We love this song!! In fact, we decided to do this song in a studio jam session we were having! We don't claim to be the Stylistics at all, but we really did a great job!!! Our page is 4KINGTV and the song is on the second half of the "KING LIVE STUDIO PERFORMANCE" video!
What exactly is "genius" about a totally unnecessary and painful distortion of a perfectly good song that would sound far better sung straight? Please explain.
@drwhatson I stand by my comments above. I think it's an absolutely dreadful rendition. Had this still been 1972, it may have had some novel effect, as it is I see this as a self indulgent waste of time. I am not so overwhelmed with Stevie's reputation as a "genius" or concerned about voicing a minority opinion that I'm blinkered to his flaws. The Stylistics original version is far better, and songwriter Thom Bell is the real genius here.
@drwhatson give it a rest. it was an interpretation and 'ode' to zap and roger troutman which you probably know nothing about. it's not a matter of this version being better or worse and you're free to not listen.
@drwhatson I couldn't agree with you MORE. Why on earth would he destroy a beautiful song. ( I believe he wrote it, too.) Give me the Stylistics original version anyday. I want to hurry up and finish this post as I can't wait to get out of this horrid version. Just God awful!!!
This is absolutely one of the best songs EVER written. In addition to that, being performed by Stevie Wonder ... that's true musical perfection. I get chills every time I watch this.
Mike Philips performed this with the same vocal modulation here in Atlanta and I remember it being ridiculously cool...Stevie doing it makes it a little more cool though. :)
dude he did this in perth australian and I was just so taken away by this rendition when i heard it. I tried to get it on my phone too and it just came out as shit quality, so did most of the others by the look of it. Im so glad you got a nice copy and shared it with all of us
I Cant Belive this!! I went to Stevie's concert in Gigantium in Aalborg, Denmark yesterday 17/9. And he freakin' played that song!!! I Couldent belive it!!
Dude, that's so dope! I wish he did that when I caught him at the bowl!!!

@researchsiempre As it happens I do, and Roger Troutman & Zapp were equal purveyors of pretentious electronic crap. This is tripe.
