  • I'll be seeing you in March dear Johnny Mathis...cannot wait...Luv you! Jane in Ohio

  • This is the type of song that almost anyone who sings it could hit, most of the time, an emotional chord in our hearts. Great Great Song.

  • Beautiful voice...!♥

  • You have some of the best of Johnny - at least all my most favorites. This one is from that album "Open Fire & Two Guitars", which was so lovely. These songs by Johnny always make my heart hurt! Love them.

  • @jbcritters I always put up songs that I really like. Johnny's voice always brings us to an emoitonal place. It's a good thing to feel the feelings and heal.

  • Hi ReadMeReadYou, Those days are long gone, but at the time it meant everything to both of us........Love makes the world go round.......

  • When my ex husband was away in Military, we had this pack to look at the moon at the same time, and think of each other......

  • @lasvegaslady My husband and I also did the same thing. : )

  • I love Johnny's range...he does it with perfection and makes you want to listen to his lovely voice...so peacefull this man...

  • Billie Holiday does a great version of this song -- different but equally moving as Johnny's version, which is sublime.

  • No one is better than Johnny Mathis!

  • I don't like the introduction to this song, because it dilutes the reference that most people have taken as the meaning of this song. During WWII, this was a favorite of soldiers and their wives and sweethearts. It suggested the scene of a GI stuck in Europe or the Pacific, wondering whether he'd ever see his love again, and that is a precious, melancholy picture of the mind's eye. The intro brings the song back to reality...it was written in 1938, NOT during the war. It's great, but....

  • THERE IS ONLY ONE NAT KING COLE AND ONLY ONE JOHNNY MATHIS AND THATS IT YIOU CANNOT COMPARE THESE TWO VOICES, THEY WERE BOTH THE BEST AT WHAT THEY DID AND DO BOTH LENGENDARY SINGERS OF THERE TIME AND OURS, FOR ALL TIME!!!!!!!!!!!

  • "I'll Be Seeing You" always ... in the cold and silent dearth of Winter

to the joy and beauty of the blossoming Spring,

then the glorious, all out Summer,

to the pagentry of the Autumn splendor.

    ALL Four Seasons,

    forever and ever ...

    Love always,

    -- Shane

  • Johnny Mathis was "The Sweetest Voice" of any male singer ever! Thank you, Johnny.

  • I remember how Bobby Ledesma sing that ,I love the song in memories of him....Johnny sing it so cool.....

  • The Ray Charles version is also nice.

  • Thank you for setting the record straight..on who and who is not a distant second...lets call it a tie..but for me..Johnny gets first prize...he won my heart many years ago..and stil has it..thank you for this one..and many others..I just go into a trance..when I hear him...and can never get enuff...mesmerizing sound...

  • @dar4869 Trance is a good word. He does transport us with his voice. Thanks for stopping by. : )

  • @dar4869 Me too. I had many Johnny Mathis "moments"

  • The unmistakable beautiful voice of Johnny. The master of control. A signature voice that is incomparable. All of us that have heard this voice have experienced one of the greatest singers of out time.

    TheGr8Jeff

  • This is simply perfect....Have mercy.....just perfection...tears are coming ...just brillant...Your family should be soooooooo proud of u-I know I am Johnny Mathis..Thank u for sharing this voice....

  • I almost cried this was so beautiful...

  • No one compares to Johnny!

  • This is my favorite track from OPEN FIRE, TWO GUITARS, Johnny's greatest album and one of the greatest albums of all time. I never get tired of listening to every single track on it, especially late at night with all the lights turned down low. Has there ever been a more intimate, velvety, stunningly beautiful male voice?

  • @billyguns2 No, there hasn't ever been a more intimate, velvety, stunningly, beautiful male voice. JM is the one and only. : )

    Thanks for stopping by.

  • @ReadMeReadYou The question "has there ever been a more intimate, velvety, stunningly beautiful male voice?" The answer is "Nat King Cole". I enjoy listening to Johnny Mathis and I think he has a beautiful voice but it is a distant second to Nat King Cole.

  • @javajoe9 I happen to love Nat King Cole and so does Johnny Mathis. However, you became insulting at "distant second." Johnny Mathis is a legendary vocalist. In his 54 year career, no one has reached the varied degrees of vocal changes that he has achieved in this song or any song. I have commented on many singers that have sung this song but never did I take it upon myself to insult the singer, by calling anyone a distant second on another's channel. Not nice.

  • @billyguns2 I completely agree. My favorite Mathis, and one of the best ballad albums ever -- especially the backing of just two guitars.

  • Thank you thank you!!! misty eyed and happy we all are...thank you....such jewels you have...how about a song that starts with "stand up just a moment darling, let me carch my breath" or somewhere among those lines....thank you....

  • Those of us old enough to remember Liberace, will recall how this used to be the ending song for his shows but Johnny sings it like no one else can or probably will ever be able to. this is one beautiful song both in melody and lyrics

  • You know there's something amazing there when a song can bring tears to your eyes.

  • ThankYou, ReadMeReadYou. Mathis does top, pinnacle, perfection with each and every Lovesong he's ever given to us all. Truly loving, lovely rendition,Johnny. Hugs, always. =jonycuddlesgert

  • stops frecuently. not for an extraordinaire song.

  • Absolutely beautiful! As always- well done! Thankyou~

  • @angelblue1054 Thanks so much for coming by. If you like Johnny's sound here, I have 56 videos of his songs. I really appreciate your comments. I put a new one up just today.......Shangri-La.

  • @ReadMeReadYou I love Johnny Mathis! He is simply unique!

  • This is one of the most beautiful songs that Johnny Mathis, has ever done. And the party that is responsible for putting this song together as well as so many others, is such a very creative person that enhances the songs with such beautiful photography. Your work is magnificent, please continue to make these wonderful Johnny Mathis, videos.

  • I have heard many performers do this song and I might add that a lot of them do it very well. But when it comes to Johnny Mathis, doing this song there is no comparison in anyway shape or form. Also the person that puts these songs together, has such a great talent and insight with the photography that is added to all her songs. She certainly knows her craft, and always does such a wonderful job.

  • Classic! great memories...Divine song..

    Thank you for sharing...xxxx

  • What a beautiful pure voice! Johnny Mathis is my favorite singer when I was just a kid, and listening to him sing this song is just pure bliss!

in Scotland. Another song that is my favorite.

  • I agree with you. The best rendition ever.

I think my first song was "Chances Are." All of his music is wonderful. Thanks for stopping by.

  • lOVE THIS SONG AND jOHNNY!!!!

  • I'm with you on that. : )

  • This is my most favorite song since I was young. And I agree with you, nobody did sing this song this beautifully considering that many professional singers have covered this song.

This is one of the most beautiful song ever written, the lyrics and melody, that's why I didn't wonder why of all the many songs I covered and posted in my mellowtouch429 channel, this my most viewed rendition second to that of Michael Buble's version.

Thank you my friend for this wonderful video.

  • It's a wonderful song. I've always loved it too but I truly believe, no matter how great it was sung by others and it has been, JM sung it the best on this recording. I went to your channel and couldn't find it. Please send it to me. I'd like to hear it. Thank you for coming by, friend.

  • I Love Johnny Mathis, since I was 14 teen stillfeel the same about him and his music and always will, the third greatest thing to happen to me in life was seeing him at The Waldorf Astoria in NYC 1970, what a thrill it was and always will be.

  • Thanks for sharing your memory. Wow, from 1970. How great.

  • I've always loved this song, and have sung it myself, but of course THIS is how it should be sung. If only we all had this level of talent! Wonderful.

  • Yes, I like that too. Thanks for coming by and posting a comment.

  • Absolutely LOVE the way Johnny gifts us by singing the original intro verse to this wonderful song! Wish more of the singers of the old standards would do this because it gives us the complete story to the songs. Thanks 4 posting!

  • What a voice...a most beautiful instrument. I have loved listening to Johnny Mathis for over 50 years and I'll never tire of the magic! Thank you for sharing!

  • Thank you for stopping by. It's been over 50 years for me as well. : )

  • Johhy Mathis has magic in his voice. Whoever hears him falls in love with his amazing talent, just AWESOME voice and the many subtle way she has of itnerepreting a song. He has a good ear for music as well.

  • It's funny how a song can make you so happy and so sad at the same time.

    ♫♥♫♥

  • It's so true. This song makes you run the gamut of emotions. The lyrics really get to me. I think Johnny's voice takes it to a place which would be any composer's dream.

  • I know, his range is absolutely amazing! His Christmas songs are SO great too.

  • Songs goes to Bobby Ledesma I LOve you always....

  • What a voice. I have never heard anyone sing this any better than Johnny. He makes you feel the song and not just hear it. He is really one of a kind.

  • Thanks so much for the comment. You're so right.

  • Hello Angela, Here I find you again in another venue and am warming to this computer sharing. I know fro eperience that Johnny is very easy to love all by myself. • Thank you so much for posting it. Do you know, when I was very young I purchased that album "Open Fire, Two Guitars" and it remained one of my favourites, though I have long since lost it.

Would love to get a CD of it someday. I loved every number on it, although my family were the opposite -thought it was far too sad.

  • Actually, the CD is still selling. You can get it at amazon online. I love it too. Every single song. I think it's one of his best albums. Thanks for stopping by and commenting. I'm glad you liked the song.

  • Perfect ...perfect....perfect.....Best Version ever!

  • You know I agree.

  • Johnny Mathis is a WONDERFUL SINGER and I have been a HUGE FAN of his every since I first heard him sing. I realize what a pioneer he was and what he had to overcome which makes me just LOVE his MUSIC all the more! Love to listen to him --THIS AMAZING VERSION OF THIS GREAT STANDARD is going into my favorites IMMEDIATELY! Thanks you so much for posting ths! He deserved an orchestral accompaniment with full compliment of strings. WHAT A GREAT VOICE! WHAT A GREAT GUY!

  • Thanks so much for stopping by and commenting. I can hear your love for Johny Mathis is your words. We all love him so much for who he is and, of course, his great talent.

  • thank you for sharing these comments from the fan who is just discovering Johnny. As I said down below- i haved always loved this song- and although I love the traditional (Jo Stafford type) versions- nothing is close to Johnny's interpretation of it- as that what he does best (along with his beautiful voice instrument)- he interprets songs with such feeling - like a poet.

  • I had to put this "comment" below in here. I received a personal email about Johnny and this song and I had to include it in this comment section. The young woman who wrote it wasn't particulary a JM fan but she listened to the song (and others I've sent her) and is changing her tune (yes, a pun). Here's what she had to say I'll place her email beneath this in two installments because it's long. The grammatical errors are deliberate. She's an excellent writer.

  • Hi Ange,

    Was thinking about you.

I'll be seeing you .... Johnny Mathis! I listened to it for the first time tonight. Sorry it took so long but I really wanted to hear before I ventured a comment.

    So, I closed my eyes.

I see why you dare be so gutsy in the subject line and say:

Tell me anyone else sings this better.

First of all you got to listen. I listened and I have to say he articulated melody.

  • The song/sound was an exercise in voice control ... where his range was a story being told; a whispered earful, and a babies' lullaby fluttering with every other note. Such control, awesome control, unheard of control produced this song and it was obvious he enjoyed himself.

  • The ending ... the chestnut tree, the wishing well. I'll be seeing you, every lovely summer's day, in everything that's light ... I'll always, always - what can I say? Perfection that ranges the gamut from the first note to the titillating soprany at songs' end. OK, sophrany ain't a word, but it should've been.

Thank you. You are right. U tube does heaven.

  • You'll see it took me three installments to get her whole comment in.

  • beautiful & touching.reminds people of WWII when couples danced not knowing if they would see these people again or live to dance again. always pulls at my heart. At risk of being and not romanticize WWII, I think this was the last war where Americans; soldiers and citizens, felt it was the right thing to do.losses were incredible yet people held their heads up high in support of their country. This is my observation. Jo Stafford's version played throughout the war is on YouTube- worth checking.

  • Yes, many have sung this song. I have it by just about everyone and the first time I heard Johnny's version, I forgot about all of the rest. He just makes these lyrics come alive, in my opinion, like no one else can. Thanks so much for stopping by and commenting.

  • Thanks so much. There's no other Johnny Mathis. He brings tears to my eyes with the way he interprets the lyrics with his voice.

  • ReadMeReadYou, Oh, what an appropriate song to upload. I love this Sammy Fain, Irving Kahal song, it reminds me of another time. It was published in 1938 and was much loved during World War II. I did some research and learned that the first four lines of the song replicate the theme of the last movement of Gustav Mahler's 3rd Symphony. Also, the song became notably associated with the great Liberace as the theme to his TV show in the 1950's. Thanks so much for this.

  • Thank you for your comments and stopping by. Very interesting information. I do remember it as Liberace's theme song. I always injoyed his show as a child with his brother, I believe, as his violinist. This song was in the WWII era, along with "Don't Sit Under The Apple Tree" a very popular song. But this rendition, sung by Johnny Mathis, just blows it out of the park. I can't imagine listening to this without a tear, automatically coming down one's face. I really enjoyed reading your comment.
