As a non-American who is very interested in the complexity of the USA (and loves the country too!) I have to ask... Where can I learn of the defining factors of what constitutes a Liberal and a Conservative? Whats the difference? What side would the founding fathers have been on? Was there even 'sides' back then? Genuinely curious and looking for resources.

They are very popular and tend to hate religion (christianity in particular) and firearms. The definitions of liberal and conservative have seemed to flip over the years. Liberalism once meant small government, dictionary wise. Truth is, and I will be flamed for this, liberalism is still the less Big Government of the two. No really, I mean it. Economically, liberals need to get a clue. Where can I learn of the defining factors of what constitutes a Liberal and a Conservative? Whats the difference? What side would the founding fathers have been on? Was there even 'sides' back then? Genuinely curious and looking for resources.

Liberals desire large government, higher taxes, and believe government should assist those who make poor decisions. Our Found Fathers basically had a distrust of a national government, but knew it was necessary. There are also many graphs you can find that show how the gov expands and debt goes up under "conservative" presidents, much more so than under "liberal" ones.

It's a mental disorder because liberals want to have things both ways; they want to keep trees "for the environment" but they also want to have "alternative energy sources for the environment." In this case they have to decide, but of course they face the issue of counteracting a portion of the liberal base. The fact that liberals cannot make up their mind on what they want to do means that they must have a mental disorder, likely a learning disorder b/c they can't make consistent decisions.

The definitions of liberal and conservative have seemed to flip over the years. Liberalism once meant small government, dictionary wise. Truth is, and I will be flamed for this, liberalism is still the less Big Government of the two. No really, I mean it. Economically, liberals need to get a clue. Our (U.S) founding fathers were all LIBERALS!
Abe Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, and Franklin Roosevelt, i.e. all the presidents that historians consider GREAT were Liberals. All the WORST presidents were CONSERVATIVES.

Apparently you are not aware that the behavior and/or definition of liberalism is not the same as it was 200 years ago. Also the term takes on different meanings today in politics depending on which nation you are using that term for.

It's not liberalism that has changed but the people in need of liberation. Many white "American" males who benefitted from liberalism themselves turned conservative when it came to blacks and women, etc.
But we liberals who inherited the spirit of our founding fathers, and of the champions of blacks in Lincoln's day, working people & women in Roosevelts' day and are now fighting you conservatives who want to continue oppressing gays and/or women unwillingly pregnant, etc.

Propaganda's right! Reagan (in his early years) was a liberal (as is "chic" among actors & some celebrities). He was very conservative during his presidency though. Ironically, he was against McCarthy(during the communist era), but a hardliner towards Russia/China. Nixon, who was a McCarthy supporter, was actually more influential/friendly in establishing relations w/China.
