While the day stages are better than the night stages in my opinion, the day stages are very much lacking in platforming. The day stages eventually get boring because they are simply boosting in a straight line. Sonic Generations is downloading to my PC right now. I will comment my thoughts on the modern stages when I play.
Fact of the matter is no matter how much open space you put into the game the level has to move forward platformer's are still point a to b even if you do put in mutipull diffrent paths both sonic and mario was like this in the old school days and this should be put well into 3D generations does that but offers nothing new in term's how the game functions and offers no challeng to the more experienced player i spent 4days getting 100% not because it was fun because it was easy
@SoleannaAngela Well as a whole, I just found this a lot more enjoyable than the daytime stages because it has greater replay value. Yeah, it's not THAT hard, but I'd like to think the designers were more or less testing the waters. The sad fact is most people who play games like this just can't get the hang of it. Even though the designs in this game are very good, I think they could be fleshed out even more, if more people were willing to accept this instead of settling for SU.
Generations as a whole was very underwhelming to me i have played sonic since 1994 with all the classic title's for me unleashed gave us the style of gameplay the really fit a modern style sonic game it just lacked platforming in the main stage's generations had the platforming but all the level's felt incredibly short and very very easy most of them even easyer than there original level's this is bad a game should get harder as the level's go and with only 9 none of them are

@SoleannaAngela (if having the game mechanics and tools) would have tried to create a 3d adventure with platforming and speed. its a real shame they couldnt do that back in 1991 it would have probably made the perfect game. cos that seems to be the only time when sega could get it right! mix speed with platforming. the only downside ofcourse. @SoleannaAngela It isn't just the platforming. To reflect the classics, a Sonic game should have platforming, lots of room and places to explore, AND speed, so it's consistently fast paced. It should give the player things to interact with and unique ways to traverse and keep it fresh. For the most part, Generations does just that, so I do find it to be a significant improvement over this, which gives you little to do and traps you within a few intersecting lines.

The daytime stages are underwhelming because they feel like a long series of minigames and NOTHING like the classics, while Generations feels more like a real game, and more like them. Personally, I think Crisis City is considerably more challenging than Rooftop Run in either game, though a lot of its challenge comes from all the lava and bottomless pits. I really don't see how the classics were much harder, to be honest.
@SoleannaAngela Why do people keep using the "it's too short, that makes it not as good" argument? It may be shorter, yeah, but it has a lot more content and actual GAMEPLAY. I fail to see how simply scooting to the right and left to dodge oncoming spikes or whatever is "challenging", especially since I have Unleashed. The new Spagonia gives you SO much more to have fun with on your way to the goal, not all these needlessly linear roads an' whatnot.
And don't give me that crap about Gens having "too much 2D". The modern stages focus on 3D gameplay, and most of the 2D areas are over in a few seconds. There aren't even a lot of them. Heck, City Escape has only one 2D section, and most of the 3D sections last so long, it's easy to forget you're not just playing a 3D Sonic game. It's not 50% 3D and 50% 2D, more like 70% 3D and 30% 2D AT MOST. Most of the time, it doesn't even feel like the 2D sections eat up that much of the modern gameplay.
Generations is SO much better than SU. Let's just throw out the werehog stages for a moment and pretend the daytime stages are all that's there, hm? The modern stages in Generations completely blow these stages out of the water. They have lots of cool 3D platforming, lots of wide open spaces to roam around in and overall, it just feels more like a true Sonic game. This is like being trapped in an empty string of narrow linear corridors where all you can do is careen forward and WATCH Sonic run.

And of course Gameplay Elements differ & storywise too. Sure it can be crazier than Generations though it couldn't succeeded half-way due to "Werehog" Levels getting in the way.

You're not given much to actually play with, and it feels more like you're just watching Sonic run and not really making him do anything. generations actually requires a LOT more interaction and player input, so I found myself more invested in it and found it more thrilling and genuinely challenging.

@supersonicdrawer No, you've got it wrong. The classic gameplay isn't "slow" and it SHOULDN'T be. Platforming does not need to be slow, and there is no clear cut line between platforming and speed. It's possible to mix the two, which is much more innovative and complex, which is what they did with both classic and modern gameplay. The modern gameplay doesn't need to be any faster than it already is, because it IS fast paced.

@NickonAquaMagna2 Well, I know for me that I mostly love the daytime levels because I'm a HUGE F-Zero fan. And Unleashed manages to keep that same thrill I get from F-Zero: Moving at high speeds, obstacles everywhere, and so on. Not to mention it is extremely satisfying to pull off a flawless run in this game. I also don't hold most franchises to doing one thing.. Doesn't matter if Sonic is a fast paced platformer, if it's a fun game in it's own right I won't complain.

I love this stage so much. They tried to do something similar in Sonic Generations but the this one is the REAL DEAL. I wish I could have this stage right here, but with Sonic Generations physics and gameplay. Sonic Unleashed controls sucks and its a pay to get used to. When you're speeding you can't see shit. In Generations they fixed those problems.
@Batsanes Not EVERYTHING of Sonic should be like this. Using this over and over gets repetitive. What made Unleashed so epic is using this AND the Werehog to give a lot of variety. Both had a lot of positives (great speed, great combat and platforming) and switching between them meant neither got old for very long, or old at all. But using JUST this for Sonic games alone is BS. Sonic is not, and never was solely about speed.
Sonic unleashed day stages gave sonic the true sense of speed I havnt seen from him in a very long time. Other than the werehog crap, this game was the base for even better next gen sonic games.

@kidd007LIghtning because the controls are apparently tighter and the the were hog stages are a bit better. but in the end it really is just personal preference cause i own the wii version(love playing it XD) but i still want the Xbox/Ps3 version because it has more daytime then nightime stages (not that i don't like werehog sonic but day is always better then the night if you know what i mean)

You're not given much to actually play with, and it feels more like you're just watching Sonic run and not really making him do anything. generations actually requires a LOT more interaction and player input, so I found myself more invested in it and found it more thrilling and genuinely challenging.

You can't just have speed speed and more speed with a teensy, barely noticeable speck of platforming lightly sprinkled here and there. @supersonicdrawer No, you've got it wrong. The classic gameplay isn't "slow" and it SHOULDN'T be. Platforming does not need to be slow, and there is no clear cut line between platforming and speed. It's possible to mix the two, which is much more innovative and complex, which is what they did with both classic and modern gameplay. The modern gameplay doesn't need to be any faster than it already is, because it IS fast paced.

@NickonAquaMagna2 Well, I know for me that I mostly love the daytime levels because I'm a HUGE F-Zero fan. And Unleashed manages to keep that same thrill I get from F-Zero: Moving at high speeds, obstacles everywhere, and so on. Not to mention it is extremely satisfying to pull off a flawless run in this game. I also don't hold most franchises to doing one thing.. Doesn't matter if Sonic is a fast paced platformer, if it's a fun game in it's own right I won't complain.

I love this stage so much. They tried to do something similar in Sonic Generations but the this one is the REAL DEAL. I wish I could have this stage right here, but with Sonic Generations physics and gameplay. Sonic Unleashed controls sucks and its a pay to get used to. When you're speeding you can't see shit. @Batsanes Not EVERYTHING of Sonic should be like this. Using this over and over gets repetitive. What made Unleashed so epic is using this AND the Werehog to give a lot of variety. Both had a lot of positives (great speed, great combat and platforming) and switching between them meant neither got old for very long, or old at all. But using JUST this for Sonic games alone is BS. Sonic is not, and never was solely about speed.

@kidd007LIghtning because the controls are apparently tighter and the the were hog stages are a bit better. but in the end it really is just personal preference cause i own the wii version(love playing it XD) but i still want the Xbox/Ps3 version because it has more daytime then nightime stages (not that i don't like werehog sonic but day is always better then the night if you know what i mean)

You mean I can play this Level without those Werehog Levels? It's like they're making all the Levels Epic in Sonic Generations.
This is a good City Track for Generations without the Werehog Levels in the way.
