@carkorot Ahhh! funny. Or maybe they were like " Holy cow this guy is badass" then stumbled over their keyboard anxiously clicking away with the mouse trying to hit the like button,,, and oops!,,, hit the dislike. We'll forgive them.
@floevo I just went out and Bought the H-1007 w/floyd rose because I got to try yours out at Namm. It is an excellent guitar! Still trying to decide between the series one Blackstar or the Mesa mark V.
@floevo andy ur my god... im buying this right now, sounds so amazing.I hope someday you make a lesson for war march either in licklibrary or blue jam tracks. Thanks for everything!
some of the tapping licks are so fucking insane, and he shreds so deep through his triplets, picking every note thickly. great tone and feel. really digging this.
Wow, probably the most melodic and interesting tapping ideas I've heard. He builds up with all this drama then WHAM! hits you with the tapping. Super clean and fast picking and legato. Most metal players just shred, but this guy develops the solo like a classical musician keeping you on the edge of your seat. The new breed of metal player.
WTF? 7 Dislikes? So 7 guys don't think this guy is any good? Morons. Perhaps they didn't get past the stupid Heineken advert that insists on playing before I can watch this legend.
Dear Andy, appreciate all your videos on YouTube and really like what and how you play your licks and songs. You are my absolute # 1 favorite when it comes to shredding. Everything looks easy what you do but i know it is hard work. Please continue to put your videos.
@Shredmastakaos This was LTD H-1007 into a ibanez tubescreamer into a JCM 800 Marshall. Thats it. The band does not work in that position as it needs to be around the 4th fret to work as the neck slightly widens in turn clamping the strings. There are open strings being played in this video.
@Hielkenator you're so right man, I know its a matter of opinion but Govan would be the first on my list and Andy would be second by just a bit. Not forgeting Vai, Gilbert, Malmsteem, Batio, Howe, Satriani, Petrucci, Johnson, Buckethead and about 1000 more. Andy James and Guthrie Govan are masters of just abou any style
This guy is very, very skilled! I'm no trying to take anything away from him, but I'm truly curious how clean he gets it without the string dampener. I could care less if he uses it or not, but it would be interesting to see.
@ABadHorsie It's on the first fret. See the black band? I'd say there is loads of effects that he runs to help it keep so clean. It would be a different story if he just plugged direct into an amp and shredded :) This dude should be part of the next G3...
@ABadHorsie I've wondered that also, and many players are using them now. Now I'm starting to think it's the evolution of the instrument. Keyboard and horn players are lucky, if they let go everything stops. At first I didn't like the dampener, but now I realize these players are pushing the envelope and need tools. Of course we use right hand palm and left hand index finger muting techniques, but it's almost like guitar has an inherent design flaw with the open strings.
@ABadHorsie When playing, moving, tapping, picking etc it vibrates all strings (impossible for it not to) so when Andy is using this much gain, any interference of string buzz will diminish his tone. It's only solved by the dampener, no amount of practice can stop it.
@1madaboutguitar: Note I said early JP, but a lot of his late stuff contains emotional stuff as well. Anyways, solos like the one in Voices, Lines in the sand, Another Day, Take away my pain and so many others are very soulful.
Watching AJ reminds me of the joy of watching early John Petrucci, a player who perfectly combined soulful phrasing with fire and passion. AJ is here to claim the throne and as of today, I think he deserves it!
@TheLinuxExperience Petrucci bores the shit out of me. Dont see much soul with that guy at all, more like a robot. Andy James has it all... and some!!
@FamGuitarist that's one of the easier things he plays :P Learn the intro to steve vai's building the church, it's the same concept, actually pretty simple
@tornado600rr Haha I would love the see it, anyway it's Petrucci's style. It's not just about playing lighting fast, It's about develop your own style. Don't get mad mate, I like them both haha, he's amazing too.
@tornado600rr YEAH MAN, i'm a big guthrie/fusion head but..hats off to andy man he is like one of if not the most unsung guitar greats on the planet. i think technically he is just untouchable, he's got the speed and accuracy of gilbert and he is an extremely accomplished musician...he is no doubt one of the WORLD'S BEST AXEMEN...i'm not big into metal anymore but there is no denying this greatness..guys get all worked up if u say something sideways about kerry, scott,&them guys cmon andy is king
Guys like Andy are amazing. Why anyone still thinks Eddie Van Halen is a great guitarist is beyond me. EVH was great for his time and is pivotal in the history of guitar playing evolution, but guys like Vai and James have taken it up to the next level. EVH got worse with time.
@najtrows And it's that kind of realization that makes us strive to play better. I bet Andy thought that same thing while he was watching JP or Gilbert on YT, and he decided to get better.
