated for a Grammy...that a girl Vikki! We are so proud of you Vikki.
Grammy nominated song now released-- The Ultimate Collection on EMI UK three CD box set plus it's Number 1 on CD Universe Top Sellers for Latin, Easy Listening, Pop and Contemporary Blues November 19, 2006
I remember when she used to perform on the old Tonight Show with Johnny Carson she would shed tears when she finished her ballads---he was nuts about her.
A very pleasant surprise--I've never heard Vicki Carr do anything but ballads--and the song (by Rodgers and Hart), is one of the wittiest ever written . . .
Whether she can dance or not is unimportant. The important thing is that Ms. Carr is one of the greatest interpreters of song. Very few artists can claim to have such a diverse catalog ranging from blues to country to rock and roll to folk music to big band to mariachi to contemporary pop in English, Spanish, and even in such languages as Portuguese, Italian, and French! And to think all that talent came from mi tierra...El Paso / Cd. Juarez! Arriba Vikki Carr! Arriba El Paso! Arriba Cd. Juarez!
Of course Vikki dances but this is a mid 1960's video
that was directed wonderfully. In the late 1970's
concert dates, Vikki traveled with a dance group named
"Vikki Carr and the Company She Keeps" and had a whole disco portion of the show...Last Dance, Disco Queen, and others, Vikki also danced with her AC hit "Wind Me Up" with hat and cane and very hot costume....the audiences loved it! Vikki won many awards from her ballroom dancing skills. Take care lizawithap!
Hello I know she dances. I was just talking about this video clip. I've seen her dance before. I was not trying to be mean. My mom is actually a close friend of Vikki.
I love it! What a cool way to tie this song into a "West Side Story" twist. Thank goodness this song is finally going to available on CD! Now, hmmm...could we also have a DVD of some of Vikki's video performances? She's such a powerful performer!
I love talented people who know how to kid around--Vikki's hilarious here! And the nod to West Side Story is pretty funny, too.

Awful location for a video shoot -- was the sewage treatment plant booked already?

Yes. I think the garbage dump was available, though, but the lighting was too good so they had to settle for the junkyard.

I saw her at a McCain rally in Las Cruces NM, she sang "it must be him." hmm...

A Grammy nominated song from 1965....a true trivia piece, Vikki's first music video. And the upcoming
"Ultimate Collection" 3 Cd set from EMI will feature
this Bob Florence arrangement too! Plus Italian tunes and many other goodies for her fans!
