Im going to make a database of my video game collection, i really like how the cards look but its much easier to query and sort a database. Thank you for bringing the idea to my attention!
@KieranD212 Whatever works for you. I like the physicality of the cards. Probably due to how long I've been around. When I was in High School our school computer used punch cards. :)
@cessnaace Yeah i also like the look and feel of the cards, you can just pull one out as needed but overall i find it easier to sort and search through a database. Different strokes for different folks i guess, i guess it also comes down to what you are familiar working with.
@Mr00Snake Well, the only brand of blank tape I still run into is Wal-Mart's house brand. I can usually find them priced 10 for $8. If they still make tapes, Fuji made tapes that were excellent. Maxell second place. That's just my own experience though.
I think Philips is the only company still making VCRs, and they're combination VCRs and DVD players. I have a couple myself. If other companies are still making VCRs, I don't ever see them in stores.
I used to have a vcr with thumwheel tracking adjustment. It never made sense to me why that became obsolete. No auto adjustments could ever come close to what you could do manually.
@Baseley09 I currently collect videos in the following formats: 1) VHS (I have two decks), 2) CED (no players currently), 3) LaserDisc (6 players - 3 hooked up, 2 spares, and one out on loan), 4)VCD (Most DVD players and PCs will play them), 5) UMD (I don't have a PSP yet), 6) DVD (4 hooked up, 1 backup, plus my PC will play them).
This year I will add players for 7) Blu Ray, and 8) VHD. Strong possibility of adding 9) HD-DVD, and 10) Betamax as well.
@michele11804 I prefer subtitled whenever I watch anything shot in another language. English dubs bother me usually, because the acting is usually sub-par and I prefer to hear the inflections of the original actors. But sometimes I break down and buy dubbed versions.
Whenever you start collecting blu-ray discs I strongly recommend the 'Casablanca' box set. Filled with extras and the picture has to be seen to be believed. You are awesome, Cessnaace; stay that way!
@michele11804 Thanks. Appreciate it! I plan to add the Blu Ray and VHD formats this year, which will bring the number of video formats I collect in to 9!
@michele11804 Not only that, but I'm different from eveybody else I know, and I prefer it that way. Who wants to be just like everyone else? Oh what a boring world that would be. :)
For your card system, have you considered switching to a Spreadsheet on Microsoft Excel?
Great Pickups =)
Even though VHS is discontinued, i still love the format. My family got a DVD player in 2002 and i was amazed that it was on disc. But nowadays i miss having to rewind the tape after watching it. Ah Memories =)
I went to a salvation army store today and bought about 10 LP's. Hopefully they will be good. I can't play them yet since my apartment is in disarray from renovations. The kitchen is soon finished and the entrance hall and bathroom is next.
@cessnaace Yeah, I do too! I removed a lot of scratched titles from the ones I was interested in. They had a 9 disc collection of 50's and 60's hits, from Readers Digest. Those were in very good condition, but didn't buy it since I was unsure if they were by the original artists.
@THOMASSU63 The used record shop that I go to will play any record a buyer shows any interest in, because he wants satisfied customers. And he's got them. He mentioned the other day that they were now selling vinyl records by the thousands.

@KieranD212 I use online databases (LaserDisc Database; UMD Database; DVD Aficionado), but I use the cards too.

Hey Mark, which brand do you consider the best manufacturer of VHS VCR's and Cassettes?

Just because I am anal and have to know; do you prefer dubbed or subbed, when it comes to anime?
