  • the point is what netbook has this type of performance and can run excel like that?

  • but Apple put in it a crappy Intel HD 3000 GPU.

  • electronic-earth. com

    has a macbook air

    for a chep price

  • is she also in windows-version? :P

  • Seems about right. No offense to people who own the mba's that don't have ssds, but macbook hdds are really slow. 5400rpm is way too slow.

  • Oh yeah, gonna getting an SSD for my MBA rev A now

  • Mac Books are fucking shit. On a stock i3-530 and a WD Caviar Green 1.5TB SATA2 Microsoft Word opens faster. And guess what? PC's started with their own hardware, and then Apple stole it and marketed it as something which is not a computer. They should make their own processors and memory. And guess what? They have no fucking DirectX support. Thumbs up if you like tessellation!

  • а как это они так?

  • wtf does she mean with "4k" write? 4000 bytes per year?

  • Leenux version, lmfao.

  • Omg... The person on the right has ALWAYS opened the programme like 1.5 seconds faster than the other person.

  • @Milacck7 apple's "control" over their platforms is neither unique or the worst example of company control on their devices. Sony's ps3 takes the crown on that I think.

Apple doesnt ignore user demand either. They open up the high end device market to consumers who dont want to deal with stuff like Linux/android. Also, apple doesn't focus on physical device specs, which pc fanboys can't seem to get past. Rather, they focus on function and innovation, which is an undeniable quality in all appl

  • @ap4thy1

And ALL Apple Apps are open source. Anyone can be an Apple App developer, unlike Android.

  • @YukkiHabiki What, the only thing Open Source about Apple was the development of WebKit. Apple app's are NOT open source.

  • @YukkiHabiki WTF??? Really? Oh well that's great, can I have the source code for garage band please? Or iOS?

Anyone can be an Android developer, you just download the software on your Windows/Mac/Linux machine and run it. you need a Mac to develop for Apple.

  • you need to workout chubby girl

  • FAKE

  • Anyone who knows anything about macs can tell you that these are BOTH the older Macbook Air versions as they have the button at the foot of the trackpad. There is no button on the newest Macbook Air.

  • @ArtyCarl

Because they use the Glass Trackpad. The entire pad is a button. Push one and see.... all the new Macbooks are like that.

  • There's no way. Its fake!!!

  • fake !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lya

  • YOU LIE! This never happened! The MB Air has NO user-serviceable parts. You cannot upgrade the iDevice!!!!! Lol! Those were the end of the good-ol' days.... Now Apple has painstakingly ensured you cannot fudge with their products. If Apple says it's not upgradable, then thou shalt be done! *Bastards*

  • @milackk7 I'm assuming you're trolling. Just because a company says parts can't be replaced doesn't mean you can go in and do it anyways.

  • @ap4thy1 Yes! You are assuming - a very common "Youtuber" behavior. There is a truth (often ignored) to Apple's intended Imperialism of the personal pc market. Their undeniable control over the 'Apple" digital environment is unnecessary for dominance, and harmful (psych & monetarily) to the consumer. It's the consumers' naivety (like our ignorance of what went on in the housing bubble, etc.) that allows Apple to ignore consumer need. But I digress. It's just a product - buy it, or don't. lol

  • @milackk7

Build computers for 10 years, and yes, they can be upgraded.. but it is limited. Hard Drives, Memory, replacement Batteries....that's about it, everything else is integrated, same as on PC's.

Most things can not be upgraded because there are usually no such products out to upgrade them with, they are already 3-5 years ahead of their time when released.

  • This doesn't make sense. Why would it be faster with a slower processor?

  • The funny thing is, is that the one on the right isn't a macbook air...

  • U look cute :)

  • 7MB/s 4k random write speed is a slow SSD. Intel, Sandforce, and Micron can all easily do 50MB/s +. But yes the stock Mac Hardrive with the old Air is pathetic

  • id bang her

  • nice vid! but i really dont get the intro? 'for anybody on twitter who thinks the macbook air is a netbook, THIS IS FOR YOU' and then you compare 2 macbook airs....i cant see the connection....confused!!!

  • She single? :$:$

    P.S..

    MY B-DAY @-morrow:D

  • so, the point is: buy a standard MB Air and upgrade the SSD? or what?

sorry, dont get the point of it:(

  • of course the SSD will be much faster than HDD. However, i have to say, the performance of the SSD in this video is not impressive at all when you compare it to intel's SSD or OCZ's new SSD

  • She is very very cute.....are you single?

  • @stuav007 why the fuck are you asking if people are single on youtube?

  • The test was performed by a woman, don't expect any accuracy at all

  • you look hot ;)

  • It's that fucking Catalina Mac Mixer!

  • hangzhou,china is so beautiful

  • I personally think, overall, the Macbook Air is a useless piece of equipment. Oh yay, it's "40x faster" but... oh... How much does it cost? 1,500 dollars... without the SSD? Thanks but no thanks. I've never liked Mac Laptops anyway. Overpriced and lack of power.

  • That Mac sucks, my 300 USD pc opens Excel in 3 seconds from cold start

  • yes put the SSD her mouth its gonna be faster

  • wow my shitty single core laptop with 1.73ghz pentium m and a normal hard drive opens office faster than the 1 with the ssd -.- wow $899 huh.

  • I love my Macbook Air. I will be getting a runcore ssd soon to speed it up. It's the hdd that slows this computer down but I wouldn't tote any other laptop. It's easy to keep synced with my other Macs as well.

  • I actually can't believe the ignorance in this thread.

SSD's are MUCH faster than hard drives, particularly at Random access. They have much lower latency.

I/O speeds are the most significant bottleneck in a computer these days. Most applications are I/O bound, not CPU bound.

  • Thank you for this video, made me wanna get an SSD for my Macbook Air.

Great test but may I suggest you launch many applications and show how much faster the macbook air is in multitasking too with the SSD too!

  • You are a stupid bitch! You fuckin' cheat! The one on the right Mac is LOADED with programs! Your dumb!

  • very misleading

  • the SSD is too expensive and die to fast,i still go with the hard disc, that can survive in torture for years and years.

  • ummm what is happening?.....run what?

  • mmm yooo creo que me la tiraba (con su permiso, por supuesto)

  • Yeah this is complete bullshit. I looked at the HD name inside of the left MacBook, and a chart came up with a list of the slowest hard drives to the fastest, and the Samsung HD that is in that MacBook is legit the slowest HD made. Nice try though.

  • if the display is 12 inches or under it is classifed as a netbook

  • @TheOrando it's also about the hard drive, the ram, not optical drive etc. It's a bit more complicated than just the inches.

  • I wouldn't let the media touch my stuff!

  • how come you always hit the pad slower when you count down? youre the one whos counting down!

  • lame video

  • i could not hear a word you said, i was so absorbed by your eyes. beautiful.

  • SSD's aren't all good : they get slower the more you fill up and there are some other disadvantages, so be aware. Anandtech has a great review on SSD's up, look on google : anantech ssd, follow the first link.

  • Thats silly, HDD's run slower the more you fill them up.

So really it's not like people aren't used to that, it's more the fact that the SSD is vastly more stable than a HDD as it has no moving parts.

  • exept for ssds with trim support

  • @kleykenb

eventually they thet'll be good but right still garbage for long term

  • I think when people talk about an OS X netbook or a Linux netbook, I'm pretty sure they mean they are going to ditch the installed XP on it, and install either OS X or Linux...cause alot of people are doing that....

  • @BILLYBOBMANTARAY

OSX & Linux the same thing just osx dont let you modify everything.

  • Can I have her? She is better than Macbook Air.

  • @krishansy Nicole Scott: Macbook Heaven :P

  • @krishansy eww.

  • This is a con, false information. THE RIGHT MACBOOK AIR IS THE NEWEST VERSION REV C. THE LEFT ONE IS PROBELY THE FIRST GEN WITH 1.6GHZ 80GB HDD, THEY PROBELY PUT LOTS OF SOFTWARE TO SLOW IT DOWN. LOOK AT THE BOTTOM WHERE THE PROGRAMMES ARE.

  • A subtle con. 40X LOL

Left one is Rev C (latest) Air. 2.13GHz processor and 120GB spinning HD. Not a standard configuration. So they took out the Apple SSD, and put in standard HD from the Air on right.

Right is 1.86GHz Rev C Air, with Runcore SSD. They took out spinning HD on this one, added the Runcore.

    My Rev B 1.86GHz MacBook Air with it's Apple SSD gets a Sequential of 87 and a Random of 115. Runcore gets S = 151, R = 193.

    A 73% Sequential increase. And a 67% random increase. A trick.

  • face the facts

  • @minipcpro i agree with sysick. i dont like mac but that was to slow for a mac, even my windows based computer is faster than that. Also the physical speed of the processors has little effect on the performance, you need to look at FSB, QPI, DMI rating as well as memory speeds. I have seen people do speed tests against a standard HDD with the SDD on faster memory. If i could get the specs i would be more satisfied with the results especially if the HDD was on faster memory

  • @minipcpro Priceless!!

    for the rest mastercard :P

  • @minipcpro loose weight fat chick

  • You know you can change what "programmes" are there right? So that doens't make sense.

  • @sysick the solid state drives are that nasty, not a fluke at all

  • @sysick the one on the left has 3 more programs than the right.

  • @sysick My 2009 MacBook Air with the standard HDD takes about that much time to load exel

  • THE HARD DRIVE ON THE LEFT IS NOT AN SSD, it's the serial ATA drive. I just tested Xbench on my Apple SSD MacBook Air, and I got Sequential = 87. Random = 115. While it's no Runcore, it does prove this video is not what it first appears to be.

The speed increase for the Runcore is impressive, but in reality it's less than 2X faster. Thank God I ran the test, I was going to splash out the $499 for this, now I'm not going to.

  • Macfly??? Someone home?

On the left is the stock hdd!!!!

  • Yeah I'm home. The impression given here is it's SSD versus this new much faster SSD, a few people have left comments here backing up what I thought. Only it's not, it's the standard drive like you say. Which isn't way faster than the SSD Apple themselves sell with the product. In conclusion, all this should have been made very clear in the video. Just sound my bit, good day.

  • Don't blame Nicole we at Runcore put the HDD in the more powerful machine to further prove our point about the speed vs the HDD. We did not have enough computers to do the Stock SSD and we do not feel that people with SSD in their rev B C will upgrade so we wanted to show the HDD. Also do you realize you just said it ONLY makes the computer 2 times faster vs the stock SSD? That in itself is revolutionary let alone 5-40 times faster.

  • "Macbook Air SSD Upgrade: Over 40x Faster" 40X faster? Give me a friggin break. It may be faster, but there's need to lie by how much.

  • the 4k write speed darling is 40 times faster than the one on the SSD. Not sure what kinda mathematics they tought you in ireland but i guess i am gonna end this rant here now!

  • @minipcpro lol not sure what kind of spelling they "taught" you either.

  • @minipcpro

mathematics??? that totally theorectical,in real world for its size and price, its a piece of crap.

  • @minipcpro I don't know what kind of orthography they TAUGHT you - it's racism and arrogance that shouldn't be tolarated.

  • the interesting point here is, that the first commenters could get it, that this is an HDD. You are the one that is starting a spin over here and due to the fact that i am not willing to deal with any rants and fanboy trolling. cheerio!

  • The MacBook Air is an ultraportable, not a netbook.

  • Fantastic video.Very inspiring and different from the rest. Apple totally rules people.Just so that the interested one's may know,I was told that Apple is in India and if your a student, you can get some of the best offers from Apple now. Call this toll-free number and find out for yourself,1800-425-4646.

  • oh my god...she is

  • I'm trying to figure out the point of this video. What has it got to do with netbooks? Also, you showed that an SSD is faster than the stock 4200rpm drive... er, OK.

  • Well there are a few millstones in this vid.

    1st Revision B C SSD upgrade

    Fastest MacBook air ever shown

Many people don't know what SSD is or does and this video shows a small part of the many advantages.

It shows that you can upgrade your MBA slow HDD or SSD with a Runcore SSD with very positive results making it a very valuable upgrade to anyone who values their time or feels they can advantage from a faster, cooler, noiseless, secure, and longer lasting computer experience.

  • Yes, we get that the Runcorn SSD makes the MBA (and any other MacBook) perform a lot better than stock, but the video doesn't start with that being clear.

First of all, the intro talks about netbooks, completely irrelevant given the content. Secondly, as others have said, if you want to compare like for like, you need to compare the Runcorn SSD to the regular SSD or another company's SSD. Of COURSE it's going to be faster than the stock 4200rpm (iPod) HDD... that isn't anything to shout about.

  • the runcore ssd is all about upgrading your MBA. Guess how many average users know even what an SSD is... Exactly, none! If you ask my mum she will think this is any space station from star wars. That's why we are comparing it to the hdd. Google is still available and if you type in MBA SSD benchmarks (which takes roughly around 10 secs) you are getting it all. You can do it! We are a netbook site and we compare devices with netbooks, wether it's irrelevant for you or not :)

  • You're a netbook site? But you said yourself, the MBA is NOT a netbook.

I don't need to Google it, I work with this stuff every day, so I know what you're getting at, I just think the intro to the video isn't relevant to the content... I'm not criticizing your product, just the presentation.

  • thats great! It's not my product by the way. I am reviewing it. Yes, we are a netbook site and no, the MBA is not a netbook. I think we agree on that. :)

  • Seems we do, and oh thanks for the thumbs down, whoever did that.

On the Dell Mini, you compared a Runcorn SSD with the stock SSD, which I think was a great review. Comparing an SSD with a 4200rpm drive, is like comparing a Core i7 with a celeron.

    I like your other vids.

  • Comment removed

  • The lowest MBA costs $1,500 with the 4200rpm drive and 1.86ghz CPU (so it'll be even slower than the one in the video).

The lowest cost SSD model from Apple costs $1799 with 128GB drive.

A 128GB Runcore costs about $500, meaning you're spending about $2,000 for a MBA and a Runcore... which is why it'd be good to see it perform against the MBA.

  • I just checked apples site and they wouldn't even give me any options other then like 128ssd? but maybe that's because I put the student discount on the price... I didn't check the refurbished models tho... but I believe you... I don't follow mac's much...so I'm catching up..

  • You show em!!!

  • Hi guys the Xbench for the Stock MBA Rev C 2.13 Stock SSD VS. 2.13 RC SSD is 86.89 vs. 176.54 so the Runcore drive is substantially faster than the SSD version as well. But I also agree with Hypo I agree with your comments on mac users unwillingness to upgrade and we will try to show how easy the upgrade in in a few reviews coming out soon to try to curb that. It is so simple you will be amazed.

  • Thanks, that was the missing part of the comparitions

But the more interesting numbers are the randow Write and Read, those are the most common in a regular use of any OS, sequential Write & read being "talkative" only regarding Video editing etc.

Thanks "RunCoreVideos" for filling the gap

  • Well, compairing HDD vs SSD especially 1.8 inch HDDs, which always have been slower than any regular 2.5 or 3.5 HDD (and probably will never have more speed than 4200 RPM) is not really a fair Comparission, but would probably apply for commercial Info (ad'news?).

A fair Comparission would have been with the RUNCore SSD vs the Stock SSD model sold by Apple...

    PS : the MBA's HDD is a Samsung HS12UHE 120GB 4200RPM

  • Most people who have the SSD model won't be upgrading their SSD. True is not even ground, but the video addresses the reality of most users.

  • That's not my point : you don't compare Snail's Speed with train's speed...

and for buying decision It'd make more sens for people to know if Buying and HDD MBA + an RUNCore SDD is a better solution thant buying an Stock SSD MBA from Apple

Does It make sens or should I rephrase It?

The MBA is adressing a Niche market and enough of people constituting that group are people tweaking their Mac* for a faire bench to be done : IE SSD vs SSD

*(XLR8yourmac (dot) com, hardmac (dot)com etc)

  • well first of all there are no fair or unfair benchmarks in my opinion. When we are taking a look at this niche market, the hdd MBA is outselling the ssd one. So i think we are adressing a way larger number of users with this comparison. I also can tell you one thing for sure, that compared to Linux or Windows user, the average Apple user has nothing to do with hardware or OS tweaking at all.

  • I wasn't talking about "average Apple users" neither about "Linux Or Windows users" or OS tweaking, but

about what is showed in this Video :

    - Apple MacBook Air running OS X

    - Tweaking that MBA by replacing the 1.8HDD with an 1.8SSD

Which pretty much translate into :

    - NOT average Mac Users

    - 3x NICHE market of [Mac Users] [swaping HDD with SSD] themselves in an [MacBook Air].

    [...]

  • We may agree to disagree, but I'm far from being convinced by an Stock HDD vs 3rd Party SDD especially when including a Stock SSD reference couldn't have hurt the benchmark, (judging by the avalaible benchmark)

    [...]

Disclaimer : I'm a Hardmac(dot)com contributor, with an Unibody 17" with a 500GBHDD in the Optical bay and an intel X25M 160Go "Postville" waiting to be shipped

  • 3:10 wow didnt know that

  • im surprised it didnt overheat xD

  • Very nice!! 5 stars!!

  • Those kind of speeds should be illegal :)
