theres actually a video on youtube where david himself expkains the meaning behind this song. but like all music, the listener can interpret the lyrics any way that suits their need. music is art and the artist, while holding an idea, usually express themselves subtly so they do not influence too much but leaves room for the listener to find their own expression through the artists words.

@NaruSakuSasuLver Its not really depressing but its about a man having a child and not truly wanting one but having to be a man and deal with it, hes saying his world died when he saw that heartbeat and he would give his life for his son to stay alive. Its basically about a man adapting to be a father.

When David was 16 he got his girlfriend pregnant.

He accepted the fate of being a father and was gearing up to fill that role.

Then I think it was like a month early, she had a miscarriage.

He talks about the reaper cheating him because he was prepared to care for this new life, instead it was taken away.
