I would so buy this tablet if they hadn't butchered the android os with the eden user interface. I like the basic android home screen with all my apps icons and widgets. This just looks like apps are running on the tablet 24/7... Btw has anyone heard what the pricing is?
@0GRAT0 this was before the android 3.0 coming out , so other company have to custom their UI to get the full screen , bc 2.3 android is not for tablet, btw the price is around $380

Do take notice in that it is not at all similar to the iPad in its user interface. As an owner of an iPad I can tell you that this is a totally different machine with a different purpose. This is a multitasking powerhouse tablet, notice the way the user interface switches through tasks like nothing while the iPad is a single application tablet.

So far I have only been able to test the iPad, the Galaxy Tab was is display only. So far iPad still in the lead. I will wait for iPad 2 hopfully by then all these other so called Pads will show up in Canada as well as usable demo models.
I dunno. Programs like winamp offered skinning to whatever you wanted, Trillian had translucency back closer to 2000. WinXP started having green / blue themes. *nix UIs started playing around.
The world was already moving in that direction, imho. There just wasn't enough CPU / GPU to accomplish what APL did. Heck, even my friend who likes the APL phone series says she would have hated the 3 because it was so slow.
Basically people need to stop trying to recreate or improve "iDevices" and bring something completely new to the market, as Apple did several years ago, resulting in huge success.

the problem of the tablet pcs is, that the workflow doenst get faster... typing is waaay slower (when you can type 10-finger), finger navigation seems to be slower all the time and the smoothe os makes things look nice, but react slower...
guys: dont you see what they are doing? they fit sort of 3 androids-apps parallel. but they are not really working parallel.
I mean: if you have to select, that means that they realize: now this app is running, we should calculate new images instead of just one frozen. => a whole lot faster...
and with such a big device => good big hardware (unlike in a cell). total: faster than any other android...
@Carrera1123 Well I did see the original demo of the tab, which was running one android in full mode. this is definitely a very cool implementation of the same tech but instead of one they have three side by side, just in case you need them or given how screwed up the resolution of an app is on this big a screen you will probably be thanking the UI has this option for complete usage of the OS apps at-least till the time they optimize it for tablets.. :)

@fixingbraincell I wonder about the bar as well.. but.. "No multitasking?" In the whole video, he was multitasking! That's what all those panels are. I think he had like 8 apps open. Note, though, that these apps are designed by NI to have a low-processing mode when not active.
@80r It seems as tho the red bar is a cover flow of the apps so it could potentially have a ton of them XD but thats why there is a search bar right under the red bar on the left.

We NEED some Honeycomb on this! I'm digging the device but the software looks pretty poor ATM. I was looking forward to this but if it's the best they can do I will have to go with the Google Tab when that comes out :(

@Polird the display supports subpixel rendering, which makes the horizontal resolution 3x that of the vertical resolution. Makes for really great text reading, and overall display.
The native resolution is 1024x600, but with subpixel rendering it'x 3072x600.
Actually the 3:37 one is good, it's the next 3:40 one that is incorrect. And I think that's because the Panels were in motion in that direction and snapped exactly when he pulled it. A glitch no less, but a minor one.

hmm yeah about ubuntu: there wasn't any new information about it lately, but this will be possible I'm pretty sure, but remember that ubuntu is far more complex system, tagra2 is pretty fresh CPU, so I guess NI won't be working on 2 systems at once, they will keep this possibility on users
to make good ubuntu for adam you need to peel linux core of drivers you don't need (CPU and hardware it won't ever use) turn off some services, write few drivers and modify UI a little
also don't forget: adam have specific system solution 1GB of fast SSD and 8GM of memory for normal use, you need to teach system to use this SSD/flash combo
anyway would be nice to see some ubuntu soft working on adam
You have to remember that Adam will be able to run linux ubuntu and other operating systems. For that reason ALONE it is FAR superior to the ipad...which is a closed system. Computing should be about FREEDOM.

I guess it have been now on pixel QI, little lacked of contrast when been writing using on screen keyboard, but that's minor flaw, also sound, could be at least some music
and remember bad video, even when it's not advertisement stuff is worse than no video at all at this point

If you mean panel concep, it's for landscape only. The entire tablet is designed entirely for landscape use, with the cylinder, etc.
Landscape functionality will be a MUST for each of its Third-Party apps, and ofcourse all pre installed apps, with portrait an option for some apps like PDF reader, office apps, eBook readers, Navigation, some games (landscape is better for most, except for some arcade types), etc.
I am just now realizing that in both videos, what people are perceiving as "lag" when flowing between panels is NOT lag. It is ACTUALLY Eden being EXTREMELY responsive and "snapping" the tabs in view to where they should be (centered, with only three in view). TRUE MULTITASKING WITH TRUE FLUIDITY? HELLZ YES! I'm infatuated- as soon as I get my Adam, I'm gonna kneel down and propose to it.
@cent0grassi No you can't buy NI tablet off the shelves in India. Although NI comes from India, it ships the product from China mainland. As far as I know, even Indians have to shell out $50 for getting this shipped on their doorsteps. I am waiting for the Pixel Qi version, mainly because that is a one-time investment and definitely well worth the purchase.

yup, hes wrong. the hardware is finalized already according their blog.As for the OS, its confirmed running on Android.
I find that I would not use the pixel qi very much. Since I am a student, will mostly use it for note taking and pdf notes. So, viewing angle, touch accuracy and the ability to use a stylus is very important to me. What draws me to adam is the attractive price point and that impressive power under the hood, the tegra 2.

Apple just have copied Microsoft tablet|UMPC.
Apple uses FreeBSD based OS code.
In 1980s Microsoft have been written MOST of software for Apple.
Iphone2G even now looks ugly, heavily teared, cheap china phone. Instead of HTC which products stands for years.
Ipad have only shitty LCD with multitouch, 3G and no connectivity or security (normal encryption) and no business application/printing support.
Of course really functional device needs much MORE efforts.

dude if its the motion and animations arent fluid it just looks like ancient tech. The future has processors and graphics processors that support fluidity, so if this cant be fluid that just means the coders behind it created inefficient and clunky software.

We NEED some Honeycomb on this! I'm digging the device but the software looks pretty poor ATM. I was looking forward to this but if it's the best they can do I will have to go with the Google Tab when that comes out :(

3072x600 resolution is used at grayscale reflective mode, however I'm not sure if adam will fully use this feature

@Polird the display supports subpixel rendering, which makes the horizontal resolution 3x that of the vertical resolution. Makes for really great text reading, and overall display.
The native resolution is 1024x600, but with subpixel rendering it'x 3072x600.

Actually the 3:37 one is good, it's the next 3:40 one that is incorrect. And I think that's because the Panels were in motion in that direction and snapped exactly when he pulled it. A glitch no less, but a minor one.

Nope, and that's the only thing the iPad has over it. Resolution and LCD panel.
Its Pixel Qi is still enough of an advantage to win the display battle overall
(Super high 3072x600 resolution, 10 times less power, doesn't hurt the eye, easier to read in the sun, can get up to 1000 nit, with a superb contrast ratio)

hmm yeah about ubuntu: there wasn't any new information about it lately, but this will be possible I'm pretty sure, but remember that ubuntu is far more complex system, tagra2 is pretty fresh CPU, so I guess NI won't be working on 2 systems at once, they will keep this possibility on users
to make good ubuntu for adam you need to peel linux core of drivers you don't need (CPU and hardware it won't ever use) turn off some services, write few drivers and modify UI a little

also don't forget: adam have specific system solution 1GB of fast SSD and 8GM of memory for normal use, you need to teach system to use this SSD/flash combo
anyway would be nice to see some ubuntu soft working on adam

You have to remember that Adam will be able to run linux ubuntu and other operating systems. For that reason ALONE it is FAR superior to the ipad...which is a closed system. Computing should be about FREEDOM.

I guess it have been now on pixel QI, little lacked of contrast when been writing using on screen keyboard, but that's minor flaw, also sound, could be at least some music
and remember bad video, even when it's not advertisement stuff is worse than no video at all at this point

I'm pretty impressed. It is possible to just have 2 panels visible at at time instead of 3? I would have liked to see how (if at all) Adam handles moving from landscape to portrait mode.

If you mean panel concep, it's for landscape only. The entire tablet is designed entirely for landscape use, with the cylinder, etc.
Landscape functionality will be a MUST for each of its Third-Party apps, and ofcourse all pre installed apps, with portrait an option for some apps like PDF reader, office apps, eBook readers, Navigation, some games (landscape is better for most, except for some arcade types), etc.
If you mean animation, bet its Open GL (smooth)

I am just now realizing that in both videos, what people are perceiving as "lag" when flowing between panels is NOT lag. It is ACTUALLY Eden being EXTREMELY responsive and "snapping" the tabs in view to where they should be (centered, with only three in view). TRUE MULTITASKING WITH TRUE FLUIDITY? HELLZ YES! I'm infatuated- as soon as I get my Adam, I'm gonna kneel down and propose to it.

@cent0grassi No you can't buy NI tablet off the shelves in India. Although NI comes from India, it ships the product from China mainland. As far as I know, even Indians have to shell out $50 for getting this shipped on their doorsteps. I am waiting for the Pixel Qi version, mainly because that is a one-time investment and definitely well worth the purchase.

yup, hes wrong. the hardware is finalized already according their blog.As for the OS, its confirmed running on Android.
I find that I would not use the pixel qi very much. Since I am a student, will mostly use it for note taking and pdf notes. So, viewing angle, touch accuracy and the ability to use a stylus is very important to me. What draws me to adam is the attractive price point and that impressive power under the hood, the tegra 2.
