That is not a bass flute, it is a regular flute with a hooked head joint because he is a bit small to reach for the head. The only reason why it looks like a bass flute is because he is small, so the flute looks big. I know because I used to play flute, and I started with a hooked head because I was small too.

Jazz is a wide category, but this is definitely not jazz (basically, anything written note for note is not jazz), but some kind of weird tango. But that would be ok.

But it just don't feel right to watch such a small kid swaying in such an incredibly self-important way and neither I have the impression that this kid enjoys what he does. I think it healthier for small kids to be motivated into music by pleasure and play rather than self-importance. Or is it some kind of joke I didn't get?

@xMinuet My little brothers are both learning how to play the piano and one of them is learning the trumpet. I also played trumpet for 8 years, and to be honest, I found learning the ability to play music helps with general education. Should they be practicing eleven hours a day? No. They are children and need to be active, like you said. However, spending 30-45 minutes a day practicing an instrument will be very useful later on in life. They may fight it now, but later, they will be grateful.

A alto flute is longer and ticker than a normal flute and as you can see this is a very regular flute size wise. I know it from my knowledge playing regular and alto flute. I was in a music school for 8 years and there were about 25/30 flute students and some were little kids whom played with curve heads because being to young a full length flute would make them adapt a stretched position and difficult their technical evolution. It's just a solution, as soon as they grow a bit they change it.
