  • ahh, i love your locs. Thank you for the vid.

  • I had buildup in my locs and I tried this after watching your video. My locs feel so clean now. Thanks.

  • Lol no you did not put that song on... I love that song, I can't stop dancing lol

  • Had my locs about 4 years now and they are really long so i tried the baking soda and vinegar rinse and was glad to see how good it works.Wish i knew about this in the beggining lol.

  • first i want to say you are absolutely gorgeous. second, i am currently at the *sit for 30 minutes* stage with the vinegar. my mom and sister said they can see and feel the difference in my locks already. thank you SO much for this tutorial. my next step in a couple of months is dyeing them and i'll definitely check out your video for that :D

  • what is the difference between the regular vinegar and the apple cider vinegar? why is everyone suggesting that u use apple cider vinegar instead of the regular?

  • @krazykrimz It has something to do with PH balance. Not going to front like I really know though.

  • I am almost to my year of locks and looking at how to complete hair styles to washing with you has been the best...your greatly appreciated

  • @926dimples THank you

  • Thank you for posting this tutorial. I been growing my locs for a year and four months now, and I've learned so much for you.

  • @Freshnova Thank you

  • Nice vid!

  • great video.. i will do this my next shampoo..

  • Girl, U ROCK!!! I've been using this technique every 4-6weeks for the past 5months and I have to say, it has not failed me yet. So, here's a long overdue THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU to NEW211. Peace n Love

  • you are amazing!!! thank you

  • im jamming to the music :)

  • With respect to other people's tutorials, this was the most practical that I've ssen. I plan to do exactly as you instruct, thank you so much!

  • like your method but remeber that leaving in conditioner can damage the hair causing it to over process so you must rinse out the condtitoner.

  • What is a sud?! because I heard my ppl used that word and I'm confused :/

  • When You Pour The Vinegar On The Bakiing Soda Is Your Hair Suppose To Fizz ?

  • i heard da music and realized it was haitian lol i like ur locs. great video

  • I have a huge problem, i am even ashamed to say it lol. I have had my locs for 8 years, so they are aproximately 2feet long. I have a lot of build up in my locks...its like heavy grease or something. When i wash my hair and i ring them out (like ringing out a rag) I get all this dark greasy stuff on my hands and drying towel. It makes me so mad that I have not been taking care of my hair. Will this vinegar and baking soda mixture work for me?

  • @hitsndc Don't feel bad at all. I've had locks for 18 years with the same problems. I would shampoo & cleases weekly but the build-up would still be there. Yes it can be very embearrassing. It only felt totally cleansed when I went to a natural hair professional but soon after it was the same. I'm going to use this sister's great advice regularly and I''m sure it will work for you too. Stay strong & clean! : )

  • I've just tried it and that is the BEST build up removing method I've seen, thank you soooo much!!!!

  • cute style.

  • Awesoooome. I always did a soak but never thought of just putting all the stuff directly in my hair..

I do have a question though. I have pretty straight hair.. I already experience hairs coming out of my dreads.. (they are just about 2 years old) So do you think it would be smart to use conditioner? I just feel like that may cause more loose hairs.. Also with the jojoba oils? I dunno if I should add that.

    I envy your hair texture and your dreads. :}

  • Great vid-I'm gonna try this.

  • Thanks, in the deep condition phase as we speak and I'm already noticing how CLEAN my hair is..I truly appreciate your video.

  • I'm trying this ASAP! I appreciate your time, hoping this'll be a life saver :)

  • UPDATE: ok so I just did this (10 mins ago) and my locs felt amazing after. I saw all the gunk and come out . My scalp felt so good and I think my locs got a lil darker. I followed with the Aphogee 2 min reconstructor, left it for 5 mins then conditioned with Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose Cond (love this) and now I'm doing a hot oil treatment with coconut oil, evoo and 2 drops of almond oil.

My locs thank you. Oh and the buildup I had in the back row.......GONE!

  • I've done the ACV rinse but never with baking soda, Will try it tomorrow since it's my wash n pamper locs day.Does the ACV rinse fade your colored ends? Girl, you had me dancing when one of my fav Kassav songs came on. Best group of all times. Wish to see a live performance one day. Thanks for this vid.

  • in lieu of ACV, i use lemon juice. Smells great!

  • in lieu of ACV, i use lemon juice. Smells great!

  • Girl i cant stop dancing... i had to comment b4 finishing the vid! Lol... I LOVE that SONG!!! Thanks 4 the tips... i see crazy build up in my boys hair n i wanna get it out! Not cute!

  • This was a GREAT video!!! I'm going to try this tonight!! Thank you for sharing this :-)

  • I started my locs using a beeswax based product very sparingly, even so- i washed and clarified with acv 2 days later. I wash with a blacksoap bar and a smallpart of my head felt like it had buildup- i gently scraped my scalp ( i dont have nails really) and i saw a white residue. I wonder if its the blakc soap leaving a residue? I don't know. I didnt rinse the acv out so we'll see. I will try this technique next time. Did you condition your startedn locs? should i just wait till locs settle?x

  • do you recommend using conditioner twice a week if your hair is dry from allway using a clarifying shampoo is conditioning your hair everyday ok for locs

  • great video thx 4 your good advices!!! and OMG!!! I can't believe that u know kassav! it's a band from my little island Guadeloupe (french west indies)

  • I just saw how well this worked for Misspotential. I am going to tr on my daughter's hair today. I am havinh a SERIOUS buildup/lint issue with her locs. Thanks for the vid!

  • i have a lot of build up...and its white n i use a safety pin to pick it out and it looks like da stuff that u clean out of the Filter in your dryer...it will not come out and i did the vinager wash stuff

  • THANKS so much for this vid. i don't have a buildup problem but I still did the ACV rinse, washed, and deep conditioned my locs today. my scalp feels amazing...and to top it off I styled it almost like you did.love it!

  • @jkui29 Yay! so happy to hear that.

  • Soooo I had a buildup crisis and this video saved my life !!!! I posted my own video check it out thanks girl the baking soda did the trick I'm so happy you made this video I just posted mine super shoutouts to you sis !!!

  • @misspotential YAY! This is great!

  • Thank you for such an informative video...i have to do this soon!!! Plus showing us how to use the baking soda really helps too.

Now I have to comment on the music..........perfect tune to play, it had me dancing in my chair lol!!!

  • very informative im gonna try it out

  • great vid...very informative...question: you said no product at the root, does that mean u did not retwist?

  • @msyata1 I interlock my hair to maintain, that doesn't require any product. I only twist to style because I like the look. But I don't use product for that because I don't need my twists to stay together in order to loc.

  • @new211 oh ok thanks!

  • Hey Natalie! Do you add the vinegar directly from the bottle? Or do you do a ratio? Also, how do you find the smell? I find that for people, the smell comes back. Have you experienced this?

  • @femme112 I don't do a ratio, because it never bothers me or irritates me and my hair is wet already. I don't know if that's ok for everyone. I shampoo after I rinse with vinegar, so the smell never comes back. Some people shampoo first for fear of buildup. But if the smell is coming back it's because there's still vinegar in your hair (YUCK) and that's basically vinegar buildup.

  • @new211 Thanks!

  • lol when she did the eyes brows thing...lol..

  • im glad i subbed to her shes cute and helpful

  • So I can use Leave in Condition for my locs? Even if the condition isn't for dreads?

  • @LeslieMoniqueTV My leave in is for dreads, but yes you can use it. Everyone if different though, so test it out on a single dread before using it on your whole head, to see if it's right for you.

  • You're a great teacher! Wonderful suggestion about using the baking soda with the ACV! I can't wait to try it!

  • Yeah!!! Loved your video! You're the first person to suggest using baking soda with the ACV! i can't wait to try it! you're a wonderful teacher!

  • Good video! I was wondering why you didn't use a spray bottle when you was applying vinegar to your hair, but I saw your comment that you lost the spray bottle. Since I started my locs (about to be 4 mos next month), I use Organic Root Stimulator Dry Shampoo which actually helps clean my scalp. I sure feel the air!! LOL

I use alot of Jamaican Mango & Lime products, along w/Organic Root Stimulator products. I always enjoy watching your video. It helps alot. I'm not there yet w/the length

  • @swright1104 thank you!

  • do you retwist your locs every week after you wash them???? My hair gets really frizzy if I don't twist them after a wash so I only wash every two or three weeks. Also I don't want to over twist.

  • @bit391 I don't twist in order to maintain or loc my hair. I only do it to style. My hair is interlocked, so when I wash, the part that had been interlocked does not "unravel". I leave about an inch of my roots un-lached so that I can twist it to make my styles look pretty. I don't know if washing every week is bad for the locking process for twisted locs. But I would use a "dry" shampoo in between washes to keep your roots fresh and the buildup to a minimum.

  • great video

  • No baking soda or mayonnaise for me but everything else is great! Love the no product with the retwist.

  • LOVE THE MUSIC....O and the Hair...lol

  • love ur locs love ur videos, but i have a question. would u recommend a weekly wash for someone with long locs???? I have VERY long locs which is very hard to wash, cuz when its wet it feels like I have my 8yo kid sittin on my head lol. and I'm having a hard time getting the build up out of my locs

  • @Lyssie1002 ahh this is a good question. This is my first and only set of locs so I've never had long locs. But I would think that you would want to wash weekly, to help rid the locs of the buildup. If it gets too heavy and tiresome, then between washes you could try using an astringent or dry shampoo. This can clean your locs and scalp and it dries relatively quickly. Organic root stimulator makes one.

  • love ur locs love ur videos, but i have a question. would u recommend a weekly wash for someone with long locs???? • Girl you are the best!! Excellent Excellent video! So detailed and informative!

  • OMG what you know about that Kassav?? LOL. I absolutely love love love your videos they are so informative! Thanks

  • I like that hair style at the end. Can you do a tutorial on it?

  • @evahnsmith Please see my dreadlock style for men video, it's the same style :)

  • @new211 I put a link to it in the video.

  • Try pouring the Vinegar in a spray bottle it'll be alot easier.

  • @evahnsmith I moved at couldn't find it :( so I had to make due, but very true, it's much easier with a spray bottle.

  • This is an awesome video... Very informative. I haven't clarified in a while and it's been ages since I used the baking soda and vinegar... I will plan to do this next time :) Thanks for sharing :)

  • Very informative.... loved the music...

  • @BeautywithinSherry thank you :)

  • i remember we used to make volcanoes outta that combination, never thought i'd be using it as a hair product lol but nonetheless good stuff to know, thanks

  • @CITYBOY8980 LMAO! Well that fizz action works for you here, penetrating your locs deeper and breaking up any products so that the buildup can get out.

  • i guess i'll try adding baking soda w/my acv rinse...i'm just getting extremely lazy when it comes to my hair now! but i need to do something about some of the old/new buildup...

  • nice video i only have loc envy from 2 people and your one of them

  • @DaviGotSole Oh wow! thank you :)

  • how often do you use the acv and baking soda on your hair?

  • @TheKeyamitchell78 Once a month, or every four washes just about

  • See this is what I been looking for because I use ACV but I wanted to used baking soda and was a lil scared !!! Thanks this video is GREAT!!!

  • Great vid and very informative. Wasn't planning to wash my locks until next weekend because i washed them only last weekend, but i'm tempted to wash them tomorrow just so i can try this! Just a suggestion, maybe you can mix the baking soda with some of the vinegar and then apply it to your hair for easier distribution? Just a thought. If i'm up to it, would definitely be doing this tomorrow. :)

  • @zyonpolle Yes that's is such a better idea, and what I would normally do, but no spray bottle, means no mix :(.... Still a clean head though.

  • wowww! I am so trying this

  • kassav!!!!

  • @Chasmofmisery Zook!

  • Wouldn't it be better to ACV and clarify AFTER washing? Cuz doesn't suds cause some buildup?

I will use baking soda next time!! I always ACV rinse mines...

  • @LeslieMoniqueTV

I guess you would clarify before so that when you shampoo, the shampoo would wash away the oils and gunk thats get stripped/detached from your locks. I would like to think that clarifying after the shampoo and then just rinsing would not get the all the gunk out of the locks.

  • @LeslieMoniqueTV Like zyonpolle said, the acv both stinks hella bad and the soap is the only way to get the stuff from the inside off the outside. Clarifying soap, such as Trader Joe's and Doctor Bonner's does not cause buildup. Only conditioning soaps cause buildup like for example Pantene. I hope that helps.

  • @new211: Ok, thanks! I think I will reverse my method!!! So I ACV, shampoo, condition, correct?!

  • @LeslieMoniqueTV Exactly, and it may help to use a cream leave in conditioner or moisturizer and a bit of oil to seal the moisture in. Clarifying can leave your locs stripped, feeling dry and hard. Depending on your texture it can really help to add a bit more moisture than you normally would when you don't clarify.

  • Omg i jus discovered build up in my locs and have a hair appointment to see what can be done to get rid of them bc i try using a commb to comb it out but wasn't working and im not much of a hair person to know all the tricks so decide to go where they at least have an idea....this was heaven sent thanks much.

  • @franice01 you're welcome, good luck

  • @franice01 also try soaking your hair in a mixture of the vinegar and baking soda diluted in a basin of water. this way you'll be able to really saturate the locs if you have a lot of build up.

  • thanks for this. first time i had locs i didn't do this that often and there was a lot of buildup on the combout.
