I sometimes think being widowed is God's way of telling you to come off the pill - haha!! Genius! And when Mrs Babs does a double take at the swinging door when Miss Berta comes in and it doesn't shut!
@wellohmeeeeeee God I've wanted to meet someone who was old enough to remember the first six weeks of Crossroads when it had the 'fold away' set before the proper ones were introduced. They swayed bad apparently cos it was all done in an old theatre with hardly any room to swing Noele Gordon's hand bag.
@RelativeBadger Rubbish, she's said its based on Coronation Street, Waggoners Walk and Crossroads actually. The electrocution scene is a direct piss-take of Valerie Barlow's hair dryer death and FYI the 'behind the scenes spoof' was based on the one recently made at that time about EastEnders and Julia Smith.
The beauty of this is how they don't have to worry about things like sound booms creeping into the shot, camera shadows, etc. Because it's meant to be crap, none of that matters!
good for you i'm 18 and its alot better than some of the so called 'comedy' shite that is on our tv's in this day, not that all of it is rubbish only some.
It's so funny you say that.....because I was about that age (maybe a year or two older) when I thought that the Victoria Wood show and in _particular_ 'Acorn Antiques' were the funniest things around :)
Delighted they kept the corpsing in and not edit it out, Spike Milligan used to do the same and it was all the better for it. Classic stuff.

Love Susie Blake's continuity character, so dry and cynical!

Just when you think it can't be bettered there's Susie Blake: 'Bath, Edinburgh and somewhere bizarre...where was it? Oh yes: Doncaster.'

Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant, a sort of piss take of Crossroads in a way!
kieran196 2 years ago
@kieran196 This was not a 'sort of piss take of Crossroads' - Victoria Wood said that's ALL it was - a COMPLETE piss take of Crossroads.

What does Julie say at 1:11? it _sounds_ like: 'sometimes I think being widowed is God's way of telling me to come off the pill'
hehe is that what she said? :)

when Mrs O laughs at 1:57 is that part of acorn antiques or is it julie walters laughing? - anyone know?
financehipflask 3 years ago
I think it was a genuine "blooper" but they left it in as part of Acorn Antiques to add to it's amateurish charm.

im so glad someone else thinks so. it is too good to not be a mistake.

I love the backdrop that sways behind the windows. And the bit where Victoria's obscuring the shot is priceless.
Love they way they "forget" their lines occasionally.
Classic.
