  • Meg is so sweet though. :)

But, honestly, I like Velvet Underground's version better...the original version.

    :P

  • I like it, it's cute

  • this is very sweet :)

  • For all of you doggin' meg; have you ever heard Nico???

  • @hiddentreasure73 Nico dont sing After Hours ... is Maureen, the drummer

  • @ChinoxSerox You are right but this isn't a White Stripes song it's a Velvet Underground song *1969 you should check out the original :-)

  • @hiddentreasure73 What does this song have to do with Nico? Maureen Tucker sang it. And - if it's really the White Stripes - you can also hear that Meg is quite nervous, she's not used to singing at that point, I think. It's more of a cute joke to end the show with, than a serious performance.

  • @hiddentreasure73 Yes, and I've heard Mo, who sang this song originally.

  • This is why I miss charming Meg

  • Terrible version.

  • The fact that strikes me the most is that she KNOWS she's a terrible singer, and it probably took lots, lots and lots of pressure from Jack to make her sing on stage - not that she doesn't enjoy it.

  • My this is horrible haha

  • It sounds like shit. That's why I love it. It's goddamn Meg, come on. Her laughs at the end kill me XD

  • this actually is pretty cute, we can hear her smiling

  • Not autotuned..... Enought said.

  • @leep90 that's dumb..not everything auto-tuned is bad and not everything that isn't is good

  • @10ccalanarkush thank you captain obvious. facetious.... look it up... it will help you be happy the rest of your life.

  • @leep90 that's a handy excuse, isn't it? there's hardly any evidence to indicate that it was in fact facetious. Arguably, that's the most non-facetious statement i'll read this year.

  • @10ccalanarkush oh darn, you wrote back and.... you forgot to read the definition

  • cute and bad

  • this song is better out of tune..

  • awesome

  • i love u meg...but stick to drums

  • ouch

  • Ever since I've heard "In the Cold, Cold Night," I thought her voice reminded me of Maureen Tuckers, a kind of innocent beauty to it. Go Meg!

  • Pass me the earplugs.

  • i'm sorry but the girl singing this beautiful song sings horrible. also the original. i dont get it. why doesnt anyone notice it too?

  • @heretopartyx3 you can't say meg sings horrible dear. everyone messes up, and she like never sings.. she was probably nervous and this was live.

  • :) this reminds me of my gabby, I love her voice so much

  • This is such an innocent and pure song by The Velvet Underground. This cover does Meg justice despite the laughter.

  • listen to the VU original... she's botching the key on purpose, just like mo tucker did

  • @ManEaterBrainBug I've heard Meg sing... It sounds exactly like her.

  • she had to b/c Velvet Underground's girl drummer sang it OG.

  • love the white stripes and love this song but this versions fucking awful

    what is she doing

  • I love megs voice.

  • cannot listening it. completly out of sound. and she's so stressed.

  • GROSS

  • Comment removed

  • I heard that Meg's presence in the White Stripes was a concession in the original divorce settlement.

  • I like The White Stripes...but I think VU's version has more soul behind it.

  • love meg, love the song,

    but this is pants lol

  • LOL@wikipedia and "facts"

  • she sing out of tune!

  • @MattkNT That's part of the innocent charm, you obviously aren't mature enough to appreciate the beauty of a song like this, so don't listen to it, go listen to some Metallica or something

  • @IWasBored12 rape is innocent charm, jfk's assassination was innocent charm, charlie chaplin doing heroin was innocent charm, homeless people masturbating in train stations in innocent charm

    fuck you cutty

    innocent charm is bullshit

  • @niddyd You're full of bullshit, your immature, naive, nihilism would be amusing if it wasn't so stupid. Music isn't about singing on key or solo's or any of that, it's about feeling, if you don't understand that, you will never understand music.

  • @IWasBored12 and yet we're arguing this over a band that is what the radios would call a "modern rock" staple, because jack white doesn't wank bullshit solos ever....

but yeah i don't understand music, thus it gives me an innocent (or ignorant) charm

  • @IWasBored12 i think music IS about singing in key..its kinda important

  • @rebelwithoutapause25 almost important as turn on your amp

  • Comment removed

  • @MattkNT yay! someone else noticed it, its really disturbing how anybody says nothing about the fact she's singing completly out of tune!

  • @heretopartyx3

It's her first time, bro. Shit, give the gal a break. It sounds beautiful, in tune or not. When music becomes based on having everything perfect and in-tune, that's the day creativity dies.

  • She was the drummer/percussionist for the band for the majority of it's tenure from 1965-1971.(Although she did not drum on the "Loaded" album due to her pregnancy). Nico WAS an official member of the band, albeit briefly from 1966-1967. She sang several songs on their debut, "The Velvet Underground and Nico", but she made no other studio recordings with the band besides those. I think thats everything, reply if you have more questions.

  • I wouldn't say Nico was an official member of the band. More of a guest or a kind of glamour Wharol-esque touch to the first album.

Also, this version of Afterhour sucks balls.

  • Alright, nobody seems to have their facts right so i will explain as much as i can. I have read several biographies so these are not wikipedia facts. Maureen Tucker sang this song as the closing track of VU's third self titled album released in 1969. This song and "I'm sticking with you"(Recorded in 1969 but unreleased untill 1985 on "VU") are the only studio songs that tucker sings on, besides "the murder Mystery" which the whole band sings on. Continuing to next comment.

  • Our cover was a lot better

  • love it! goooooooooo meg! <3

  • STOP..murdering this song.

  • ugh dreadful

  • my bad everyone seems to think all these differant people sang this song originally when it was mo tucker. this isnt a wiki fact, its a fact. mo tucker was one of the original mebers of the vu and got kicked out for nico i'm just informing supposed fans(posers) my apologizes

  • this song was originally performed by mo tucker when she was part of the velvet underground (before nico)

  • thanks for the wikipedia fact dumbshit

  • i wish i could hear lou reed sing it

  • argh my poor ears!

  • If they weren't the white stripes people would be like

wtf? this sucks... but they're the white stripes so it sounds good

    i guess

  • Well, yeah Nico did it better, but the song is decent enough and of course fans are going to be more forgiving of Meg, especially considering that it's something new.

  • i love her singing its so cool :)

  • you can tell she's nervous..you can even hear her chuckle before and during the song. she's obviously not taking herself seriously..i think it's kinda cute/funny, lol.

  • As a singer...she's a hell of a drummer!

  • This is why she's a drummer.

  • Meg sounds more like Nico.

  • she sounds nothing like nico

  • this is the way this song has to be sung. the vocals have to be imperfect, its what makes it cute. i mean, moe tucker's vox was far from perfect, but for that song they were perfect.

  • disagree. the original's vocals were perfect, not out of tune. just a weird intonation.

  • Well, I don't think it was THAT bad :) It's just funny, maybe because it's always fun to hear Meg singing, but I guess I wouldn't stand a whole concert with her on the vocals.

  • haha love the fuck up at the end. me and a friend are doing this song at a gig soon, so it was nice to hear the fuck up to show that we're all human :D.

Still she was a bit out tune, but still good effort. It hard to sing when your not a singer.

  • good vibes nice energy great effort =)

  • this is kinda funny.

    i can see she's a little nervous about it:D

it doesn't matter if is a good cover or not, she did it to remind us that velvet underground did once a very special song:D

    she's cute:)

  • this kind of horrible

  • it's not bad and not good either, it's just hilarious ^^ gotta love those Stripes :)

  • man the original is so much better. that was super flat. but dont get me wrong I do love the whitestripes

  • roooooooooock!

  • hey guys obviously meg isnt primarily a singer...who cares whether or not it is in tune or pitch...im sure it was a spur of the moment live show thing as most white stripes line-ups are

  • Oh and also, the only ones denying that this is bad obviously can't tell what is in-tune and out of tune singing, which I find nearly as sad as this cover.

  • Ah, I dont like the key they put this song in. And Meg seems to sound out of tune. I love the Velvet Underground and the White Stripes, but this was just a bad cover.

  • Oh my god I totally agree with you, I love both bands but wow Meg is amazingly out of tune.

Very unfortunate cover, I couldn't bare to listen to the whole if it even.

  • good performance :)

    i love them

  • The Velvet Underground version is superior, but thats really cool the White Stripes admit this song rocks.

    Nice upload host.

  • haha

    i love that song

    meg did a good job

  • meg is god

who think that she is bad,

    fck yourself

    she is more than perfect!!

  • Go Meg :) Although I feel almost bad listening to this as I know that she asked that the bootleg not be availiable as she is very self contious about it...but its just too lovely to pass up, and I think she has nothing to feel self contious about :)

    Simply wonderful :)

  • thank you so much for posting.

  • wow this is amazing. i love you meg. this is so cool.wow.your great meg . wow. i love you meg

  • i love her!!!

  • Go Meg!
