  • wow what a smart chicken!

  • Hardly automatic when you have to refill it everyday...

  • Nice design and execution .. Ben's concerns are certainly valid ,Not sure it would decapitate but it would break a neck , Chicken's head is pretty fast though , Have you ever had one get caught in it ? ..Someone asked the purpose below ,, This is to keep varmints out, Not ration feed , Most varmints cannot trigger door .Also has the possible plus of preventing scratching from the feeder , Chickens will waste a lot of feed just kicking it around..

  • Chicken steps on, door lifts up. Never a miscommunication. Cant explain that.

  • amazing

  • How is this better than just an open box? The chicken just opens this when ever he wants food, no different really. It should ration the food in some way, no?

  • @G3rain1 It is to stop other birds (sparrows etc) from stealing the chicken food.

  • how long will it talk them to get use to it tho

  • outstanding!!! I love it, may build one!!!

  • Only for Dr.- chicks.

  • i lol'd

  • Just showed this to my husband. Brilliant btw. Now, he wants one for a

    CAT!

  • xaxaxaxaxaxaxaxaxxaxaa

  • LOL!

  • wait what the hell! i was watching fish tank videos and this popped up!!!!

  • @gggutube me too ! XD

  • I can totally see something bad happening here, what happens if another chicken comes from the side while this one is eating, this one leaves and the door slams down on the head of the other chicken? not very nice for the other chicken.

  • too cute:X

  • That chook is way too smart!

  • Just wondering... is that a Buff Orpington?

  • Cool but whats the point? Does it keep other creatures out of the chicken food? Rats can chew threw it... :(

  • how do you train the chicken to step on the board to open the food?

  • @theswimer419 with a special tool that uses laser.

  • nice

  • i wonder how chicks eat........

  • @Winterwp teamwork

  • WAAH! It's DAMN cute! the way the lifted her legs to put it into that wooden thing!! xDD

  • This is awesome no more wild bird droppings in the feed Keeps much cleaner and safer, very clever.

  • I need help! my homeowners association wont allow hens. I have always wanted to do this and the city says its ok. Does anyone know a way past the homeowners association!

  • @TXRangers5807 move? HOAs are there to be busy bodies. am guessing you complaining will just help them justify their work (busy work) - this link is an interesting discussion on this topic - backyardchickens (dot) com (/) forum (/) viewtopic.php (?) pid (=) 6059019 (hope it shows for you)

  • ...I would make barricades for the side to insure that my chicken #2 would not get guillotined.

  • hmm...Genious great...

  • Ok, Picture this, you got TWO chickens. Chicken #1 steps up and starts eating. Then his friend walks up and starts eating from the side... Then chicken #1 steps away. What happens? Bam! Chicken #2 gets gilliotined. Can you see it!?

  • @beno420 nothing happens to Chicken #2 this is American design feeder, it always have a happy ending,

  • @beno420 Haha, when i was watching the video i thought of the same thing.

  • @beno420 There is an easy solution. Note the lever which the chicken is standing on. Simply extend the lever to include the sides of the box and staple on thin but strong wood or metal to the underside of the original lever.

  • @beno420 lool thats acturly very funny

  • @beno420 Teach chicken #2 a lesson!

  • With a few miner adjustments we could be head them after the feeding : )

  • where did you get that?

  • my chickens would be far to stupid to do that lol

  • how did I got here from Feeder - Feeling The Moment ? XD

  • fits single chicken, not married ones :)

  • Well that's cool. I was always partial to the steel wall mounted gravity feeders.

  • Great plans for this automatic chicken feeder can now be found in the Learning Center of BYC.

  • This is a great idea for the small scale chicken coop. Thanks for sharing. It'll definatly keep alot of mice and rats out of the feed.

  • You can find more Chicken Feeders at 'grandpasfeeders'

  • its not battery powered, its really nice.

    I LOVE IT.

  • that's a good idea

  • I would like to use this on my new site, lovemychickens.weebly.com, you can email me at tigerladytigerlady061@yahoo.com Please review my site I can tentatively place it on there for your approval

  • can you give me the link to how to make this

  • Do Raccoons eat cracked corn like the chickens eat?

  • @YouTubzie

They'll eat just about anything. Our game camera caught several eating the feed we put down for deer....

  • @YouTubzie yeah, they eat chickens too (a raccoon can eat up to 8 chickens a day)

  • Where can we find plans or actually purchase feeders like this?

  • cute but what's the point. it's activated by any animal ... oh rodents. i might suggest you emphasize that for us city folks :D

  • dude u spelled chicken wrong

  • 好棒!自動餵雞裝置!

  • smart cheicken!

  • This is a farmer's friend. Less waste and and mess = less work. Great idea!

It would be easy to train a chicken to use this. Start by placing feed on the lid the chicken will climb to reach the feed and its all down hill from there.

Chickens are simple but they are not mindless, they can be trained.

  • lul chicken!

  • Are the plans for the automatic feeder available? I'd like to make one of these!

  • It may not be practicable to buy one of these, but would you sell me the plan to make one, just for my own use?

    Thanks and cheers,

    Tony Berg trading as Boukejagt

  • thats great i have made one the prob for me is to get the chickens to use it lol

  • That is just to cool.... I want one for my dog as well. Squirrels /Birds would be to light to get it. I would love to see a plan as well. Cheers to you.....

  • i love rhode island red they tame very easy

  • funny video. one of the best. the chicken is quite smart. mine is too light to do this, maybe they can do piggyback in order to lift it

  • lol..i was working on a microcontrolled incubater and feeder system...looks like stone knives and bear skins wins again. Thankyou for the video- that is a fantastic design :)

  • Do you have some kind of instructions or plans on how to build this? Thanks so much!
