  • This is ironic. Whoever Poe loved dies so I know the girl will not live, but I will love to see this movie.

  • watching this trailer makes me wish this was a "Sherlock Holmes vs. Jack The Ripper" movie :( ....... *sigh* maybe one day

  • Anyone else half expect Robert Downey Jnr and Jude Law show up?

  • @AJSZodiac hahahah yea "ello ello ello... wot's all dis den"

  • Would everyone stop with the bloody literacy debates... This looks like an epic movie if you ask me! :)

  • Kony 2012

  • this has nothing to do with the poem

  • Alas, the Imp of the Perverse has pervaded all entertainment of this age and a next-to-illiterate youth is comparing those dark stories of doomed beauty with cheap thrills in what they call 'movies' today. But it is not the first time that his dark imagination was misunderstood. The man was accused of first murdering and then fictionalizing the murder. And of even worse things I will not go into. And who was the man who visited his grave year after year? More than a legend?

  • I do think Johnny depp could do poe and hello did i miss something when does it come out i wanna see thi im a huge fan of poe

  • @anelson2050 I could be wrong, but it seems it might be coming out on April 27th. :)

  • The Pit and the Pendulum NOT SAW 5! Modern horror films do fuckall imaginative. Don't assume Saw was the first -.-

  • Why do people complain at this... Edgar Allen Poe was a writer of fiction, I'm sure he would enjoy this.

  • @VirtageBass Well, Edgar Allen Poe invented the detective genre along with Arthur Conan Doyle but I kind of doubt that this film is going to be good

  • Poe wrote comedy.

  • stop it with saw, SAW 5 did not invent pendulums so cut the shit people i hope this movie is good!

  • @JesusMovieFreak Edgar Allen Poe invented the pendulum, but shit whoever made this movie made this a weird cross between SAW and Criminal Minds.

  • this is pretty much a poetic version of from hell (johnny depp) !!!

  • Right, first off anyone else think Sherlock Holmes? Secondly, look at 1:22...pendulum...Saw 5?

  • @tomossurrey they are murder's form poe's actual works, even if the movie is fiction. so pe came up with them first. sorry saw 5.

  • @tomossurrey to be fair he invented the detective genre and the pit and the pendulum (saw) is based off him oringally :L but i am still dubious

  • what do you think simon?

    LOOKS FUCKING SHIT

  • I'm a little wary about watching this. I'm not going to complain about how people have ruined Poe, by all means, make a movie about his life. But an action/adventure movie? Really? About Edgar Allen Poe? As for the previous comment where someone stated that they ripped off a death from a SAW film, it's The Pit and The Pendulum. The clue was the fact that this is a movie about Edgar Allen Poe.

  • I love the idea and I do like Cusack. I think this movie is better suited to the genres of suspense, fiction and crime. I would not go precisely for "horror".

But people will have to remember (and keep in consideration) that he is /not/ a realistic Poe. This is more based on his detective novels, simple as that.

  • does anyone know what the age rating for this film??? :)

  • @scarlsome obviously R most likely

  • @scarlsome In which country?

In America it has been announced as an 'R' and in Ireland a 16. Its British rating has not been announced yet but as British ratings are usually milder than Irish ones, I imagine it will be a 15. It certainly won't be below that, and I don't think it's quite strong enough to be an 18.

  • Sherlock Holmes anybody?

  • @SanctiCaeli Well, obvious xD Since Poe was one of the biggest inspirations for Holmes.

  • @SanctiCaeli Edgar Allan Poe invented the detective story with "Murders on the Rue Morgue."

  • woooooooooooo . goooooooooooooo LUKE EVANS

  • WHERE IS SHE?!

  • Its STACY , stacy killed archie:P

  • Quoth the Raven, "Nevermore!!!!!"

  • what age rating is this gunna be?

  • @h0lyvirus if your balls droped then your ready for it .

  • is there any blood in this film - i really want to watch it but my friend faints at blood so if there is i want to know- please thankyou if i get any resonces

  • @Nuckels37 yes, there isnt a second where there isnt blood. Even in the dining scene they drink blood, and eat dried blood, whilst in the background someone is frothing blood because he got murdered. Lol i exaggerate, but yes there will be blood.

  • @tangypasta lol thankyou dude awww you got my hopes up tht sounded like an awesome film then

  • 1:20 That killing was from Saw 6 I believe.

  • @mzlunatikcz no dude.... poe had actually written a story on it dumass.... go read books before you jump to conclusions. The pendulum was actually something SAW copied.

  • @LivVilaVida Look, it wasn't necessary to call me a dumb ass. I did read the books but that was when I was in like freshman year. I'm just commenting on where I saw that pendulum.

  • The Raven, the Pit and the pendelum, and masque of red death. I'm pretty sure there was more, but this looks pretty intersting

  • Not going to lie, this kinda pisses me off. I love Poe's Literature, but this is just embarrassing. Really? An action movie about a poet? wtf man.

  • Oooohhh looks awesome! I think i'll stop by the theater when it comes out and watch it!

  • Why does John Cusack have a goatee in this movie? I have never seen or heard of Edgar sporting a goatee like that.

  • Mas interesante!

  • When is this coming out???

  • this looks sweet

  • I'm really excited for this.

    Love historical fiction.

  • I think this movie would be a super box office hit, I am a huge fan of Edgar Allen Poe and have follwed every single one of his works.

  • Johnny Depp, Y U NO play in the movie?? :(

  • This is the equivalent to the passion of the Christ 2, Jesus is back, and he's pissed off!

  • HAHAHAHAH this is just super silly

  • While this is undoubtedly a bastardization of Poe's work and biography....and this is coming from a passionate English major....it does look like a damn entertaining film. And you know what, I rather think Poe himself would find it flattering....in a gothic way.

  • I'm sorry but this looks really cool.

  • I THINK YOU GUYS HATES LITERATURE OR MAYBE NOT A FAN OF EDGAR ALLAN POE ,, WELL BLESS YOUR INSULTING CRITICISM CAUSE YOU ALL EAT YOUR WORDS FOR I BELIEVE THIS MOVIE WILL SURELY HIT ..

  • God I hate meta-fiction. Freakin' useless garbage. It's so freakin' contrived...

  • @MasteroChieftan How can you hate metafiction? I don't really see how there is anything to hate about it. It's just a story in a story and it's a device that has been used in literature for hundreds of years. Sounds to me like you're being pretentious.

  • @cocopuff09120 No, I just can't stand metafiction. It's too contrived. It doesn't work naturally. A good story has a minimum of speed bumps that don't make you think about the integrity of the material or that you're watching a movie. Metafiction creates a 2 foot high speed bump that makes you say "hey, I'm watching a movie"

  • this was put up on my birthday and my names raven

  • I love love love EAP but sorry, I'm psyched for this movie

  • lol The Raven, it'll never beat The Crow :P

  • @MyMessyMind It's not even related! God some people can be stupid..

  • @Littleflower176 Dude its because the titles are practically the same, i was joking! God no need to be such a dick. . .

  • John Cusack is the worst choice for a horror film. Shouldve got Ed Norton.

  • @oddodd1331 oh...you shouldn't say that...

  • @oddodd1331 its not a horror movie, its a thriller.

  • since when was Edgar Alan Poe the equivalent to Sherlock Holmes?

  • @StephenLunsford since edgar allen poe was the first mystery writer

  • @StephenLunsford haha I said the same thing when I saw this trailer. It basically is portraying him the same.

  • Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter radiates awesomeness! This is shit!

  • hell yes

  • Love the Idea but i honestly think there are a few actors who could've played a better Poe, however i'll John his chance. Johnny Depp definitely.

  • @razrblade0kiss0 Yes Yes most deff Johnny Depp would have been fantastic

  • @razrblade0kiss0 Haha Johnny Depp

  • @razrblade0kiss0 cusack's the greatest of all time. so please never dismiss his talents to play poe.

  • the poem was great, this is gay

  • R.I.P. Poe

  • This.... actually looks pretty rad. I love historical fiction and, not gonna lie, kinda dig Cusack too.

  • *spoilers* an escaped orangutan killed them...

  • I'm a literature major, writing a novel, well-versed in Joyce, Proust, Dostoevsky, and Nabokov --

and I couldn't be more excited for this movie.

  • This is like Sherlock Holmes meets Saw... oh and I love John Cusack.

  • @PissGegenDenWind Im not saying that it shouldnt be in this movie, I was just making a point. I think that the movie looks amazing and cant wait to see it Midnight Release.

  • Wicked Awesome. I see no problem with having fun with literature. One of the greatest poets and storytellers of all time? why not pay respects and make something new with his works for the world to see. We have the original and we have the fantasy. How cool?

  • 1:36 Batman

  • He says "WHERE IS SHE?!?!" like Batman! HAHA. That quote will forever haunt me... I will never be able to hear it without hearing Batman's voice.

  • jesus christ....next they are gonna have a movie where George Washington and Ben Franklin are just a couple of loose cannons brought to the distant future to fight a war of independence against aliens.....

  • @mcmahon24242 You should get on that shit and copyright it.

  • Soooo excited for this movie. <3

  • 1:20 same Death Trap used in SAW

  • @krierster So? This film is based on Poe's stories that were written in the early 19th century. The Pit and the Pendulum is one of his most important and most famous stories, so why shouldn't it be in this movie? Just because there was a pendulum in SAW?

  • If you like Poe, check out my cinematic short spirits of The Dead, you might just like it!

  • I have to see this movie!!! I've heard great things about his books! Can't wait!...

  • Love love love Poe! Wish Tim Burton was the director though...

  • Did you know that this movie shot in Belgrade?

im serbian, can wait to see it!!!

  • Already figured out who the killer is. That was too easy and obvious 0:11

  • @ozwald1985 or when poe says he would give his life for her and he says i know you would

  • Comment removed

  • does anyone else think John Cusack is a terrible choice for Edgar Alan Poe?

  • @lstogner I think he's perfect for it actually.

  • @rottencorpse22 He LOOKS the part okay…but he can't act Poe. And to me, he always just sounds like John Cusack =/

  • @lstogner to play devil's advocate .... what does Poe sound like like?

  • @mccinaz Okay smarty. To play devil's advocate, when you think of Edgar Allan Poe, master of horror….and you think about his voice….do you hear JOHN FUCKING CUSACK?!

  • @lstogner sure, why not? when you read Stephen King, master of horror, you don't expect his voice either. Maybe you just don't like John Cusack?

  • Hugo Weaving deserved to be in this movie

  • Not sure if want.

  • I can't wait to see this. Edgar Allen Poe is my favorite poet! :)

  • John Cusack...the Raven...DOES NOT COMPUTE.

  • 3 cant wait to see this 3

  • This looks like Se7en meets Sherlock Holmes.

  • Here's where the stuffy, holier than thou, hyperliterate white folks chime in with their stories about "classics" and how much more relevant their taste in literature, art and music are than the rest of us who want to see this film. While at the same time revealing their ignorance and closed mindedness by showing us that their tastes are actually limited to things that only stuffy, holier than thou, hyperliterate white folks find interest in.

  • Yay, they pissed Cusack off again!

  • So the Police Inspector is the killer, everyone got that from the trailer right?

  • After I was ranting about this trailer, my friend said something to the effect of, "What if this is really just a representation of Poe's madness before his death and it's all going on in his head?" I was like, "Yeah, that sounds awesome. It's too awesome for the filmmakers to have actually done something that brilliant."

  • @DuchessAliana I think that is what the twist will be at the end.

  • john cusack is going to ruin the character

  • they shoulda called this 'how to piss off a lit student'

  • hey if you are pissed off by this movie you will shit a brick when you hear about Abraham Lincoln vampire hunter

  • @knightofbruma IDK… this pisses me off because they cast John Cusack. I'm kinda looking forward to ALVH

  • @knightofbruma That actually sounds pretty badass, I wonder how the history is going to be explained. I'll keep my eye out for that.

  • @knightofbruma I can't help but laugh at that fucking movie trailer! before I saw the trailer, I thought it was some sort of B-movie when I heard the title. lol

  • The music at 1:13 is: Hell's Battalion - AudioMachine !

  • This sounds like the Dante Club by Matthew Pearl, but more entertaining. I can't wait to see it.

  • What in the world did they do to Edgar!??!?!?

  • @DThorn619 i agree but it still looks awesome

  • Um...the pendulum...isn't that in some saw movie?

  • @Bastarden It's one of Poe's story, The Pit and the Pendulum, great read.

  • I'm rock'n the raven

  • This is going t o be good....

  • Its the Jigsaw killer..he's doing it

  • @DOESshotguns if only.

  • as a literature student and poe fan (seriously, I have an action figure) I will be very surprised if this is good

  • Another Hollywood attempt at ruining the classics. Oh wait, we live in an age where this is what people actually want to see... yayyyyy ( NOT )

  • @raduneo classics would soon be forgotten if they were not brought forward and quoted in popular media. And you haven't seen this movie yet, you don't know shit about wether or not it's good :).

  • @Bastarden Not necessarily true. Why do you think some of the classics have persisted through the ages in an world devoid of "popular" media? Because of the merit of the work. Books don't have to be movies in order to be preserved.

  • I had a panic attack when I saw this movie and I just about died. Like I almost....died. Dead.....I need to fucking see it!

  • AHHH I LOVE POE!!! KAWII! lol fangirl moment..... ahhh and there will be many more.

  • that was defiantly a saw trap...

  • @Cabria222 May I correct you: That was definite a poe trap and saw stole it ;-)

  • IM SO EXCITED

  • wohooo.. more of these movies pls..

  • this is just like the bone collector

  • Dude...I bet you a dollar that the Inspector is the killer in the movie.

  • @4him85 i was just thinking the same thing after the first watching. it looks like they gave it away in the trailer.

  • @4him85 You're probably right but, I don't want it to be the Inspector! Luke Evans is too hot to be a bad guy! But even if he is the bad guy, he still makes an awesome villain. But still-that means he would have to die!

  • @1:37 Poe pulls a Batman!

  • I'm so excited.

Edgar Allan Poe is my muse.

But uhm, his love interest is a ho.

  • Excited!!

  • my fav poet and my fav bird! i am so seeing this movie :)

  • the 1915 version is way much better 8)

  • ...what...the...fuck...is...this SHIIIT!?!?!?

Who the FUUUCK wrights so much BULLSHIT, PIG-SHIT, DOG-SHIT, SQUIRREL-SHIT OR ANY KINDS OF SHITS OUT THERE, like this !?!?!?

Whats next... Shakespeare is a 15th century Batman in London ?!?!?!

  • @cordeirodossantoss Why don't you like it?

  • @cordeirodossantoss Shhhhh!! Quiet! You'll give them ideas!!!

The thing is, there's a lot of uneducated people today in the world who don't know anything about the classics (be it in litterature/art/music), so they have nothing (worthwhile) to measure greatness by unfortunately...

  • this is going to be the greatest move of 2012

  • this movie looks awsome

  • April 27th! That's only like... a few whole months away.. -___- however I shall count down the days!

  • "Villains! Dissemble no more! I admit the deed! Tear up the planks! Here! It is the beating of his hideous heart!"

  • *.*

  • "...and its eyes held all the seeming of a demon's that is dreaming..."

  • love edgar allan poe and cannot wait to watch this shizzle! :D

  • "From the directors of V for Vendetta"..is an enough reason to me to watch this movie

  • the only thing is.... the popularity he would be getting from the murders is what makes the movie obviously historically inaccurate... he wasnt popular when he was alive...

    movie still looks great though...

  • Quote the Raven "Nevermore."

  • COMING SOON.

    When is soon?!

  • Im calling it, detective is the killer, obvious plot line

  • @LinnKish yup me too, if you see the trailer you can see that the detective is never in the scenes that the killer is in
