  • Danny Devito is an excellent actor. And so is Peter Facinelli. I hope his career goes well. He was fantastic in this movie.

  • Peter Facinelli downgraded this film by then appearing in that freaking VAMPIRE sellout piece of chit...yeah. TWILIGHT...Peter, you suck

  • Of course even the name of a burger in Pulp Fiction, is a film reference.

  • Underrated and stirring film. Exellent performance by DeVito!

  • DeVito is spectacular in this part. His best in a serious role. Spacey is also spectacular in this movie. It is sad that most people will never see this movie. It is simply one of the best...equivalent to 12 angry men, or other greats.

  • DeVito's greatest scene. A truly great movie...one of the best dramas ever.

  • Devito's greatest scene. A truly great movie.

  • This scene is amazing. However, one thing I've learned is that what Larry is talking about, that "character" that can only be borne from regret, is that what you regret has to feel like it was unquestionably the right decision at the time. And only later do you realize it was the entirely wrong decision. That is true regret, and that brings true character.

  • Love this movie and this scene. Few movies have this level of substance. Two thumbs way up!

  • Like Bob, I must respectfully disagree with much of what is being said in this scene. Now with that said, I will concede that there is some brilliant acting and writing within this film.

  • @Thompsongs could you please tell more? what exactly do you disagree with? Thank you in advance for your answer. (sorry for my english, not sure if it is correct).

  • Amazing!!!

  • 3 people are marketing reps

  • I adore this scene.

  • Bob is annoying.

  • wow.. powerful monologue

  • how the hell did this movie not win an oscar. You will never find a truer life lesson about people and life than in Devito's dialogue in this scene. That tells you all you need to know about the Oscars when this masterpiece was overlooked.

  • Amazing monologue, definitely DeVito's best stuff. Thanks for the upload!

  • Danny DeVito is hereby quoted for fucking truth!

  • Jebus, he's right. I don't know how that dialogue could have been written by someone who hadn't learned it already.

  • Amazing

  • Stupendous writing. Amazing acting. So many people haven't seen this. Oh,what they've missed.

  • One of the finest pieces of acting I have ever seen. Ever. And it's from Louie from Taxi. Good show, Mr. Devito.

  • if bob thinks that religion is more important than marketing, why doesnt he just become the priest or something, he s acting like a little virgin. and why the fuck he things that his believes are more important than larrys. arrogant and hypocrite shit kid

  • @wwwashab What a scummy thing to say.

  • Martini. :)

  • no tricks...no incidental music...just solid writing and solid acting!

  • @septip123 If by solid you mean amazing, then I agree.

  • After watching Glenngary glen ross, i thought there wasn't another piece that could match that film....not until i saw The big kahuna! Great Scene!

  • this is so poignant as unlike alot of what you see & hear in films what he says will affect everyone in their lives, maybe not in your 20s or 30s when you still feel the world is centred around you, but as you age and start weighing up the years behind and ahead of you its going to seem like a desert highway where the only parts you remember are the signposts for turnoffs....what if i HAD turned off there?..

  • The only good scene in an otherwise stank movie.

  • selling Jesus is not cool BUT telling others about Jesus is beneficial, talk to them relationally. Danny is dead-on! I watched this in a youth min class a while back. Geat clip

  • @Fireproofretz

Too bad most people have never seen this movie. This scene alone is full of so much truth, it's scary. I don't know many people who have such clarity of thought.

  • @IwantJenniferConelly Yes, Danny made me feel pain with this speech, it is scary when you heard it

  • brainwashing the ignorant and weak iron-age mythological babble is beneficial? if you want to be rational, you shouldn't be perpetuating a myth that just prevents human advancement.

  • The pain of regret gives us insight and that insight gives us the strength to be honest

  • intelectual+great performance

  • Thank you so much for posting this scene. I've been looking for it for the LONGEST but I couldn't remember the name of the movie. Today it came on HBO lol. Thanks again, I watch the entire movie just for this scene!!!

  • Danny DeVito you changed my life with this part of the movie thanks... I love you you my number one actor of all

  • I learned the truth of this speech after my wife discovered me in bed with her mother and her best friend and her uncle drenched in champagne and tangles in soiled sheets. On that day I can say I attained character by the wagonfull.

  • the best dialogue, to me the best writing, wish everyone understand what it is about, and more important, apply it

  • is more than a good movie scene is something u can literally take as a advice and apply on real life...usually that just dont work with other good movies

  • One of my favorite movie scenes. I wish I could recite it verbatim to some of the fundy neo-cons who won't stop preaching at everuone in sight! I've never heard this expressed so beautifully and succinctly.

  • I am a Christian, and neo-cons really piss me off. Very good scene

  • Holly shit!! That was great writing. words fail me right now

  • Wonderful POWERFUL deep REAL movie. Thanks!

  • One of the best movies ever made. And also one of my favorite scenes...

  • awesome scene

  • Thanks for making this available. This was my favorite scene when I saw this movie.

  • this scene CHANGED MY LIFE

  • Mine too! It had a profound impact on me.

  • DeVito's performance is simpy stunning! In my opinion, this is one of the finest scenes in American cinema.

  • Hey hyperbole. A bit much don't ya think?

  • I was being sincere. DeVito's monologue speaks greatly to my life. It's more than the words, it's his delivery that evokes a certain powerful and authentic sentiment in me. I am no film expert and I can't speak to the cinematography, etc.; nevertheless, my comment was sincere and came from the heart.

  • @kareemtabsh Agreed, this speech should be an oscar, a grammy a BAFTA a whatever they can give for it.

  • it is true pschologically speaking, most ppl with personality disorders DONT experience guilt or remorse. and yes most of them dont grow out of their '' child'' phase and as most children they never regret ANYTHING.

  • Fantastic Scene...one of the most profound truths on film...

  • In English it's just so better than in Italian!!!!i'm Italian, but in original language is just...amazing

  • per caracher che cosa intende in questo caso? carattere o personaggio?

  • Intende carattere, come in italiano.

  • God is a lion in the closet.

  • Bloody hell..

  • i just watched this movie and it is great, this was my favorite scene also. i was wondering if anyone know the speech after this one though, at the very end of the movie and beginning of the credits. it's a famous speech about apreciating things and giving you advice. i would like to find that please

any help would be much apreciated

  • just found out what the speech was, it is called wear sunscreen incase anyone else is wondering :)

  • the speech is a spoken word song from 1999

by baz luhrman, the text is a column from a

chicago sun times column in the 90's.

  • Criminally underated movie with genuinely inspiring dialouge.

  • This is BY FAR, one of the greatest film dialogues EVER WRITTEN, I tell people about this movie all the time.

  • Wow, what a great movie this is/was. I wish more people saw it.

  • Kevin Spacey is also tremendously good in this movie.

  • Was this written by David Mamet?

  • omg was lookin for dialogues for class project and ran into this. BY THE WAY ISNT IT THE GUY WHO PLAYS IN TWILIGHT...

  • Yeah, Peter Facinelli, he's pretty good in this movie.

  • I agree: you should see the entire movie to "get" the context of this scene - although it also stands on its own. The acting is stellar, and DeVito astonishes in this. One of my favorites. "Fluxfreq": thanks for posting.

  • my god that is such a true statement....I can spot them easier now also....its a burden on my heart though....I see people that I consider friends who have little character....I feel alone sometimes if you know what I mean

  • No Regrets = No Character... so true. Unfortunately, the longer I live, the more people I've discovered who will probably never "go beyond a certain point" in their character development... But this movie has just made it much easier for me to quickly spot them.

  • Devito has a shining moment here...great

  • Excellent! Thanks for posting this! Too few people have seen this movie!

  • Life changing experience

  • There are only a few moments in an actor's career that are marked with total perfection and great depth.

This one belongs to Danny DeVito.

  • This whole movie is simply brilliant. I never knew just how good an actor DeVito was until I saw this movie. Spacey had all the best one liners, but he and DeVito had several great scenes together, and they nail them all.

  • biger than god?.... the best scene

  • One of the great speeches frpm American salesmen plays. Wasted on people under 40.

  • Looking for a long time... trying to understand people who say, " I have no regrets". this monolog gave me a better prospective.

    Thanks, for posting it.

  • "You mentioned Jesus, first." - Larry

    "Yes." - Bob

    "Why?" - Larry

"Because I think it's more important." - Bob

That is from the scene directly before this dialog. It is all very true. Knowing all of the "pitches" and the right things to say to convert someone to a religion is no different than selling them industrial lubricants.

  • So true...even if one is "converted" by such conversation, it is often shallow and fleeting. The best testimony of truth is example.

  • "...because honesty will reach out from inside... and tatoo itself all acrost you face" - best scene of the movie; very deep.

  • This is one of my favorite movie scenes from any movie I've seen.
