I actually agree with stopping people 'sharing' and illegally downloading music. It's killing the industry and soon there won't be any smaller bands because they literally won't be able to afford to even go into the studio. Anything past that though, like blocking copyrighted material on Youtube or social media, I'm obviously against.
YouTube and countless other sites do let smaller bands with talent be heard by a large audience, the fact is, loads of people are trying to "get big" but very few actually have talent.
While I can see you're point, I know people who have gone to a studio, recorded they're stuff and they produced an amazing album themselves.
Record labels are a problem as they inflate the price of music so they can take a majority cut. The music industry is broken in my opinion.
@TheBlueFlex I know Youtube do, the amount of bands that I've heard through YT is ridiculous, and it's led me to buy their albums. Recording is extremely expensive, and while music shouldn't be about money, unfortunately, you need money to record, tour and live. It's a job, which you should get paid for, and downloads are destroying that. There are smaller independent labels which aren't so money grubbing, but also need money to run. In a non capitalistic system, I'd agree with free sharing.

However due to internet he can do the same to 2000 people, in other words, even if 50% of them hear his music illegal, he can still sell a lot more than before. ACTA is not the correct solution. Blocking sites like Youtube, Facebook, Twitter etc. will lead to sharp reduction of the revenues of the music-movie industry-not increase. This because when a new movie or CD is released is getting promoted through these sites. Also if we don't have access to our favorite sites-no reason for having an internet connection. ACTA will bring the world back to the age of 1990 when the communication was unidirectional and was no way of promoting something we created.

I actually agree with stopping people 'sharing' and illegally downloading music. It's killing the industry and soon there won't be any smaller bands because they literally won't be able to afford to even go into the studio. Anything past that though, like blocking copyrighted material on Youtube or social media, I'm obviously against.

YouTube and countless other sites do let smaller bands with talent be heard by a large audience, the fact is, loads of people are trying to "get big" but very few actually have talent.
While I can see you're point, I know people who have gone to a studio, recorded they're stuff and they produced an amazing album themselves.
Record labels are a problem as they inflate the price of music so they can take a majority cut. The music industry is broken in my opinion.

@TheBlueFlex I know Youtube do, the amount of bands that I've heard through YT is ridiculous, and it's led me to buy their albums. Recording is extremely expensive, and while music shouldn't be about money, unfortunately, you need money to record, tour and live. It's a job, which you should get paid for, and downloads are destroying that. There are smaller independent labels which aren't so money grubbing, but also need money to run. In a non capitalistic system, I'd agree with free sharing.

However due to internet he can do the same to 2000 people, in other words, even if 50% of them hear his music illegal, he can still sell a lot more than before. The only ones really suffering are the greedy people who want 2 private jets instead of one. Of course i have even more points, but youtube letter limit is stoppin..

@Ine7tia But the thing is, the ONLY reason why it is illegal in the first place, is because of an out-dated law. Like i said, that "copying/sharing"(it's not stealing, as the original owner still got his own copy) is a double sided sword, while it may seem like a bad thing at first, it makes up for it by a LOT of good, more so than the bad. It's like a "robin hood method" haha. Instead of preventing it, we should use it for the greater good,which a lot of people and websites already do.

ACTA is not the correct solution. Blocking sites like Youtube, Facebook, Twitter etc. will lead to sharp reduction of the revenues of the music-movie industry-not increase. This because when a new movie or CD is released is getting promoted through these sites. Also if we don't have access to our favorite sites-no reason for having an internet connection. ACTA will bring the world back to the age of 1990 when the communication was unidirectional and was no way of promoting something we created.

I think one thing that needs to be explained to congress and anyone else that tries to pass/write these sorts of things is this: the very way the internet works is by copying data from one server to another repeatedly and finally to your computer. Those who would write these agreements wish for none of this copying to ever happen, which is obviously completely impossible.
