Actually, that's a pretty good question. Most people would be wearing snowshoes even at this shallow depth (15 cm - 8 inches). I, myself, avoid the use of snowshoes at almost all costs - to me they're too "clunky" and inefficient - backcountry skis with "skins" work much better.
