I used to read and research hemp production regularly back in the day (about 10-15 years ago). I used to address, legalization and decriminalization with everyone and anyone. if drugs were made legal our prison population would be reduced more than 70%. less prisoners = less need for prisons, prison gaurds, police. it would take a huge chunk of business away from not only the prison-industrial complex(modern day slavery/human commodities),but also the judicial system, law enforcement, and would even take some legislative power away from our politicians. above of all it would give them less reason to tax us. our authoritarian state would lose legitamacy and power

Yeah, in the vid I was referencing the millions of acres of trees knocked down by hurricane Katrina which as they decompose release copious amounts of co2. Instead of replanting tree farms we could be planting faster growing and more environmentally friendly hemp if it weren't for the ridiculous prohibition.
Getting high should no more be a political issue than having a drink. Drug laws are a tool of oppression.

When I look at US politics, I agree that there are some practices I'd characterise as shady. But I disagree that this applies in other countries. Specifically, I live in Australia, and we don't have this "in bed with politicians" thing that Americans seem to have going. It's for this reason I'm skeptical of the claim that it's the fault of capitalism (or, Keynesianism, or Neo-Classicalism), as opposed to your specific political system.

I stand by my comments above. Given that capitalism separates politics from commerce, I see political tinkering in commerce as being the fault of the political system, not the economic system.
So, if political parties were supported by the fiscal budget and politicians not allowed to sit on boards or own shares, that would be more helpful in stopping these abuses.

Industrial hemp is an ecologically sound alternative to petro chemicals. The seeds can produce oil the stalks fiber for textiles and building materials. It is not the entire solution but it could be a huge part of one if the ridiculous police state racist prohibition was lifted. I am all growed up.

Let's assume the pharmaceutical, petrochemical, cotton, paper and textile industries have lobbyists with some power in Washington and that industrial hemp could severely cut into their profits, which way do you think they are pushing? Marijuana (the drug) is basically free, you can grow it in your backyard, hence untaxable.

Marijuana is difficult and time consuming to grow yourself and it would not be worth it, if you could simply buy some at the gas station down the street. At least 95% of it would be sold in stores, hence taxable. Also, marijuana wouldnt cut into the profits of the other companies, so it makes your conspiracy a little unfounded.

You have completely missed the point. First, hemp and marijuana are the same plant. The purpose of the ban was to stop industrial hemp from competing with the above named industries. They were instrumental in passing the legislation and in instituting a fantasy propaganda campaign about reefer madness. Read the comments if you would like more details or Google it yourself. The facts are quite public. In other words pot is illegal in order to ban hemp.

Simple, pulpwood can only be turned into paper using petrochemicals. This was invented by Texaco and Dupont which is why they succesfully got weed outlawed. All paper was made from hemp back in the day. Our recent warring has been to procure oil. Relegalize hemp and we won't need oil.
