@TwilightGeisha is so right. There is nothing sexier than a man who can dance, or sing for that matter. I'm 16, and this is what I'm looking for in a guy. It's not "gay" to have such amazing skills as these, as so many people in my age group say.
I wonder if Rus Tamblin knew what effect he and all those with him would have on the dance world........From movies such as this there was forged a standard that inspired the future...Our NOW. Thats what makes them timeless and priceless. Such a gift to the NOW generation of dancers. Thank you summercoral819.
So great to see it in the full format and colors! Amazing movie, amazing dances! Highly professional and masculine. You do not see much of these quality now a days..Classic!
I went and saw the stage version of this in the Muny in Forest Park. St. Louis and after this number the whole audience applauded for five straight minutes. It was an amazing production!
I love the making of this flick. The guys actually argued among themselves as to who would dance in which parts and they all came together, some voluntarily sacrificing a great deal of limelight, to make this the best production they could. I suppose that is what happens when people work together. The production speaks for itself. (Benjamin - orange- rarely sings or dances - he was cast primarily for his looks. Ephraim is my favorite - green.)
@arweiss100 He is definitely something amazing - wasn't even a dancer but a tumbler (as evidenced) and didn't want to take the part due to his lack of knowledge in dancing!!! Surprising, no?
Green shirted Ephraim who barely says a word is my favorite dancer of the group. He has the smoothest balance of masculine grace as demonstrated in the shoulders and particularly the waist.
@TheClassicalVoice OMG I thought I was the only one:) He is ballet dancer Jacques D'amboise and he danced with New York Ballet Company I think. He was also in Carousel.
@vincyjb So we need to start a fan club of course. I might be mistaken but I believe he also co starred in Hans Christian Anderson with Danny Kaye when he was a kid. That was before his singing and dancing career but he actually got more than three lines!!!! I need to rewatch Carousel. Haven't seen it in years!!! Thanks for the heads up, my friend!
I think that I speak for the 26,568 that have viewed this and the 98 others that liked this that there are no dislikes *knock on wood*, because if there are any haters out there that want to I'll just let you know that you don't have a bride waiting for you or as from Howard Keel, "Yes, she's the bride for me"
One of the best movie dances EVER! The men are wonderful but also watch the skills of the women; they have to change partners at a second's notice, get thrown up onto boards (and keep their balance) and have to hurl themselves into their partners' arms (trusting they get caught!)
Whenever I need something to make me feel happy I watch this sequence.
that second who falls at 3:47... ouch! this movie is so amazing, julie newmar is a great dorcus (who is of course, my favorite because of her completely ridiculous name) they just don't make musicals like this anymore, what a shame
God, I can't tell how many times I've watched this movie when I was a kid... and I still love it! Thanks so much for posting the amazing barn dance, I think this is the best version on Youtube!
To the best of my knowledge this was NEVER on broadway.. SoIf the day comes that this will ever come to broadway..I'll be first on line to buy tickets.
Im 15 and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this movie.. I watched this as a little girl and I still LOVE IT!! I could watch over and over and over.. I think all the brothers are handsome..Best flim ever.. Wish they made movies like this today.. <3
If anyone has the VHS version of this is there anyway you could upload it the dance scene sounds so much cooler in that version I hate the Digitally remastered version.
I love this musical. However I will admit the music is a piece of work to play. We did this my senior year of high school. I ended up playing the 1st clarinet part. To time everything was insanely hard. We heard the word " one more time" too many times for this scene.
Nice, but I wish someone would post the superior Cinemascope version.
This film was shot in two formats because MGM was concerned that not all theaters had equipment to show Cinemascope, which was still in its infancy. This is the alternate 1:77:1 version. In commentary included on the DVD, Stanley Donen laments having to waste so much time and money filming this version. It was NEVER shown theatrically since, by the time of its release, all the theaters could project Cinemascope films.
I'm a 23 year old college football player...is it weird that I like this movie lol? It was one of my moms favorites when she was alive...memories!!
