Good grief, "upon occasion", not every minute of the day or night. People would notice this and be unnerved. These Divine beings do not want to draw attention to themselves or make others uncomfortable. Avatars normally desire anonymity and don't go around showing off miraculously divine attributes unless its appropriate to the occasion.

@HamsaYogi You're right & I agree- they do not seek the world's sanction or blessings. That naturally creates misunderstanding or unbelief from people in general. In a nutshell it's like this: the world looks for a "sign", just as Jesus said about the scribes and pharisees in the Bible. Yogananda never stated that he was "divine", and later in life he actually withdrew from public speaking to teach privately in California. He wanted to share his divine knowledge- not promote himself personally.

@HamsaYogi I think the reason mjuaku mentions this is because the video mentions that other beings claiming to be Avatars cast a shadow. This implied that an Avatar never casts a shadow even though 'upon occasion' was mentioned in regards to Anandamayi. You can't say that sometimes an Avatar will not cast a shadow and then say you determine someone is not an Avatar because you saw their shadow. Follow? Even if all this may be true.

He is right....It is a waste and a bother to even mess with christians...As a kriya yogi student I am saddened...Especially by the general consensus that miracles are important and needed for one's beliefs....So what if he put his hands through her feet...What if her feet were solid at the time? The only point in citing this is to show what occurs at the higher levels of avasta or spiritual states of consciousness. When one becomes avatar then there is no karma, hence, no permanence in the physical world: like writing on water, it doesn't manifest. As Sri Yukteswar noted, "wisdom is not assimilated in the mind but in the atoms". Ma's vibration was so high that her physical body was made of light. Our focus is always on God but these miracles do occur spontaneously and are wondrous. 3~

I consider both of these noble tomes as my old and new testaments of Yog. Everyone should read them both for the complete story of Patanjali's Eightfold Path.

How does this gentleman know that the Kriya Yoga taught by Paramahansa Yogananda is watered down? Did he receive initiation from Babaji, Lahiri Mahasaya or a direct disciple? Maybe he was told that by someone. I think he should be very careful about what he says.

proofs are every where. Please look into the history. First of all there is no religion called Hinduism. It is called Sanatana Dharma. Sikhs incident is a political (congress) clash. RSS (Hindu) rescued many Sikhs during that incident. Caste system has started with a good intentions and respect for all. It is somehow messed up. But I don't think there is bloodshed.

India is an ancient land. Caste system was meant for spiritual evolution, not discrimination. Caste system degenerated under the onslaught of muslim invasion and British rule. HIndus, in trying to protect their religion, made it rigid. In ancient times, caste system was not rigid. A sudra can become a brahmin (eg writer of one of epics Mahabharata, Veda Vyasa, was born to a fisherwoman but hailed as a brahmin for his esoteric knowledge).

Just want to make some comments, please do not mind. I have met an avatar in my lifetime, apart from Anandamayi ma, and he was a manifestation of love on earth. I understand that perhaps Mr. Hamsayogi might have known only Anandamayi ma as an avatar.

He may have no been an avatar, but an avadhood. An avatar is born an advanced soul, fully conscious in God and Self. An avadhood is a person who has only just attained such realization in that lifetime, but has not yet left his physical body and gone into another (as an Avatar).

About the spot on the nose: you fail to mention that the same report observed that after the initial expectation that decay had now begon and the spot would grow, it turned out that it hadn't and it didn't.

Whats the big deal? He said that Yogananda softened the teachings for Americans which he did do. He said they could sit in chairs instead of sitting in full lotus. I already thought this same thing after practicing the SRF techniques, but I realized why Yogananda did it and its because most Americans can't sit in the lotus.
