The ones who were protesting the superferry where in the right by doing so (not necessarily in their tactics) and I found in my environmental work that the haole are the first ones to drop everything and say, "what can we do".

So although I'm not sure if I can deter the superferry altogether from our island, I expect to make an issue of it and plan to not be passive about the whole thing. There are big issues with jobs, traffic, and our island lifestyles that have not been addressed thanks to Lingle and I have already written her and the Department of Transportation of the issues at hand. I have also helped to stop the cruise ships from coming in and bringing up concerns with the Hawaii Tourism Authority who decided that the ships were releasing their effuent into Kawaihae waters. This made them bring the ships into Kailua Kona which doesn't have a good facility for landing big vessels as well so they had to put the passengers in smaller boats to bring them in.
correction: coquis are not yet on some outer islands but there are more issues at hand. I have worked on issue dealing with Kawaihae Harbor for the past ten years bringing the stryker brigade here and stopping people from cultural gathering and beach access and the damage the earthquake cause the harbor makes it more so, not a viable place to land the superferry.
We have invasives like the coquis which have not yet went to outerislands and so I am working on the issues and looking into partnershipping with outerislands and watching the litigation details on the news cause if Maui requires them in court to acquire and EIS it should set precedance for all islands.
Aloha guttersnipe, I am well aware of the issue coming here next and have worked closely on issues at Kawaihae in the past ten years and am working on things to hold it back if possible from our island.
Furthermore, my family is from the big island so I have every right to be here and feel better to live in the country which is obsolete on O`ahu (wonder why...) and we (my family) are determined to keep Hawaii country... thanks wood for your educational post... maybe marv might want to read it.

I think that sometimes, the courts overlook alot of things. I think that people do things with the right intension, if not always the right way. That's to be said on both sides of this debate tho. No one is going to do everything 100% right. I'm not totally against the ferry. However, I'm not for harming our enviroment either.

I'm not too sure how much you "respect" these islands. Having the Super Ferry launch would cause a chain reaction in consumption and population on every island.

While I agree with some of the pros that the Super Ferry presents, the one major con that justifies the prevention of the launch is the fact that the islands' natural resources, the diverse way of life and culture will all be erased with time. Please brother, I beg you to open your eyes.

The ones who were protesting the superferry where in the right by doing so (not necessarily in their tactics) and I found in my environmental work that the haole are the first ones to drop everything and say, "what can we do".

So although I'm not sure if I can deter the superferry altogether from our island, I expect to make an issue of it and plan to not be passive about the whole thing. There are big issues with jobs, traffic, and our island lifestyles that have not been addressed thanks to Lingle and I have already written her and the Department of Transportation of the issues at hand. I have also helped to stop the cruise ships from coming in and bringing up concerns with the Hawaii Tourism Authority who decided that the ships were releasing their effuent into Kawaihae waters. This made them bring the ships into Kailua Kona which doesn't have a good facility for landing big vessels as well so they had to put the passengers in smaller boats to bring them in.

correction: coquis are not yet on some outer islands but there are more issues at hand. I have worked on issue dealing with Kawaihae Harbor for the past ten years bringing the stryker brigade here and stopping people from cultural gathering and beach access and the damage the earthquake cause the harbor makes it more so, not a viable place to land the superferry.

We have invasives like the coquis which have not yet went to outerislands and so I am working on the issues and looking into partnershipping with outerislands and watching the litigation details on the news cause if Maui requires them in court to acquire and EIS it should set precedance for all islands.

However, i think you realize if it gets through us,i live on Kauai, it will be coming for you folks on the Big Island next. First thing they did on Maui, they stold stones. They tried to steal truck loads of stones. The only reason they got caught is because the super ferry stayed in port for longer then expected and the stones were discovered.

Your video was ignorant. FYI The people of Kauai and Maui were fighting for an EIS 2 years ago. Our County councils voted for an EIS. We have been in court. How can you say we are late in opposing the Superferry.
An EIS is the right thing to do. Dont blame us, blame out Governor and the Superferry execs. They were trying to push this through the system and got busted.

I think that sometimes, the courts overlook alot of things. I think that people do things with the right intension, if not always the right way. That's to be said on both sides of this debate tho. No one is going to do everything 100% right. I'm not totally against the ferry. However, I'm not for harming our enviroment either.

To Marvnval, I'm not trying to say that we don't want the Ferry at all, We just wanna make sure that they are taking the steps legally needed in these cases. We wanna protect the land as best as we can. That's why we needed the EA statement. I've got nothing against people coming over here. I do have to admit, this isn't very unbiast. There are more enviromental concerns than just the whales. The islands' enviroments are very sensetive. Like the wasp that took over Oahu and killed off those lovely trees. The Frogs that took over the Main Island, or the Madagascar geckos that have a bad bite and grow to be one foot long. Only getting bits and peices of info is not getting all the facts.
