  • A lady that shoots lasers out of her nipples. Nice...

  • I have a few questions:

1.Are there any real physics in the game?

2.Are the levels saved and loaded from a specific format you came up with?

3.If so, what format did you come up with?

4.How are your collisions done? Before or after collisions would happen?

    5.Is there a level editor?

    6.How long did it take?

  • @bennettbugs 1. No, not really. Nothing like A(t) = -9.8 m/s^2; It's mainly a basic Y velocity that is changed each game cycle so that she goes up... and then comes down.

    2. Yes, this is using a crappy old map file format I had made with my first map editor. They're saved as .txt files (though I can rename the suffix to anything) and load them into the games, so they're easy to swap out.

    3. The format was just a grid of numbers, with the #'s denoting the image code to use

  • @bennettbugs 4. I check collision prior to moving; something like (if collision( block, where player will be if she moves) ) then collision.

    5. Yes, I wrote a level editor called "MusuGo", but it's old, ugly, and bad. I need to make a new one when I have time, and I'd also use a different map format.

    6. I'm not sure, it took less than a month for this specifically, but the code is also ugly. I've found that when you structure to make things more maintainable, it takes longer, but worth it

  • que bosta de juego, no tiene nada de retro tampoco, me espanta esta porqueria, estoy seguro que podria haber tenido mas pero salio demasiado temprano, una lastima.

A ver si alguna vez aprenden a escribir en castellano.

    voto en contra.

  • I remember Kikoskia playing this at one point.

  • @Maverynthia Yeah...

  • You're pretty talented considering you code AND sprite your own games. I can't draw sprites or much else well at all. :/

  • This game ROCKS! Love it!

  • This is cool, maybe I should actually make a workable game, great job.

  • That's great, how many games have you created? Also, is it hard for you to make them?

  • @sirdeadandbreakfast Depends on what's considered hard, I guess. @_@ I have all my games on my website, I have 15 of my own solo projects on there and 2 collabs. o.o;

  • haha you're right, I've been wanting to get into video game programming, but I'm just a beginner(don't know anything), any words of wisdom? I would greatly appreciate it. Also I just bought a c++ beginner's book, but I don't know if that is the right place to start. =)

  • @sirdeadandbreakfast Well, I have a written (and soon video) tutorial on where to begin on my website, easier to explain in a document than a comment.

  • how long did it take you to understand how to use c++?

  • I guess like four-ish years? But this is also with college taking up most of my free time during the semesters. D:

I have another video called "My Game Development Evolution" that kind of shows my time-line

    watch?v=myWVSbnm5SQ

  • Did you do the game all on your own? It looks fun, I'd definately play it. =)

  • Amazing you should make a kirby style game =))

  • hmmmm....

  • are all the sprites and tiles original art? =]

  • Yep, sprites, tiles and music are 100% by me.

  • kool :D the music's awesome

  • thats pretty cool

  • I would seriously recommend that you try get a job with major gaming companies. great job.

  • I know some people use it. It should be alright, but it feels more like a drawing program to me than a spriting program.

You might check out Graphics Gale; it's made for spriting and even animates the sprites as you draw.

  • me thinkks you replied to the wrong person :P lol

  • Ack, dunno how that happened. o_o

  • whoa people still use allegro?

  • thats a DAMN nice job Lusikka!! keep up the good work and im a huge fan of ElysianShadows and i love you artwork!!

  • what kind of program do you use?

  • Windows XP.

  • -_-

  • question what program do you use for your art? it looks like gimp art but i would like to know

  • The title screen was drawn with Flash, and then the in-game art was done with Paint Shop Pro.

I do use gimp sometimes, but not usually for game art.

  • is gimp ok for making sprites?

  • nah

  • I so need to hurry up and learn how to program great game btw

  • This is excellent,nice job

  • that ball is from SMB 2 ? (that mario who catch veggies on the ground...)

  • All the graphics are original.

  • Congratulations, this game is so awesome.

I'm programming one rpg to my psp ^^.

But i need learn a lot...

  • u are my kind of girl, and a fellow deviant i see!

  • Awesome, you did a wonderful job!

  • Holy shit. I've found my dream woman. This video game bitch shoots fucking lasers, goes out of her way to balance balls on her head, and can jump three times her height. Now that's what I want in a woman!

  • Don't stand so close to the laser.

  • really cool looking game. i love programming :)

  • How do i make a basic platform game in Cpp, and what graphics library do you use?(probably openGL?) :P

  • For this game I used Allegro. I would suggest either this or SDL to start out with, become comfortable with graphics and input, then you can start learning theory for making a platformer.

I do have a little tutorial on making a platformer and it covers up to collision detection / gravity, but it's incomplete.

  • Thanks! :P

  • Very good!

  • May I use your maps as a base to build new maps(games)?

  • The actual maps I built for this game? You can but you have to give me credit. o.o

You can use my map editor for anything you want, and I don't need credit for you using it or anything, as long as you don't claim the map editor as your own.

  • Cool, thanks and I'll stop bothering you know lol.

  • Also, would you mind if I put my own art in your editor? If not I completely understand and could you maybe make a tutorial on how to build one, just a basic one. Thanks much!

  • You can pretty much do whatever you wish with my map editor and games besides take credit for what you haven't coded yourself. :)

  • Yeah, I have Flash CS3 and PhotoShop CS3? Will those work, O and I can get Paint Shop Pro also.

  • Hey, sorry I'm asking so many questions, but I'm 14 and really and trying to start game making early because I love it with a passion. Anyway, I was wondering, what programs do you use for your graphics?

  • I use paint shop pro 6 for my pixel art because it was given to me as a gift years ago. :P

Any program would work fine, but make sure it has layers (ala MS Paint isn't the best choice)

Sometimes I use Flash 4.0 to draw sprites, like in Daphne in Space. Have to edit them in paint shop pro though

  • Wow :U , really nice :3 , really like the neck-lazor :D

  • hahahaha

    Thanks! Coder oversight. :D

  • OMG I NEED THE SOURCE CODE!

  • Lol, I'm American, but I am more into game graphics and design. I'm do want to learn all of the programming too though, or most of it. So I think I'll try to work on C++ and C#, and focus on Blitzplus also. Not all at once though. Thanks for your help, I'll look at your tutorials to help me also! =)

  • Cool, i'm starting game making by learning a program language called blitzbasic. Do you think I should forget about other languages and learn C++ and C# first? What language do you recommend for a beginner to start at. Thanks in advance!

  • It really really depends on if you love designing or love programming more. I think I would suggest learning C++ or C# as a first language if you want to be a coder, but if you're more into design blitz, MMF, and such things are fine. (tons of indie people are using MMF and BlitzBasic these days, like the maker of Knytt or Mondo Medicals)

  • Hey, I was wondering... what do you usually write your games in? C++?

  • Yep. Almost all of my games are in C++ with the Allegro library.

  • really nice! youre talented! :D

  • Good work Rachel... makes me want to play Commander Keen.

  • Commander Keen is awesome. :3 I bought the entire iD pack on steam so now I have all the eps.

  • How did you make the gun and jump noise?

  • Gun was off of the keyboard, so I guess not technically original.

    Jump noise was my throat. o.0;

  • another beautiful game lusikka :D guess what?!? i have a pc now :D finally lol and i have a few allego books coming so i willtry to have a half decent game out by the end of this summer i will prolly just have have a few bad ones out though

  • Looking pretty smexy, I think I need to find a friend who wants to make me graphics and sounds :P

You'r just a big ball of tallent now aren't you :O

    Haha, keep it up.

  • I'll make music for your project if you want.

  • Sorry I posted in the wrong section. Dooobs, I can make the music for your project if you want. Lusikka, I'm also interested in joining your large scale project. Please let me know who to contact.

  • Looks really great!

  • I was about to say "wow how do you do it...it sounds like you were playing on a keyboard in real time" I wanted to know your MIDI trick of minitating a rather live performance. I guess it WAS live, so that answers the question. I've worked a bit on MIDI tricks and I think my MIDI is more lifelike now. Please let me know when you find some useful tips.

  • Can you please send me the music :o

  • What I meant was, the MIDI files.

  • Sry, since I don't have any decent midi software, I recorded the music straight from my keyboard, so you can only get the wave files included with the game. :P

There's no sheet music, either, since I kind of played randomly until it sounded okay.

  • Heh- you can keep playing after you die and the game over text comes up. Or at least, you can keep generating jumping and shooting noises.

Its pretty fun altogether. I look forward to moar!

  • Amazing Rachel. The game is really cool. I like it.

This is your first platform game I guess, right?

  • Not really. I guess it's my first completed one (Besides the Nonhuman fan game, which this is a more polished version of). The first program I did in allegro was to be a platformer but I couldn't figure out screen scrolling, heh.

  • WOW, cool game. I'm happy its not that creepy game again. LOL.

  • That was crazy. But it was a good crazy. Laser beams, nice.

  • You could have given her jumping sprite. :P

Very nice and cute sprites. I like 'em. :3

  • Yeah, I was lazy and dug up those "old" Public Domain RPG-esque sprites I drew a few weeks ago. Same with tiles. I had drawn a public domain ninja, but I didn't want a ninja game. o_O

'tis what I get for being lazy. :D

  • awsome game again good. plus I liked the graphics and music

  • Because the video/CamStudio lags horribly if I record it at 640x480

  • Oh, and if you didn't actually bother to watch the entire video, it does have actual gameplay footage, but the game is running at 320x240.

Just thought you might be interested. :)

  • Are you shooting blood clots? =D

    Another great game, Rachel!

  • Nevermind I see it, they're like half armadillo half plankton!

  • hehe. I didn't really know what to draw that'd be flying around the world wreaking passive havoc.

  • i like the music :)

  • very nicely done :-)

you certainly have a knack for textures and sprites, and you're programming isnt too shabby either!

keep up the good work, because each new project will be an accomplishment for you no matter how big or small.

    keep it up!

  • Loving the collision detection ;-P

  • I can't tell if you're being sarcastic. ;P

  • sorry ;-P I'm British, so everything I say is sarcastic....

Game looks good, you're really quick at putting together good looking graphics. It's got a real NES/SNES look to it. And that's a good thing.

  • wow i want to download this game :]

  • The link is in the description. :)

  • Very cool, Lusikka. Did you also do the music?

  • Aye, and I apologize on how bad it is. XD

I was just trying to do simple stuff so the game would have original background music.

  • The music is great, in my opinion. It really caught my attention.

  • Fantastic.

  • wow that is cool i need to stop slackassing and get back to learning C++ and allegro

  • Hey, says movie not available! =/

  • Cool

  • Very nice.
