Music can play the part of a Rorschach inkblot. I have enjoyed reading through the various interpretations of this work. For me it speaks about the captains of industry and a brave new world, before the reality really hits us.
@AmandalaWill: That's a good comparison. My sightings are of the grim past of mankind, the eternal suffering through all times — it's at the same time 19th century death, as it's also a thousand years ago and the present day — and as of the World war: the merciless tanks thundering over the frozen wastes of the Russian thundra.
Esta musica lembra um grande confronto é como se a mascara caisse Prokofiev era um musico despreocupado com estilos e ao mesmo tempo muito atencioso com a intenção musical
Tenor saxophone is scored throughout the entire work, but it just sticks out here because Prokofiev wrote the solo to start on a low C#, which is a very difficult note to play gracefully and this particular saxophonist did a pretty shitty job of it.
One could just say: Formidable! (I'm not yet sure which is more formidable: The animation, or Prokoviev's great work; I'm, however, sure that both help the other one quite effectively to impress the audience/viewer! Great choice!)
performed this piece last year, (i am a violinist) and i absolutely love the dissonance. usually it hurts, but Prokofiev does it so amazingly. And to whomever wrote the comments below asking if it was the sorcerers apprentice...no this is not the sorcerers apprentice...*look at the title*
"no this is not the sorcerers apprentice...*look at the title*" This was not their question. The answer is - Yes, this is the music from the Aprentice (TV Show).
Prokofiev is one of my favorite composers. The artfulness which is preceded by such a strong influence of sheer strength is brilliant. Even when the piece flows softly with the entrance of Juliet a tension of desire and tragedy are still etched into the background. Simply wonderful.
He shuda called this the "History channel Red army theme" coz every time the History channel shows a red arm military parade goin through red square this misic is always playin.
I have a cd that says this piece is the Montagues and Capulets from Romeo and Juliet by Rachmaninov - does anyone know why it says Rachmaninov and not Prokofiev?
bu besteyi ilk duyduğumda afallamıştım. çok ilginç, iniş çıkışlarıyla şaşırtıcı ve gergin, isyankar; bambaşka bir müzikti... hala her dinlediğimde aynı şekilde etkileniyorum.
It always makes me think of German and Russian soldiers in World War II, sometimes German fighter pilots too. I don't know why. Maybe it was the soundtrack to some battlefield scenes I watched when I was very young.
This used to be a opening theme to a TV program in the early fifties. That's how I
learn to love classical by the TV shows that played them.

But it is also the grim death of the medieval times... Listen to Carmina Burana, Fortuna... There is only gruesome death and suffering...

What the...!!! Carmina Burana is just the opposite!!! Is party, sex and medieval rockarolla!!!

I'm bouncing through Youtube at the moment.
Right now I am in a Prokofiev mood.
Thankyou so much for your posting. It is much appreciated.
Right now, however, my urge is heading towards Kije.
But I'll be back. Mark my words.
Thankyou so much.
Kije: His birth, marraige and death are celebrated in music. But he never was.
Kije is my ultimate 'fictional' character.
He never existed during his birth, marraige, and death. But was a hero to many.
Please enjoy the Kije story.

Do you see WW2 Soviet tanks thundering across the grim frozen tundra? I do.

Definitely - as clearly as I see the luftwaffe when I hear Wagner; or
WWI trenches when I hear Holst's Mars

think Prokofiev is the greatest "images-composer" of all times. think he was composing while "watching" the story in his mind. wonderfull musician.

The piece is "Montagues and Capulets", so it MUST give the idea of war =) ...that means Prokofiev managed to do it as he intended to ^^
