don't know of another modern song that captures the sadness of emigration as much as this one. First heard this hanging out with young Irish in New York. I guess it will have resonance for a whole new generation, though now they are in Australia.
Ah no way it is Heineken this was years ago the can was nearly all green then I'm sure of it I drink it back then. There is alot more silver on it nowadays alright. Carlsberg is a darker green way darker.
Sorry if I was a bitchl last week I had a few too many still think its Heinken though but a few people i had over think its Carlsberg so now I'm not too sure but anyway its all good :)
Was in Tuam myself last week. Browne's pub is no more, but the N17 sure is. Love the piece in the song when the old fellah left him to Shannon and they turned left at Clare Galway. A song for good memories
Wonderful song about leaving and going back home. Very evocative if you are Irish and had to move away. Probably most nationalities can relate to the sentiments in some way. Thanks for posting.
I saw (no pun intended) them over the summer at The Balloon Fest on Long Island. Two people in the crowd were carrying an N17 banner around and Leo said it had been at every show on the tour so far. These guys are great. Great version of the song!!!
This is from a long long time ago, when they were still fresh and raw. Saw them in March in Detroit, and they seem to have lost their way a bit with the newer songs. Still prefer the old stuff.
Saw them a few years back at the Cambridge Folk Festival, and they signed a CD for my little boy and tried to teach him how to dance to Tommy K. Really, really top blokes!
they were crying out for a younger livlier audience! the crowd were playing a standing still contest, except 4 yer one @2.20 Down that heino ya good thing
God!! How young do the band look in this video! 1990, eh? The year i was introduced to their brilliant music, and i still love their music to this day!!! Superb! : )
