Chilling song to listen to while driving down a dark road at night (which I did curse/ bless you pandora lol!) But my question is...did he make the deal or not?? 0_o
Eminem is nothing but a sob story!!!! Honestly what this is amazing they took an old tune/ dark carnival vibe and told a story via rap its trueky amazing!!!
Everyone needs to stop actin like eminems the only white rapper. And people glorify him cuz he's a good rapper and he's white. If a black dude was spittiin ems shit it would be underground. Eminems a fuckiin gimmick these days come on now.
this is awesome! i love the incorporation of the piano... This has been around since 2007!? why am i only now hearing it! THATS the kind of rap/hip-hop i can actually get into!
Keeping it real? Don't forget rap's number 1 rule. Cash rules everything around me. Getting paid is keeping it real.
Why is this being compared to em and dre anyway? Em's story telling songs are generally not that good. Guilty conscious and Stan are the only too that stand out, and that's because they had a cool theme. Better comparison would be slick rick or eazy.
They both have clever wordplay but at different ends of the spectrum.
this is better then dre and em - why? well it aint main stream and these dudes aint doin soda or car commercials umm whats that called umm oh yeah - keepin it real
this is better then dre and em - why? well it aint main stream and these dudes aint doin soda or car commercials umm whats that called umm oh yeah - keepin it real
@vandaljmp You're a fucking retard if you think that that makes this better than Dre and Em. It's a good song but what they're doing has no impact on the music itself. Just because something isn't mainstream doesn't make it an awesome hidden gem or something.
@Smilekrieg just because something is mainstream like "i need a doctor" does not mean its making a positive impact in music, let alone real hip-hop culture...the reason artists like this never make an "impact" is because there are not enough conscious hip-hop listeners out there to appreciate this..your all too busy listening to recovery and drake..but you can have your mainstream, we live underground!
@Smilekrieg This, to a fan of real music, has done more in the form of impacting music than Eminem, Dr. Dre, Wiz Khalifa, Lil' Wayne, Drake, J. Cole....this a story NONE of those other artists can tell, and in a form of delivery unmatched by anything the mainstream has ever done.
@supercatmatt I worked with Brian at Old Bag of Nails right before they split up...I've been trying to hunt him down for a few years now. I, too, wish they were still together.
If i ever get rich... which I won't, I will fucking give them half of my income to make more music like this.... and fluid.... I fucking loved these guys.
it's a nice night for a walk, would you mind if i join you?
Do what you wanna do
Thats great cause i'm going to, and not to annoy you but see i really have to ask, what a young dude like you's doing out by the tracks? You waitin on a train?
Nah, man let me explain, i'm minding my business and maybe you should do the same. i just been a witness to someting sick and sadistic so twistily disgusting you should feel real lucky you missed it
Outstanding production. I love the story...like a good book you can't put down. The musical style is incredebly unique; kinda like "ragtime/rap"? Did you guys shoot/edit all the video? How many hours in editing...it's gotta be massive...Great job...
Great stuff! I just found you guys the other day via Pandora. "You can imagine, not the average things you'd see on acid/
My granddad bloody hovering on the speaker cabinet/
Laughing in a raspy tone covered in maggots/
That snacked on his fat to the bone, I couldn't grasp it"
Just the sound of those words spoken aloud gives this chill in your bones - these guys are master wordsmiths with a real sense of what sounds good and what sounds... chilling.
cool song though i dont see why satan has to stick out like that,he coudlve looked classy, instead of looking like he was going to tell you a story about his abusive father or brushing his teeth with a razor
HAHA that argument below is hysterical, you dudes got toooo much time. Great band, good song, average video. shoulda got me to do it boyzies... Too late now RIP.
I was lying on the beach when we had that argument. On vacation. First week off in three years. Soooo... you really know nothing about me. I work sixteen hours a day and sleep two hours a night.
if he was born 14 years after his mom was told about not letting her kid go to the tracks, then how does he know that his grandfather was floating there? he would have never seen him.
It's a song, a series of metaphors and a narrative, asshole; it's not meant to be 100% factually accurate. If Icarus had wings made of wax, how did he fly?
Reflect on that, and you'll discover the truth: You suck bunghole.
please, enlighten me to the "metaphor" that he is talking about. What metaphor is there of being told when he was 14 years old about a story about his grandfather whom he never met. What metaphor could that possibly stand for? please, you seem to know all, enlighten me, i'm willing to be taught.
But at least from my standpoint, i can't see a possible metaphor for that. Maybe you mistook metaphor for something else.
Metaphor: the concept of using words in a story to convey something not literally true, but better expressed thru allegory & representative situations that may not have actually happened (or are even possible) in actual reality.
The narrator encounters the same pitfalls of his ancestry; his grandfather was a "gamblin' man, and ramblin' man" who made many mistakes & paid for them, metaphorically speaking, w/ his soul. The narrator makes the same mistakes, despite having been given fair warning.
thats amazing, but you seem to have missed what you and myself were talking about. How is the 14 year old know what his grandfather looked like if he never had seen him. Yes the rest of it is a metaphor, that I agree with. But my comment, and the other comments are all about how he would know that.
So I'll ask again, how is the singer not knowing what his father looked like and then seeing him a metaphor of? He point is he doesn't know what the guy looks like.
This song has nothing to do with what the narrator's grandfather looks like (and makes no mention of his father, for the record; the only time anyone's father is mentioned, it's his mother's father, and therefore still his grandfather). Even in the video itself, the character representing the grandfather is wearing a mask like the character that represents the devil, as both are ubiquitously unknowable entities to our protagonist.
The only thing missing here is a cogent argument from your side.
i love how you keep trying to educate me on what the song is, but all i was saying is that there is a mistake in the lyrics / story, that he coulnd't not have known what his grandfather looked like if he wasn't born when his grandfather died.
Even in metaphors, they don't leave loop holes like that. Sure icarius wings were made of wax, but they didn't say he was flying without wings, so the wax wings become a metaphor.
"If you ever have a son, let him know that his granddad loved him, but by the time that he's grown, be sure that this seed is sown deep within his dome: Don't ever, ever walk to the train tracks alone."
"When I was a todd[ler], my mom dropped fables and stories to warn me of the dangers that were laying before me."
These imply it was passed down to the narrator by his mom. He saw his granddad hallucinating during an acid trip. There's no incongruity. I'm over this, retard. It's a fucking song.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I only mentioned a hole in the store and you took it as like i just did an unforgivable sin. He didn't know his grandfather yet knew him when he was on the speaker.
I know it is a song, and lots of songs make mistakes, i have no idea why it bothers you so much for people to point out flaws. Song is still good, just a flaw in the lyrics.
Seriously? Think outside the box just a little man. Maybe his mom had a photograph of her dad around the house? Wouldn't that be a shocker... My grandad was dead before I was born and I know exactly what he looks like... now stop trying to pick out nuances to try and sound smart and enjoy the music.
I think it's because it's not about smacking ho's and cappin cops while showing off their bling with whores. It actually has some form of coherent story.
You're lucky. I wish I had seen them before they died out. The Lab Rats will be missed dearly, by myself and many others as well. I have a feeling that they broke up over something petty, even though their website claims that they parted ways amicably.
when i first heard this song i thought it was eminem.....they have the same voice...but then i payed close attention to the lyrics and it just didn't match
Yeah, I went and bought the track on URGE right after I heard it. I don't even listen to rap all that much anymore, but this guy sounds like what eminem use to before his shit got to Gangster. To bad Em doesn't still rhyme like that.
Wow, man. This has got to be one of the SICKEST songs ever. No seriouly, i've listen to this song all the way though like 80 times in the past 24 hours. Hella sick rapping and lyrics. My friend and I saw it on a Wendy's commercial thing at the movies and looked you guys up. Can't wait to hear more.
wow, i was astonished, honestly, i -hate- rap, aside from some pac. but really, this is good. i love it :D and your getting this from a emo/punk/rocker :D
Yeah, same here. Just saw it on that Create Your Own Wendy's commercial last night and was searching for this phantom "EM" song... glad to find out who it really was!
I wish someone would post songs from the Short Order EP

Yeah, I went and bought the track on URGE right after I heard it. I don't even listen to rap all that much anymore, but this guy sounds like what eminem use to before his shit got to Gangster. To bad Em doesn't still rhyme like that.

Wow, man. This has got to be one of the SICKEST songs ever. No seriouly, i've listen to this song all the way though like 80 times in the past 24 hours. Hella sick rapping and lyrics. My friend and I saw it on a Wendy's commercial thing at the movies and looked you guys up. Can't wait to hear more.
