I have a i7 870, 2.93 everything stock with a dp55sb, pny gtx550ti, ect, and it runs low temp. I love the i7! How is the q9550, as I have a 775 system needing an upgrade?
The Q9550 is a very decent cpu, even for today's standards. If you are talking about simple desktop use, it will be absolutely great. For gaming it can really benefit from overclocking. It almost asks for it.
I had E8400 @ 4.0 Ghz with 2000Mhz FSB and my i7 930 2.8 Ghz beat it at stock by 2x. Right now my i7 930 set at 4.2. My i7 930 at stock will beat your 4Ghz easy. Sorry bro, but this is the fact, lets cinema 4d, 3ds max custom rendering test(I will send you the model to render) and other real life tests. I will beat you at stock by a little bit and at 4.2 I will beat you 2x. However, 9550 @ 4.2Ghz still fast machine, I remember my e8400 1 year ago was very fast. I7 930 is very fast even at stock
@toutagamon can you post ur Q9550 bios setting or make a video of it? Ive been trying to OC my Q9550 to 4 ghz for months. Ur efforts will be greatly appreciated thanks in advance :)
I just benchmarked my Q9550 4GHZ vs the new Core i5 2500k. My score was 6886 - the brand new core i5 = 6650.
Why on earth have people upgraded to core i7 when they could have bought the q9550. Hardly any of the new core i7's or core i5's can match the 12mb shared cache of the Q9550.
Of course Sandy Bridge i7 is faster but i've yet to find the program that will stretch my Q9550. I know I have a legendary chip with the Q9550 - and I'm sticking with it.
I still have my Q9550 and it is a great chip indeed. At the moment I bought it, I didn't see many great differences compared to my i7 (referring to gaming here) but as time goes by, the i7's potential unfolds.
If you want you can check my Q9550 vs i7 sum up video for the differences at that time. :)
i7.860 is better than the socket 775 q9550 since it have HT and a lot faster bus. the socket is faster too, and the memory controller integrated is, so the memory will be faster.
so u saying i7 860 is slower then q9550 so should i go for i7 860 or q9550 after seeing ur clip i am more confused all are 4 core (i7 920, i7 860, q550, and i5 750 now i am hell confused which to go for help me....
@tomyloveu The Q9550 doesn't have hyper threading, so it only runs on four physical cores. The i7-860 has four physical cores, but those physical cores are hyper threaded into eight logical cores, so it will out perform the Q9550.

Thanks mate.
The C1E and Speedstep do not bring performance hit on Intel cpus. When the cpu is at load, it is always at 4Ghz. Same goes for the i7. ;)

@krasav4ik82
I don't understand the point of the challenge really. I own both these two processors and I know that my i7 is faster than my Q9550! :S
This video was supposed to show the differences of the two cpus, at about the same frequency.

Is the Core i7-860 stable at 4.1 GHz?
Usul573 1 year ago
@Usul573
It was pretty stable, but I toned it down a bit to 4.0Ghz, since it needed much less voltage.
toutagamon 1 year ago
@toutagamon
That is great.
I guess most people won't need to do that, but that is really something.
One application recommended having a dual core at 3.2 GHz. Good to know.
