This is truly one of the best albums i've ever owned i'm so glad i was a teenager when this came out. this is music that has heart the shit now a daprops to ya ys is all about the money and "catchy" est beat. this is what music is about feelings and jammin out and feeling the music. HUM was discovered by people who actully understood music an what it was about. HUM thank you for such great memories and helping me through times sadness, 4ever in your debt. much respect!!!
I saw them live at a free outdoor show. About ten thousand people showed up. They sounded just as trippy as the record. Befor that I heard their 'Stars' song on the radio and took a chance and bought the Yould Prefer an Astronaught record. It was all I listened to for weeks.
Wow, this really takes me back to when I was just 16, when I was just discovering boys and what they did to my mind...when all I did was argue with my parents which made sneaking out every night a nice adrenaline rush...very young and very stupid. haha. So listening to this with my headphones on, in my bed at night seemed to be the answer to my melancholic state. It was a memorable chapter in my life.
@jen0000 We're probably really close in age, because what you wrote perfectly describes-if you switch boys for girls-what this album meant to me back in the day...along with Siamese Dream and a few other standouts, but yeah, sad to think about those crazy times and how everything was so new and interesting, and now life has just become all too real. But hey, at least I'm still single and living it up the best I know how. Most of my friends are married with children...I think I'll wait on that.
i heard this song and i looked for the tabs and this song is really easy (depending on how long u been playing) its really easy and so is alot of thier songs so u guitar players check it out
@tornadogeddon Wow if you actually played this instead of just looking it up you would realize this is hard! So you aren't really a guitar player.....just saying! ha
@tornadogeddon I've been playing for 15 years, and there are 6 guitar tracks on this song, at least 6...so which one is it that is sooo easy to play? You don't know shit really...do you now?
I was sitting here today and for some reason that killer riff from stars popped in my head. so i listened to it after 10 years of not hearing its awesomeness and decided i wanted to hear more. i am now kicking myself in the ass for not following these guys back in the 90's. they have so much other stuff thats just as killer. this song proves it. \m/
Regardless of the MTV airplay, this is the single most underrated album of the 90's. Front to back, it's a masterpiece. No one sounded like them and no one has tried since, because they cant.
@heathy91 I'm with you, You'd Prefer... was my first HUM experience and I didn't think they could top it, but DIH is a more mature sound, and you can tell they had grown as a band and as musicians. Have you heard Electra 2000?
@robertmiller oh, agreed, I was just saying there were other bands that sounded like Hum's whole "Space Rock" trip. In fact there were several. Like I said in the post, they're not better than HUM, in fact, nowhere close, but they do have the same peddle hopping, choked/strangled cords of the same genre.
kind of ... the are splied .... no rejoin plans ... and if they do so .... they will get comercial .... and they are faded by the shadow of modest mouse and other space rock bands .... hum is the only band 100% dedicated to space rock ...
Great song! Probably my third favorite off you'd prefer an astronaut. hard to call though i would put it up with the pod and stars. Not quite a music video but thanks for posting this amazing song!
@sonofthestork You can tell that they weren't the kind of band ready for mad competition and bullshit. They just enjoy making music because of their passion,. This album is true passion and vulnerability. Love it
I will pay a really good price and/or trade the UK The Pod single with three songs for the Hum CD/single (Puppets/Aphids) if someone is willing to sell/trade it. I really need it for a "master" collection of every Hum album/single I'm trying for...
where did u hear that at!!? r they going to play at the canopy club!!? please resond! i swas them when i was in jr high and would looooooove to know when it is!!!!!????
Hum was a great band that established a unique guitar-tone. It reminds me of what the Pumpkins were doing back in the Siamese Dream days. When you heard a riff from Siamese Dream, you KNEW it was the Pumpkins. Hum was the same way. The tones they used are unique and brilliant.
oh, man, I agree, and your example is really good, I love Smashing Pumpkins too but don't feel the same with their post-mellon collie albums, well, maybe with some few tracks in Machina.
hell yes...bad ass song...ill post a how to play video of this song for guitar in a few days. along, with, stars, id like your hair long, green to me, and maybe a few more....keep a look out!!

I gave you a thumbs up, because you're right in the underratedness of this record, however, Failure sounds just like Hum.
Not better, mind you, in fact nowhere close, but the bands are very similar and started recording at the same time.
