in fact lapu lapu was not welcomed at all by surounding islands tribes- that day around 2 thousand of lapu lapus warriors defeated 50 spaniards but his offsprings paid the price when miguel lopez de legazpi short years after that returned to the philippines and whiped out the complete bloodline of lapu lapu- research and find out its proved that since then there was no offspring left that goes back to lapu lapu- the evil paid its price and legaspi laid the foundation of fort san pedro de cebu
@Mr19pedro78 Stop believing in Pigafetta's lies. Better research first the Cronicles of the Filipinos published by the Spanish in the 16th century. In their census conducted in 1582, the island of Cebu had only a total population of 3500 Indians, while Mactan island had 300. Lapu lapu will never be able to gather that so called 1500 warriors IN 1521. One thing is for sure, Magellan is FOREVER Lapu-lapu's BITCH!!!! ROFL!
none of u guys know what all this was about- most of u know the side of view that the americans gave u to gain hatred against spain to achieve the american colonial period- datu zula that time was the princes of cebu and she asked the spaniards to do a favor fighting against lapu lapu called chieftain pulaku cause him and his band threatned surounding islands tribes cause he treated them like a barbarian- in fact he was muslim and pintado not even from mactan but suspected to be waray
@isitnext2ucolin Well, does everybody agree on that? I think Lapu-Lapu was kinda okay, trying to defend The Philipines against the nasty catholics!: )
@RafaelMinuesa to make this imaginable let us go to Spain. We all know Spain have an Islamic past. It has been under Muslim rule for more than 700 years. Now why would Spain not revive the Islamic past?? Its because Spain was done with her dark past. She wants to break free. And reviving the Islamic culture would simply feel confined to the past. Had Spain continue to be attached to the culture of its former masters she wouldn't have the same rich unique Spanish taste she have right now.
Spain has an Arab past, but far from the kind of extremist Islamic past you're thinking about.
Spain, for example, was the only place in the Islamic World to allow alcohol drinking, there is even poetry dedicated to wine.
There's nothing "dark" about that legacy. If you go to places like Granada, Cordoba, etc, you'll see a "revived" fusion of cultures that produces awesome results.
Also bear in mind that the Arabs were the most advanced civilization during part of that era
@RafaelMinuesa yeah Spain has an Arab past. and they despise it a lot. they want to get rid of it so bad that it lead to the expulsion and conversion. it was eagerly done until the Muslim community of Iberia was completely gone. Spain did not remain Islamic. Philippines doesn't have to remain Spanish too.
Those were medieval times and everybody was fighting, expelling and killing each other, not only Spain.
If Spain wanted to erase the Arab past, they would have bulldozed the Alhambra, for example. Instead, it has been restored and is now one of Spain's major tourist attractions.
Spain did not remain Islamic, but it did preserve its Arab influence and is now profiting from it. Perhaps Filipinos could do the same?
@RafaelMinuesa I can sense you want Filipinos to revive the Spanish culture. If we would shift to the Spanish culture and dispose our native culture it would be very obvious that the entire world would see us further inferior. It would seem that Filipinos don't have anything original, everything is copied. that is why having the native culture alive instead of hispanic one is far better since there would be a sense of originality.
Actually, Spain is also a mixture of cultures and races. Nothing wrong with that, quite the opposite, it's actually a good thing. Mixed race are always stronger.
What is wrong and makes you look "inferior" to the eyes of the world is to feel ashamed of your own heritage. Your "native" culture, whether you like it or not, is in large part Spanish. And Malay. And Chinese, etc,
That's what makes nations like the Philippines unique. The US, Brazil or even Spain are other examples.

@RafaelMinuesa yeah currently Filipinos got ashamed because he is not western enough in terms of looks and accent etc etc. a large contributor to this mentality is the Spanish occupation. Reviving the Spanish culture would not make us be proud of our heritage, it would further put us into colonial mentality. yeah i agree our native culture is mixed with Spanish and Chinese but still it is largely Malay. And if there is something to revive, it should be our roots rather than other cultures.
@RafaelMinuesa ok i understand yeah Spanish sounds better than English. Latin languages sound more civilized than Germanic ones. I even bought a book on how to speak Spanish and get confused since S. American and Iberian differ so much. i did not say reviving the native culture is to be exclusively within the Malay language in terms of learning. ok ok i admit, Catholicism is the best thing Spain contributed to Filipino culture. .that's it, Philippines a Christian Malay country.
Actually, Spanish is probably the language that is better understood among its speakers. There are obvious differences but generally speaking you can understand anybody from anywhere.
Another added bonus is that you get to understand Portuguese and Italian as well
@fartherasia Don't let RafaelMinuesa try to fool you, he would do anything just to revive the spanish culture in the Philippines. From your comments, I understand you advocate that the Philippine nativize and find their roots more, there is no problem in doing so, as other asians have done it before too. I find it funny how just like everyone else, he tries to bring the americans and english into the equation, and get off-topic...
@RafaelMinuesa Dipshit check your facts, not all of us were "malay and muslim", and our writing systems have some influence from India, but their not sanskrit at all, infact the origin is somewhat hard to tell as of now. Look up Kulitan, baybayin, suwat bisaya, etc. Kulitan itself is a very advanced writing system due to it's calligraphy system.
Don't try to lie about our past... If you have inaccuracies, best not to go spouting out them, you may be accussed of fabrication.
Only a tiny 3 percent of us have mix Spanish ancestry. That's very tiny compared to around 60% with mix Chinese ancestry. And most Filipinos with pointed nose would wrongly conclude they are Spanish when actually they have Arab and Indian ancestors rather than a spaniard.
However, only 28 individuals from the Philippines were genotyped for the Stanford study you're talking about, a sample size far below the minimum sample size needed to account for credible test results in a population of over 90 million individuals.
28 out of 90 million is just not credible and is against common sense to draw any conclusions.
Magellan discovered the philippines??? seriously??? oh you must read more history. you must know that centuries before magellan came here, the Arabs, the Chinese and the Indians already found us... oh well, you have a typical eurocentric knowledge.
Lapu-Lapu was one of the first great freedom fighters who had the courage to stand up to and defeat the evil conquistador and mass murderer Magellan. Viva Lapu-Lapu!
Just to clear this up, there has been an ongoing heated debated as i have been notified.
While Spaniards have colonized the Philippine Islands, little Spanish Ancestry remains. About 2% have Spanish blood, and the Spanish language has almost been wiped out. In fact, even during Spanish colonization, only about 30% of the people spoke Spanish. If the Spaniards think that the people they conquered are "inferior," they probably did not mate.
Why is the Spanish language gone? Simple. When USA unrightfully annexed the Islands after we took back all 7107 islands except for the capital Manila, they BANNED Spanish from public places and media. They imposed English in the schools and other places. Although we have little Spanish ancestry in our blood, culture remains, and I rather would speak Spanish then English, as there are more Spanish speakers worldwide.
Yes, Manila was known as the Pearl of the Orient. What devestated Manila? World War II. Manila was the most devestated city in Asia and 2nd in the whole world, only behind Warsaw, Poland. The Pearl of the Orient was destroyed in a couple days, leaving 100,000 Filipino civilians dead. The Philippines was never fully able to recover from the Japanese raping of the land. I still can see as I visit Manila, some buildings look war-torn and ready for collapse.
As for me, I do not have Spanish blood. I came from the Malay, and have part Negrito blood also. I do not even have the Spanish Catholicism aspect, as I am Protestant, from the Americans. However, I am proud of Spanish culture. It is what distinguishes us from being "any other Asian in the world." We are unique. We are the only Christian country in Asia. Spanish language is mixed with ours. Mabuhay ang Pilipinas! Viva la Republica!
That data comes from an (American) study by the Stanford University Asia-Pacific Research Center where only 3.6% of the Philippine population has varying degrees of ancestry from Spanish and US colonization. However, only 28 individuals from the Philippines were genotyped for that study, a sample size far below the minimum needed to account for credible test results in a population of over 90 million individuals.
The Sikatuna-Legaspi blood compact, for example, is considered as the First Treaty of Friendship between two different races, religions, cultures and civilizations. It was a treaty of friendship based on respect and equality.
Nobody would do a blood compact with people they consider "inferiors".
True, I can see your point clearly. I believe the Spanish did mate with the Filipino natives. The Spaniards did so with their conquests in Latin America, and almost everybody in that area has Spanish blood.
However, I think Filipinos have more of a Mexican blood, as it was the Mexican government (on behalf of Spain), that ruled the Philippines. Philippine Spanish also has a greater affinity towards Mexican Spanish than European Spanish.
Nonetheless, I cannot deny there is Spanish blood in us!
But those Mexicans that came to the Philippines were in turn mixed with the Spaniards.
That's what makes the Philippines so unique, such a variety of races and cultures.
Mixing races on a natural selective manner always produce stronger individuals. Look at PacMan, the best boxer ever.
And mixing cultures always produce the highest cultural achievements and artistic expressions. Pity that Filipinos have been so terribly repressed in that sense in the last century.
Yes, that's why the Philippines stands out from the rest of Asia. You can tell the difference between a Filipino and "another Asian."
The last couple of decades have been tough in the country, as numerous corrupt presidents have taken advantage of us for their own benefit. However, the economy is steadily improving now, and who knows, maybe the Philippines can finally become a first world country!
I don't hear much about Spain in the Philippines. I wish we would have more relations again.
Corruption is a big problem here, but it is worse in neighboring Indonesia.
The real problem here, in my opinion, is that the invading American forces, apart from massacring 20% of the population and destroying the place, they also tried to wipe out anything that smelled of Spanish. They succeeded partially, but the main effect on the population was an identity crisis, that lasts until today.
I wish for the Philippines that assumes their own identity and becomes the Pearl of the Orient again.
I agree. While the Philippines has its bad parts, we are luckier than other nations around us.
The Americans did wipe out the Spanish population, Spanish language, and Spanish culture, and yes it did have a huge effect on the Philippines.
The problem with identity is that nobody is united. Everyone has their own ethnic group, from the Tagalogs in the North, the Cebuanos in middle Visayas, and the Moros in the South. There are 175 languages, and they are "ethnic group" 1st and Filipino 2nd.
I understand Spanish to an extent. I can read it very well, but I cannot speak as well as I can read or understand it. It's a sad fact that I know more Spanish than Filipino, however, as I live in America, although I take as much chances I can to go back to the Philippines.
Spanish culture is still alive in the Philippines, but not as much as it is before, although it can be seen everywhere. Food (thanks for the tapas!), Religion, even in language there are Spanish borrowed words.
@NJNetsFan5152433 Raf, you can't really call it Spanish culture. A lot of the practices we took on from the Spanish and the Portuguese were of Sephardic Judeo tradition. Majority of the Spaniards and the Portuguese that settled in the Philppines were of Judeo decent forced into catholicism by the inquisition period. The RCC used torture, coercion, and terror to force the jews to convert. Even after conversion, the RCC expelled them.
I wasn't talking to you Antoñito, but since you insist.
Spaniards are your Ancestors, whether you like it or not. And so are the Chinese. And the Malay.
In fact the only "real" natives of the Philippines are the Negritos, who were displaced by your Ancestors.
There's nothing worse in this life than being ashamed of your own blood, so please stop making such a fool of yourself, it's very embarrassing, you know?
we don't need your research or any of your stupid thoughts and opinions. Just please stop talking to me already and stop saying any more stupid shit thats just making you sound more stupid than your already are. It's so obvious that your just trying to be smart and superior. Just sthup.
you and that guy should go to hell. just leave us alone. dont try to stir up some shit. get a life. its annoying i have to go back here just to answer your pathetic shit.
There is a study by the Stanford University Asia-Pacific Research Center where only 3.6% of the Philippine population has varying degrees of ancestry from Spanish and US colonization. The official population of Filipino mestizos in the Philippines remains unknown, but it must be over 50&
I agree bayot, I'm lucky I don't have to treat with scum with you.
Instead, my friends are proud Filipinos that are not ashamed of their own history and blood. And you are insulting their families.
You are a real disgrace to this beautiful country and its people.
Filipinos, ignorante, are of mixed race, a GOOD THING TOO. That 3% does not take into account the mestizos of Spanish and Chinese ancestry, which accounts for more than 50% of Filipinos.
@Rafael, your lucky your not near me you insulting faggot. filipinos are Malay! idiot. get that in your thick skull. less than 3% have any spanish blood, so F*CK U! i spit on you and everything spanish! hw bout that? Mabuhay dugong mandirigma!
2 words: F*CK YOU. Everything you say is insulting and stupid. I did not say that theres something wrong about being a mixed race. Everything you say, assume and think is wrong. Stop trying to manipulate and use people. Why dont you just shut up and get out of this video and comment line which I am sure isnt really intended for you.
@RafaelMinuesa i personally dont think having Spanish blood is of great honor. sorry but they 1.)kept us ignorant for three centuries. 2.)cut our commerce and trade with India China and the Arabs. 3.)they loot our golds and riches. 5.)erased our native customs and ways. it would be more honorable to have Chinese blood because they were first to be in contact with us. they trade with us and treat us with respect.....
1) The oldest University in Asia was founded in the Philippines in 1595.
There was public and free education during the 19th century
2) You mean protection from Chinese pirates?
3) Actually Spain put in more resources that it took away from the Philippines. Several times the Emperor was advised to abandon the colony because it produced no benefits
5) If it wasn't for Spain you'd be Muslim now
As for Chinese "respect", Google Limahong and Parañaque
1.) only Spaniards and a tiny group named Ilustrados were allowed in that university you were talking. the overwhelming large majority of Filipinos were kept ignorant.
2.) we were already protected from Chinese pirates by ourselves. When Legaspi came here, there wasn't even any pirate-occupied barangay here.
3.) really? have you heard of the manila-acapulco trade?
The facts are that universal education was made free for ALL Filipino subjects in 1863, poor and rich, a measure that was at the vanguard of contemporary Asian countries.
Manuel L.Quezon, the first Filipino president of the Commonwealth of the Philippines under U.S. colonial rule, acknowledged that fact on his speech in the US, on October 14, 1914.
He also noted that the schools were NOT run by friars, but were "created, funded and maintained by the Spanish government".
@RafaelMinuesa I praise your information about the 1863 education decree. However, only the wealthy ones were able to afford this. And during this time Spain only now have three colonies; Cuba, Puerto Rico and Philippines. it was the time when Spain was very anxious with further rebellion that is why she wish to satisfy the Filipinos. And this is 300 years after she exploited and abused the Philippines.
"... There were public schools in the Philippines long before the American occupation, and, in fact, I have been educated in one of those schools, even though my hometown is such a small town, isolated in the mountains of Northeast part of the island of Luzon. I have seen with my own eyes many of these schools and thousands of these students. They were not "parochial schools", but schools established, supported and maintained by the Government. "
@RafaelMinuesa ok... but again nagpatayo ang Espanya ng maraming paaralan hindi dahil sa busilak ang puso nito kungdi ay upang makuha ng espanya ang panig ng mga pilipino upang itoy hindi tuloyang maghimagsik. sapagkat sa mga panahong ito, tatlong koloni na lamang ang natira sa mga pag-aari ng espanya. nababahala na ang espanya. summary, ang pagtayo ng mga paaralan dito ng espanya ay sanhi ng takot na baka tayoy maghimagsik pa. they built it not out of concern but out of desperation.
And how about the two oldest Universities in Asia?
University of San Carlos in Cebu (1595) and the University of Santo Tomas in Manila (1611), older than Harvard University (1636) in the United States. Out of desperation, you say? I don't think so.
Those are some of the things Filipinos should be proud of, instead of constantly bashing your Spanish Heritage.
@RafaelMinuesa ok it was a great privilege that Spain erected the first universities in Asia. And i have no problem about those Spanish heritage in our soil. Again only the wealthy few availed these universities. Originally, they were erected simply for the education of Spaniard colonists residing the country. the Spaniards never cared for the Filipinos. they started to appreciate it only when she has no other large colonies left.
If they didn't care, why would they bother to build Universities? Remember they were Christian Universities, and according to their own rules, they must take into account the Gospel preference for the poor.
And how about the first steel suspension bridge in Asia, the Hanging Bridge of Manila?
Spain put in more resources in the Philippines than it took away. The “Pearl of the Orient” was called at that time, before the US invasion.
@RafaelMinuesa why bother build universities? Again it was intended to educate the Spaniard colonists. Remember when Rizal studied in Ateneo de Manila he was bullied by the Spaniards because he was Filipino. The Spaniard students were not accustomed at having a Filipino classmate since it was originally for those with full or partial Spanish blood only...
@RafaelMinuesa ok fine. Those old universities have rules that are in favor with the poor. But still written does not mean it is applied. I mean if those universities were really by heart extending themselves to the poor by act, how come we aren't speaking Spanish? Even simple words like 'salida' were wrongly used in Visayan language. If the Spaniards were really concerned at educating us, how come we were so illiterate at Spanish?
The reason you don't speak Spanish today is because the US invaders prohibited the use of the language. Many outstanding Spanish writers were Filipinos, not only Rixal. It is a real shame that you cannot read them today, they were truly fantastic and a real pleasure to read, and their writings would help you understand a very important part of the History of the Philippines.
@RafaelMinuesa limahong was a pirate... he was condemned by the Chinese authorities because piracy in china is viewed as a crime and uncivilised. on the other hand, in Spain, piracy, looting and stealing was tolerated and even praised.. look at what Spain did to S. America.
On November 29, 1574 the town of Parañaque was under heavy attack from the forces of the notorious Chinese pirate, Limahong. The stiff resistance of the barrio residents and the arrival of Spanish forces prevented the occupation of the town.
Limahong did not expect was that the defenders would fight to the end, so much so that the sea in front of the barrio turned red with their blood.
They contributed decisively to Limahong's abandoning his plans to conquer all the Philippines.
What Limahong did not expect was that the defenders of the community, in spite of being ill-equipped, would fight to the end, so much so that the sea in front of the barrio turned red with their blood.
The battle became known as the "Red Sea Incident"
With the arrival of Spanish forces Limahong was repulsed.
Both Filipinos and Spaniards fighting together to expel the Chinese murderers.
@RafaelMinuesa you should know that due to the occupation of the Spaniards here, the natives lost rights in possessing arms. Dahil dito, pinagubaya na lamang ng mga pilipino sa mga espanyol ang pagtanggol laban sa mga pirata. A task the spaniards done so poorly. in fact, the reason why Bantayan Island was named such (to guard) is because it wasoften raided by moro pirates one time entire population was reduced to zero. had not the Spaniards came, we could have not lost our ability to defend.
@RafaelMinuesa and look at us now. the old rich (the spanish mestizos) are starting to decay now. The new rich (Filipino-Chinese) are the ones that are economically successful. why? Its because the old rich was mainly enriched by the old lazy hacienda system. the new rich on contrary is anchored on handwork and industriousness. the old rich are lavish. the new rich are humble and low-profile...
2- Magallanes went to LapuLapu to help the natives of Cebu fight the natives of Mactan
3- There were 49 soldiers against 1.500 natives
4- The mortars in the boats could not aid them as they were too far away and Magallanes stood fighting alone covering for the rest of their men as they retreated to the boats.
5- People who commemorate this act are actually descendants of Spanish soldiers who later came to Christianize the Philippines
I just wanted to say that history is not always as accurate as people believe it to be. For instance, there might actually be discepencies with the time frames. Unless historians have all the journals that have been written by every sailor that ever travelled on the seas and discovered land, historians can make a time frame as to when events might have occurred.
isn't Ferdinand Magellan a Portuguese citizen? denounce his citizenship, went to Spain and ask the Queen of Spain to sponsor an expedition? correct me if I'm wrong... History.. and it was not March 16. It should be March 17 hehehe they had just passed the international date line that time
CALLING ALL FILIFINO'S ABROAD: Let us ALL unite as ONE, by helping the poor in OUR beloved country the Philippines. "WE cannot do everything, but WE can do something". Let's start with OUR own barrangay/suburbs first, then extend...DON'T asked what your country can do for you! ASKED what you can do for your country! Let us break the cycle of poverty, by giving one child(s) an education. WE cannot help them all, but we can START by HELPING ONE, then TWO. So, LETS START WITH 1, THEN MAYBE 2..
qut6, u faggot u liar!!! if that was the case then y da fuk didnt u bitches take it over and claim it like u did in africa? THe spanish discovered the new world period, wat u talkin bout is just a theory, the spaniards also are credited for discovering new zeland and austrailia! u fags try to take all the credit and leave us the short end of the stick like u did us with brazil. Stop ur nonsense and accept the truth u cunts, stop hating on spain and its discoveries. FAG!!
lets thank Magellan..!!!but after that spanish conquistador Legazpi had started to conquer Cebu and later on established the capital of spanish east indies Manila.
In no way or form whatsoever was I attacking the people of Poruguese or Spanish origin. I understand where you are coming from though, this song can be offensive when viewed in a different way.
The world-wide serious historiography, is unanimous by considering the fact that Portugal is one of the countries more well succeded of the history of Europe.
I like the Philippines and it's people I have been there. The people where very nice to me I even went and see the world's smallest volcano and went horse back ridding great place. Mabuhay...
Magallanes was Portuguese. I thought the Filipino new their history, but I was wrong Portugal were the first to sail the 4 corners of the earth. And every place they went they are still loved by the people. Macoa,india,Africa,Brasil... Look it up and you will see. Now in the Philippines, he got killed and that is when the Spanish got their change to force the people into spanish live style. Spain was very brutel. Now look at Brasil... they are proud to speak Portuguese. Spain was bad...
he was portuguese, but became a national of spain and worked for the spanish crown. spain was very brutal?? lol u guys were the worst to, maybe even worser. spanish speaking countrys are also proud of speaking spanish to, and did u kno that spanish is the second language spoken in brazil?? lula passed a law that would teach spanish in school or as a second language. they dont even speak portuguese like that in macao or goa its either forgotten or 1%. Get ur facts straight home boi.
for me this is our history in a nutshell. we were minding our own Godman business when these Spanish motherfuckers fucked us all up and they told the world we were absolutely nothing before they came. When they actually erased our culture and knowledge about our past. We've been hangin out with the Chinese doing trading centuries before these Spanish devils came to our shores and ruined everything!
btw, no wonder you commented, you probably got offended, I know it's hard to accept reality. You can grow up some more and just accept the plain and simple facts and shthu.
And pleeeeeeeaaaease dont even try to reply back cause you'll just sound like a whining bitch-ass sissy.
Faggot, we share the same ancestors with the indonesians and history and religion at one point. you stupid f*cktard. know your history you spanish cock sucker.
If Magellan would have just minded his own business then he wouldn't have died so soon. Psh...Past event piss me off. But its the past. PROUD TO BE FILIPINO :D
book by blair n robertson(search google if u want TRUTH) says,
they wer treated hospitably after almost dying in ocean, Rajah Humabon just wanted trade priviledge, fed them & replenish exhausted supply-spanish puts cross on a hill, prayed on their own-rajah humabon &ppl ONLY WATCHED CURIOUSLY! they tour island looking for GOLD MINES&SPICES, they RAPE&LOOT gold of ppl. thats why natives ask Rajah Lapu-lapu to protect them. after battle they destroy THAT CROSS for the BETRAYAL OF TRUST & HELP.

Truth is, the average Filipino doesn't even think about these distinctions. We can wrap our heads around whether we are Hispanic or Asian... but to us living our everyday lives we just do so and pass our distinct family traditions from one generation to the next without even a second thought about these distinctions. Not until I left the country did such labels even cross my mind. It seems very important to people in the U.S., but not to me. We were just people.
No, actually only 3% Filipinos have some Spanish blood. Due to the Spanish naming system gave a lot of Filipinos, who previously probably did not have last names, or sometimes, had different last names in the same family, Spanish last names. Some of these last names aren't found in Spain because a lot of Filipinos took last names that merely just sounded Spanish.
A book called Los Apellidos de las Filipinas with Spanish surnames in alphabetical order was ordered by the government to be officially taken on by familioes regionally. People by law had to take on these last names. That's how many FIlipinos were given Spanish surnames. Some names were Hispanized to sound Spanish. Jose RIzal's grandfather took on the name Mercado because he was a merchant...but originally he had a Chinese name. Some surnames that end with -son like Tuason have Chinese roots.
So did all of them have to take on last names? So last names like Pallasigui or Dayao are Spanish too? I've always thought that those were "filipino" surnames.
Some people retained their Filipino Names but had to change their spelling so that it would look more Spanish. Some were in such remote areas of the Philippines that they weren't affected by the change.
First of all, Fernando Magallanes was not Spanish. He was a Portuguese explorer who sailed under the Patronage of Spain. Not unlike Columbus who was Italian yet sailed under the Spanish flag. I don't think he would have had time to do any kind of raping. As you know he died during a battle in the Visayan Islands against Lapu-Lapu.
denn555 Must've got his ASS kicked a few times by a short Filipino guy. That's why he made such a bad comment. Poor guy, I bet he's such a wimp and a cry baby.Hahahahah. If den555 don't like my comments aboout him. he can meet me in the battlefield of Iraq where a lot of real Filipino Warriors are figthing the War on Terrorism. RANGERS LEAD THE WAY.
hell yea! im full flip and im thinking of joining the army. with all these mixed races, were frikin kick ass!. and i agree wth you. we were dangerous things in small packages and we will still be dangerous things in small packages. PINOY frikin POWER!!
Im Patrick Doherty and I dont give a fuck about Filipinos, fucking transexual prostitute midget mothafuckas!!! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ..fucking Fillipino warriors..what a joke!! ANY MAN11111111
Im Angelo Verdeflor and I dont give a fuck about Irish people, fucking drunk ass bastards. You are probably so wasted writing this. Hahahahahaha Did someone speckle shit all over his face? Nah. He, like the vast majority of irish people, was born with that crap all over his face. Some people call them freckles, but I call them speckles, of shit. Potato famine-You were too stupid to eat anything besides potatoes.
Before it was called the Philippines Island,in honor of king phillip.< that prick. What's are Island's original name? can someone pls tell me. Thanks.
None... North in Luzon we were ruled by the Chinese warlords... In Visayas, they have their own lands and several native warlords ruling individually... South in Mindanao, we are ruled by the mighty Sri Vijayan Buddhist Empire... So you see, we were warring since ages before Spaniards came so when Magellan picked a fight, he just bought himself his own funeral!! lol... Our land is named after a dumb asshole who got his entire Armada fleet burned to the bottom of the English shore...
Oh by the way, before I forget, south in Mindanao there was a rivalry between Muslims and Buddhists ruling. But eventually, the Muslims stood out because they resisted trade and communication with spain, unlike the Buddhists who took them as friends and get stabbed by those white hairy monkeys and eventually hunted down one by one until Buddhism disappeared... So that's a little about our precolonial history. I hope it answered your question somehow.

in fact lapu lapu was not welcomed at all by surounding islands tribes- that day around 2 thousand of lapu lapus warriors defeated 50 spaniards but his offsprings paid the price when miguel lopez de legazpi short years after that returned to the philippines and whiped out the complete bloodline of lapu lapu- research and find out its proved that since then there was no offspring left that goes back to lapu lapu- the evil paid its price and legaspi laid the foundation of fort san pedro de cebu

ROFL!

Had Spain continue to be attached to the culture of its former masters she wouldn't have the same rich unique Spanish taste she have right now.
fartherasia 1 year ago
@fartherasia
RafaelMinuesa 1 year ago
@RafaelMinuesa yeah Spain has an Arab past. and they despise it a lot. they want to get rid of it so bad that it lead to the expulsion and conversion. it was eagerly done until the Muslim community of Iberia was completely gone. Spain did not remain Islamic. Philippines doesn't have to remain Spanish too.
fartherasia 1 year ago
@fartherasia
RafaelMinuesa 1 year ago
@RafaelMinuesa I can sense you want Filipinos to revive the Spanish culture. If we would shift to the Spanish culture and dispose our native culture it would be very obvious that the entire world would see us further inferior. It would seem that Filipinos don't have anything original, everything is copied. that is why having the native culture alive instead of hispanic one is far better since there would be a sense of originality.
fartherasia 1 year ago
@fartherasia

And if there is something to revive, it should be our roots rather than other cultures.
fartherasia 1 year ago
@fartherasia
Spanish is the second most spoken language by native speakers in the world after Chinese and ahead of English.
Spanish accent from Spain is actually a minority.
I've found a few B&W videos of Filipinos speaking Spanish on YouTube and is actually a very beautiful Spanish accent.
You want to be Malay and Muslim and write in Sanskrit?
Fine, good luck to you. Last time I checked they were canning women for having pre-marriage sex with their boyfriends.
RafaelMinuesa 1 year ago
@RafaelMinuesa ok i understand yeah Spanish sounds better than English. Latin languages sound more civilized than Germanic ones. I even bought a book on how to speak Spanish and get confused since S. American and Iberian differ so much. i did not say reviving the native culture is to be exclusively within the Malay language in terms of learning. ok ok i admit, Catholicism is the best thing Spain contributed to Filipino culture. .that's it, Philippines a Christian Malay country.
fartherasia 1 year ago
@fartherasia
Actually, Spanish is probably the language that is better understood among its speakers. There are obvious differences but generally speaking you can understand anybody from anywhere.
Another added bonus is that you get to understand Portuguese and Italian as well
RafaelMinuesa 1 year ago
@fartherasia Don't let RafaelMinuesa try to fool you, he would do anything just to revive the spanish culture in the Philippines. From your comments, I understand you advocate that the Philippine nativize and find their roots more, there is no problem in doing so, as other asians have done it before too. I find it funny how just like everyone else, he tries to bring the americans and english into the equation, and get off-topic...
I believe that our roots take more priority

@RafaelMinuesa Dipshit check your facts, not all of us were "malay and muslim", and our writing systems have some influence from India, but their not sanskrit at all, infact the origin is somewhat hard to tell as of now. Look up Kulitan, baybayin, suwat bisaya, etc. Kulitan itself is a very advanced writing system due to it's calligraphy system.
Don't try to lie about our past... If you have inaccuracies, best not to go spouting out them, you may be accussed of fabrication.
ThtOnePinoy 4 months ago
Only a tiny 3 percent of us have mix Spanish ancestry. That's very tiny compared to around 60% with mix Chinese ancestry. And most Filipinos with pointed nose would wrongly conclude they are Spanish when actually they have Arab and Indian ancestors rather than a spaniard.
fartherasia 1 year ago
@fartherasia
However, only 28 individuals from the Philippines were genotyped for the Stanford study you're talking about, a sample size far below the minimum sample size needed to account for credible test results in a population of over 90 million individuals.
28 out of 90 million is just not credible and is against common sense to draw any conclusions.

NJNetsFan5152433 1 year ago
Why is the Spanish language gone? Simple. When USA unrightfully annexed the Islands after we took back all 7107 islands except for the capital Manila, they BANNED Spanish from public places and media. They imposed English in the schools and other places. Although we have little Spanish ancestry in our blood, culture remains, and I rather would speak Spanish then English, as there are more Spanish speakers worldwide.
NJNetsFan5152433 1 year ago
Yes, Manila was known as the Pearl of the Orient. What devestated Manila? World War II. Manila was the most devestated city in Asia and 2nd in the whole world, only behind Warsaw, Poland. The Pearl of the Orient was destroyed in a couple days, leaving 100,000 Filipino civilians dead. The Philippines was never fully able to recover from the Japanese raping of the land. I still can see as I visit Manila, some buildings look war-torn and ready for collapse.
NJNetsFan5152433 1 year ago
As for me, I do not have Spanish blood. I came from the Malay, and have part Negrito blood also. I do not even have the Spanish Catholicism aspect, as I am Protestant, from the Americans. However, I am proud of Spanish culture. It is what distinguishes us from being "any other Asian in the world." We are unique. We are the only Christian country in Asia. Spanish language is mixed with ours. Mabuhay ang Pilipinas! Viva la Republica!
NJNetsFan5152433 1 year ago
That data comes from an (American) study by the Stanford University Asia-Pacific Research Center where only 3.6% of the Philippine population has varying degrees of ancestry from Spanish and US colonization. However, only 28 individuals from the Philippines were genotyped for that study, a sample size far below the minimum needed to account for credible test results in a population of over 90 million individuals.
Spanish ALWAYS mate, mate.
RafaelMinuesa 1 year ago
Historical Facts speak otherwise.
The Sikatuna-Legaspi blood compact, for example, is considered as the First Treaty of Friendship between two different races, religions, cultures and civilizations. It was a treaty of friendship based on respect and equality.
Nobody would do a blood compact with people they consider "inferiors".
RafaelMinuesa 1 year ago
True, I can see your point clearly. I believe the Spanish did mate with the Filipino natives. The Spaniards did so with their conquests in Latin America, and almost everybody in that area has Spanish blood.
However, I think Filipinos have more of a Mexican blood, as it was the Mexican government (on behalf of Spain), that ruled the Philippines. Philippine Spanish also has a greater affinity towards Mexican Spanish than European Spanish.
Nonetheless, I cannot deny there is Spanish blood in us!
NJNetsFan5152433 1 year ago
Yes that's absolutely correct.
RafaelMinuesa 1 year ago
Yes, that's why the Philippines stands out from the rest of Asia. You can tell the difference between a Filipino and "another Asian."
The last couple of decades have been tough in the country, as numerous corrupt presidents have taken advantage of us for their own benefit. However, the economy is steadily improving now, and who knows, maybe the Philippines can finally become a first world country!
I don't hear much about Spain in the Philippines. I wish we would have more relations again.
NJNetsFan5152433 1 year ago
Corruption is a big problem here, but it is worse in neighboring Indonesia.
The real problem here, in my opinion, is that the invading American forces, apart from massacring 20% of the population and destroying the place, they also tried to wipe out anything that smelled of Spanish. They succeeded partially, but the main effect on the population was an identity crisis, that lasts until today.
I wish for the Philippines that assumes their own identity and becomes the Pearl of the Orient again.
RafaelMinuesa 1 year ago
NJNetsFan5152433 1 year ago
And that's precisely one other thing wiped out by the American invaders. That unity that had kept the Philippines together for over 300 years.
Read Rizal's The Philippines a Century Hence. In its original language Spanish, if you can.
RafaelMinuesa 1 year ago
And they didn't wipe Spanish culture.
Spanish traditions are alive and well in the Philippines, more so that in Spain.
In Spain, for example, Palabra de Honor would sound like some sort of a joke
RafaelMinuesa 1 year ago
I understand Spanish to an extent. I can read it very well, but I cannot speak as well as I can read or understand it. It's a sad fact that I know more Spanish than Filipino, however, as I live in America, although I take as much chances I can to go back to the Philippines.
Spanish culture is still alive in the Philippines, but not as much as it is before, although it can be seen everywhere. Food (thanks for the tapas!), Religion, even in language there are Spanish borrowed words.
NJNetsFan5152433 1 year ago
@NJNetsFan5152433 Raf, you can't really call it Spanish culture. A lot of the practices we took on from the Spanish and the Portuguese were of Sephardic Judeo tradition. Majority of the Spaniards and the Portuguese that settled in the Philppines were of Judeo decent forced into catholicism by the inquisition period. The RCC used torture, coercion, and terror to force the jews to convert. Even after conversion, the RCC expelled them.

RafaelMinuesa 1 year ago
@RafaelMinuesa I praise your information about the 1863 education decree. However, only the wealthy ones were able to afford this. And during this time Spain only now have three colonies; Cuba, Puerto Rico and Philippines. it was the time when Spain was very anxious with further rebellion that is why she wish to satisfy the Filipinos. And this is 300 years after she exploited and abused the Philippines.

RafaelMinuesa 1 year ago
@RafaelMinuesa ok it was a great privilege that Spain erected the first universities in Asia. And i have no problem about those Spanish heritage in our soil. Again only the wealthy few availed these universities. Originally, they were erected simply for the education of Spaniard colonists residing the country. the Spaniards never cared for the Filipinos. they started to appreciate it only when she has no other large colonies left.
fartherasia 1 year ago
@fartherasia
That statement doesn't make much sense, does it?
If they didn't care, why would they bother to build Universities? Remember they were Christian Universities, and according to their own rules, they must take into account the Gospel preference for the poor.
And how about the first steel suspension bridge in Asia, the Hanging Bridge of Manila?
Spain put in more resources in the Philippines than it took away. The “Pearl of the Orient” was called at that time, before the US invasion.
RafaelMinuesa 1 year ago
@RafaelMinuesa why bother build universities? Again it was intended to educate the Spaniard colonists. Remember when Rizal studied in Ateneo de Manila he was bullied by the Spaniards because he was Filipino. The Spaniard students were not accustomed at having a Filipino classmate since it was originally for those with full or partial Spanish blood only...
fartherasia 1 year ago
@fartherasia
Again, they were Christian Universities, and according to their own rules, they must take into account the Gospel preference for the poor.
Those Universities were founded by Jesuits and open to both Spaniards and natives. The Jesuits actively educated and empowered colonized people.
RafaelMinuesa 1 year ago
@RafaelMinuesa ok fine. Those old universities have rules that are in favor with the poor. But still written does not mean it is applied. I mean if those universities were really by heart extending themselves to the poor by act, how come we aren't speaking Spanish? Even simple words like 'salida' were wrongly used in Visayan language. If the Spaniards were really concerned at educating us, how come we were so illiterate at Spanish?
fartherasia 1 year ago
@fartherasia

With the arrival of Spanish forces Limahong was repulsed.

As for the song, it's just a folk song.

The very first time i heard this song, I ws still very young, and it was my uncle who was playing it in his car!
I loved Yoyoy for his humourous and comedic ways.

The world-wide serious historiography, is unanimous by considering the fact that Portugal is one of the countries more well succeded of the history of Europe.

Spain was bad...
billydakidd2 2 years ago
he was portuguese, but became a national of spain and worked for the spanish crown. spain was very brutal?? lol u guys were the worst to, maybe even worser. spanish speaking countrys are also proud of speaking spanish to, and did u kno that spanish is the second language spoken in brazil?? lula passed a law that would teach spanish in school or as a second language. they dont even speak portuguese like that in macao or goa its either forgotten or 1%. Get ur facts straight home boi.

for me this is our history in a nutshell. we were minding our own Godman business when these Spanish motherfuckers fucked us all up and they told the world we were absolutely nothing before they came. When they actually erased our culture and knowledge about our past. We've been hangin out with the Chinese doing trading centuries before these Spanish devils came to our shores and ruined everything!
antonyo888 2 years ago
Yeah right, whatever ...
but then you should go to Indonesia, where the Spaniards (your ancestors, by the way) didn't set foot ...
Incidentally, do you know where your name Antonio comes from?
Wait, I know, it was an Austronesian name that those evil Spaniards (your ancestors, by the way) took back home.
ROFMAO !!!

First of all, nobody cares about what you keep on saying here, your acting like you know everything.
2nd, I actually envy countries that never got touched by Spanish influence.
3rd, I know where that name, (spelled AntonYo by the way) came from and I did not give that to me.
4rth, the Spaniards are not my Ancestors, you assuming fool.
So now, you can just Sthu and gfy. =)

We were just people.

how come some filipinos like me have spanish last names? Did magellan rape some filipinas?
wikitiki10 2 years ago
No, actually only 3% Filipinos have some Spanish blood. Due to the Spanish naming system gave a lot of Filipinos, who previously probably did not have last names, or sometimes, had different last names in the same family, Spanish last names. Some of these last names aren't found in Spain because a lot of Filipinos took last names that merely just sounded Spanish.
NJNetsFan5152433 2 years ago
A book called Los Apellidos de las Filipinas with Spanish surnames in alphabetical order was ordered by the government to be officially taken on by familioes regionally. People by law had to take on these last names. That's how many FIlipinos were given Spanish surnames. Some names were Hispanized to sound Spanish. Jose RIzal's grandfather took on the name Mercado because he was a merchant...but originally he had a Chinese name. Some surnames that end with -son like Tuason have Chinese roots.
firstjohn47and8 2 years ago
So did all of them have to take on last names? So last names like Pallasigui or Dayao are Spanish too? I've always thought that those were "filipino" surnames.
wikitiki10 2 years ago
Some people retained their Filipino Names but had to change their spelling so that it would look more Spanish. Some were in such remote areas of the Philippines that they weren't affected by the change.
firstjohn47and8 2 years ago
the spaniards weren't really Christians. they weren't following Jesus' teachings when they did things like this.
pynkdahlia 2 years ago
First of all, Fernando Magallanes was not Spanish. He was a Portuguese explorer who sailed under the Patronage of Spain. Not unlike Columbus who was Italian yet sailed under the Spanish flag. I don't think he would have had time to do any kind of raping. As you know he died during a battle in the Visayan Islands against Lapu-Lapu.

Before it was called the Philippines Island,in honor of king phillip.< that prick. What's are Island's original name? can someone pls tell me. Thanks.
sigreento 3 years ago
None... North in Luzon we were ruled by the Chinese warlords... In Visayas, they have their own lands and several native warlords ruling individually... South in Mindanao, we are ruled by the mighty Sri Vijayan Buddhist Empire... So you see, we were warring since ages before Spaniards came so when Magellan picked a fight, he just bought himself his own funeral!! lol... Our land is named after a dumb asshole who got his entire Armada fleet burned to the bottom of the English shore...
nyabinghimohawk 3 years ago
Thank you for that info. Peace Out
sigreento 3 years ago
Oh by the way, before I forget, south in Mindanao there was a rivalry between Muslims and Buddhists ruling. But eventually, the Muslims stood out because they resisted trade and communication with spain, unlike the Buddhists who took them as friends and get stabbed by those white hairy monkeys and eventually hunted down one by one until Buddhism disappeared... So that's a little about our precolonial history. I hope it answered your question somehow.
