Military bases must be politically neutral. That is why protests of any kind on base are not allowed.
For example the SOA goes right up to the gate and no further. That is why you only have 4 out of the many the protested this weekend that got arrested.

Generally, a person commits the crime of "criminal trespass" when he or she enters or remains on another's property without the owner's consent. The property in question could be a house, apartment, office building, or sometimes even an automobile, aircraft or country.
Fort Benning is an open post. 3 days a year they close it down because of a protest that happens at the gates. You or I would be allowed to walk right where these people walked no problem. Just as long as we were not wearing a shirt that might make it look like we're about to protest. There's just something wrong with that. And no offense, if you can't see that logically, you should check yourself too.

Even if they would have made it past the white line, they wouldn't have been allowed to enter the installation through the ACP without obtaining a pass substantiated with a purpose for being there. You don't have a RIGHT to enter any military installation.
As a disabled american vet I know the difference between an open and closed post. Growing up half a mile from a Navy Base I know all about open and closed parts of bases. Prior to 911 there was NO ACP and after that there was an unmanned shack for quite some time. The open part of the base gets shut down with 3 fences (2 the town of Columbus, GA has to add to their millrate I've heard) placed just for the weekend. That is not the biggest hunk of fascist bullcrap, I've ever dealt with but close
Well I can't speak for every base, but I know that here at Campbell, where I was born and raised and unfortunately am stationed (who the hell wants to be stationed where you're from, noone would swith at AIT), but it has NEVER been open. Way back before 9/11, there has always been guards at the gate. It used to be the MP's. Now it's Coastal Security or whoever they are. The gates are only open at certain times with only Gates 4,7 and 10 staying open always.
The MP's would salute you in, but you had to have a decal. And whenever an officer would come in they would yell, "Air Assault". Now from what I'm told, compared to other bases, Campbell is extremely strict and very by the book. It's all I've ever known so I can't say. When I went down to visit some fam in Benning, Polk, Gordon and Stewart though, I was very surprised that all you had to do was show your license to get on.
Here at Campbell if you don't have Military ID, you can't get on unless you have a pass stating for how long you need it, the building you're going to and in some cases why. Here it's100% ID check, everyone in the vehicle must show one unless under a certain age (can't recall). When I was there, only the driver had to show ID. I like the rules here and the "strictness" of everything.
And I have never, ever seen an unmanned gate here.

I was in the 988th Military Police Co. and stationed at Ft. Benning in the mid 1980s. Those former soldiers DO KNOW that anyone CANNOT simply come on to a Military base because they feel like it. People, as far as these arrests go, the IVAW are deliberately misrepresenting their arrests to the general public as violating their rights. Since the 1950s ANYONE can be detained and searched and their presence on a Federal military reservation, such as Ft. Benning, can be questioned.*
*The U.S. Army takes the position that crossing the line is a violation of the federal law of trespassing onto a military reservation in violation of 18 USC 1382. The federal crime of trespass on a military reservation is a petty misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment of up to six months in jail and/or a fine of up to $5,000.

Just because you were enlisted for the benefits and ended up going on a deployment because of it (I bet none of you were in combat units), doesn't mean you should get special privileges. You'll be treated the same as other protesters. You cannot protest on federal grounds. The law will not be bent for you. I can respect a disagreement against invading Iraq but groups like IVAW seem to be making statements on what is going on in Iraq that are not true. Some of them I can say from my own experiences there.

Military bases must be politically neutral. That is why protests of any kind on base are not allowed.

Fort Benning is an open post. 3 days a year they close it down because of a protest that happens at the gates. You or I would be allowed to walk right where these people walked no problem. Even if they would have made it past the white line, they wouldn't have been allowed to enter the installation through the ACP without obtaining a pass substantiated with a purpose for being there. You don't have a RIGHT to enter any military installation.

As a disabled american vet I know the difference between an open and closed post. Growing up half a mile from a Navy Base I know all about open and closed parts of bases. Prior to 911 there was NO ACP and after that there was an unmanned shack for quite some time. The open part of the base gets shut down with 3 fences (2 the town of Columbus, GA has to add to their millrate I've heard) placed just for the weekend. That is not the biggest hunk of fascist bullcrap, I've ever dealt with but close

Well I can't speak for every base, but I know that here at Campbell, where I was born and raised and unfortunately am stationed (who the hell wants to be stationed where you're from, noone would swith at AIT), but it has NEVER been open. Way back before 9/11, there has always been guards at the gate. It used to be the MP's. Now it's Coastal Security or whoever they are. The gates are only open at certain times with only Gates 4,7 and 10 staying open always.

The MP's would salute you in, but you had to have a decal. And whenever an officer would come in they would yell, "Air Assault". Now from what I'm told, compared to other bases, Campbell is extremely strict and very by the book. It's all I've ever known so I can't say. When I went down to visit some fam in Benning, Polk, Gordon and Stewart though, I was very surprised that all you had to do was show your license to get on.

Here at Campbell if you don't have Military ID, you can't get on unless you have a pass stating for how long you need it, the building you're going to and in some cases why. Here it's100% ID check, everyone in the vehicle must show one unless under a certain age (can't recall). When I was there, only the driver had to show ID. I like the rules here and the "strictness" of everything.
And I have never, ever seen an unmanned gate here.

Actually, there are plenty of Arabs in Israel. Some are Arabs Jews and some are Arab Muslims. Israel has proven to be very tolerant of Arab Muslims and doesn't get the credit it deserves for that. The Gaza Strip is part of the Palestinian territories and is not part of Israel. Israel invaded to shut down Hamas attacks. It's sickening that many countries around the world (including the EU) criticize Israel for defending itself.

I am retired Army, now disabled 100% from Iraq, and I can tell you this, THE VA SUCKS...
I am also prior Army, recruiter, M1A2 Tanks, and I can tell you this first hand.
The Va system will treat you like you are trash, and yes, there are some very good and caring clinicians at the Va but again, it is not them, it the System.

I was in the 988th Military Police Co. and stationed at Ft. Benning in the mid 1980s. Those former soldiers DO KNOW that anyone CANNOT simply come on to a Military base because they feel like it. People, as far as these arrests go, the IVAW are deliberately misrepresenting their arrests to the general public as violating their rights. Since the 1950s ANYONE can be detained and searched and their presence on a Federal military reservation, such as Ft. Benning, can be questioned.*

Ummm...first and foremost there were like three cars that zoomed right past the white line...did they get checked for before they could pass. #2 I live near Ft. Stewart military base and I can easily pass through the checkpoint...line without being arrested. Like the young man said..they are afraid...they are afraid of the few that speak peace and the truth.
