his laptop is running most of the drums, guitars, other synths etc. all he is doing is fumbling with a few synth parts and singing. not hard at all. the laptop is doing most of the work

You obviously haven't seen Cortini live with Nine Inch Nails. He has about 4 Keyboards around him, a ton of Synths Controls, Controls for Lighting, and a Guitar. He is hardly underused.
