This looks kinda scary than the other videos i've seen because people usually don't drive so fast on narrow tracks, like 1 wrong move and your car is finished.
Are you kidding me! I went to this race and than saw the replay on ESPN a couple of days later. "In the car ohh yeah. Take us for a ride Hurley." Ive remembered him saying that back than on TV it's always stuck with me. IMSA was so fucking awesome back than man those were great times. I wonder if they still sell On Track magazine. Thanks for the memories. Much love to you...
The comments are so funny "the audi is way faster than any american crap that was racing there lollll" The RED car in front is a Nissan 300, not what i would call american...

audi was very good at gaining an unfair advantage with 4wd, I saw these cars in competition , they did things the other cars could not do , not so much with their power but with the handling that the 4wd gave them.
Nope, the MKV GTI and GLI have a 2.0 turbo 4 cylinder which is basically an evolution of the 1.8T found in the MKIV. The 2.5L nonturbo 5 cyl in the MKV Golf and Jetta is basically a brand new engine, unfortunately not related to this monster from the '80s
early 2.0 TFSI turbo (200KW) is direct injected engine based on legendary engine block (EA827) from 1972 and evolution introduced in 1993 ( EA113),just like famous 1.8T.
Newer 2.0TSI (155KW) is based on Brand new project block EA888 with new architecture.
2.3 5 cyl. 10V engines is basically VR5!
It's VR6 with one cyl. less.
2.5 5 cyl. 20v inline engine code BGP / BGQ for U.S. market is not related to audi AAN/CQT... This inline 5 it's brand new!
But Audi is giving this 2.5 engine from Mexico the "Audi-Treatment" for the new TT RS. Not made for a thousand HP like the old cast iron block, but a good engine with typical 5 cylinder qualities (SOUND!)
in audi they drove some Test TT-RS with 500+ hp absolutely standable but you are right they are not as standable like the old 5 cylinder engine but good for 500hp;)
Maybe because they don't need it for any other than off-road and suv vehicles. This question is just like "why VW isn't using torsen diffs in their 4x4 cars, while Audi is doing so?"
having a 2.2L turbo engine is not a disadvantage against a big block non turbo V8. Turbo makes that 5cyl. engine smaller and lighter, while boosting its power up to those big block heavy metal crates... You know... inertia and such is very important in racing... less weight=less inertia=quicker change of directions
Also Europeans have smaller cars, with better fuel efficiency and 4 wheels drive is needed for safer drive and better traction on zigzag european roads,or for snowy roads like in Scandinavia or Switzerland...
@adwi123 What are you retarded, comparing vs American cars is infantile, you mean to compare this to the likes of British, German and Italian race cars. And yes the motor screams like no other.
We have the Whittington brothers to thank for ruining IMSA as it was in those days. IMSA, stood for International Marijuahna Smuggeling Association. Google Dick Whittington, and read the Wikipedia article about those bone headed brothers.
Call what you like, I was there. I worked for three years with a factory team in GTP, and two years for IMSA. My family has involved in some form of raceing for the last fourty plus years. I know a bit of what I speak.
Thats not a blow off valve. The reason why you hear that sound is because they never ran one one on the IMSA specification AUDI's. The noise you are hearing is compressor back surge. I am sure the turbo was useless after each but they didnt care. It was a factory race effort so cost wasnt s a big issue. Not running a BOV greatly reduces turbo lag!
Actually its a Diverter valve which almost all audi racecars used and it also came stock on the S models from 1992-1994 it recirculates half the air into the intake manifold and throws the rest into the atmosphere and thats why you hear it
Don't the MKV GTI/GLI have that setup, and is the 2.5 I-5 in the jetta some sort of an off shoot of this engine minus the turbo and all the pricey stuff?
Walther Röhrl and Hans Stuck also drove there. The noise of 5 cylinde audi is awesome. For me the 5 cylinder turbo and the Carrera GT V10 from Porsche are the best sounding engines ever.
There are some american obstacles on the track ...
... strange ...

why american car(CRAP)maker don't developed all wheel drive???
and do you think that 2.2 engine against big block is fair comparison???

Yes, with quattro and torsen differencial audi is much more stable at road and have better traction.
quite nice invention of Audi engineering
VW/Audi use haldex (50:50) in their comercial models because their cars with 200-300 hp are basically FWD,and than RWD,this car understeer !
Like Audi S3,Passat 4-motion...
for Sport-racing projects with more power
they use Torsen!!!
Oversteer like RS 4...
American car makers don,t have simmilar invention (like torsen diff.) in that time!
odzadze123 2 years ago

The cougar where the absolute beast. Roush was way ahead with the 2.5 four cylinder, Audi seriously lacked hp to compete with them.
