  • Lol. I just made a rudimentary microexpression training program using Matlab. I'm thinking about reprogramming it in Python (which is a free language to download online). If anyone's interested, contact me.

    The code is pretty simple.

It'll flash a face for .015 seconds and you have to tell what microexpression was shown.

  • I can't wait for TSA to start using the facial expression software. We'll be detained for frowning! Just a skip from being arrested for aggressive expressions.

Then, the emotion police can be formed. Very cool.

  • I disagree with "golsno147". Sorry but I believe in Ekmans work n I'm sure there is solid good reason why he dosent reveal certain information to the public. Imagine the wrong hands in could get into...I like your observation. But you dont work 40 years n 20,000 people later to say your findings are false.

  • @bluecali I am not discrediting Ekman or his work. only objecting, as I do to the majority of contemporary emotion researchers including Ekman, that they fail to make the distinctions set out in my previous comment. Experiencing emotion and how we then feel and re-act , including expression and body language ,as a consequence are, in my view, discrete phenomena.

  • There is nothing unique about Eckman's observation that some facial expressions tend to reflect how we feel as does our body language( e.g. someone experiencing "guilt" tends to avoid looking you straight in the eye.) But, everything we claim to "feel" is not emotion and, like most "emotion" researchers, Eckman fails to distinguish between emotion, moods, thoughts, attitudes and the variety of individual responses to our interactions with the environment.

  • I see it when people are full of shit nearly always without this training class aid to do so. It's not a pleasant thing to know how to do, just be aware of that before you think about being able to see what people really feel about things. More people are salesmen than you think.

  • no wonder people act bit freaked out sometimes when they find out im studying psychology! we can really learn to mind read

  • its not nature vs nurture anymore, 'its how much of each contributes to such and such'

  • I hear "Nature vs Nurture" argument a lot. Can someone explain the relevance of whether some behavior or cognitive process is from nature or nurture?

  • @xirishmagicx open a fucking book for god's sake....

  • @xXStoicRhoxXx Which book would you recommend sir? I read lots of books.

  • @xirishmagicx Well, there are people who think that everything that the personality constitutes of is from nature. I personally support B.F. Skinner. Tell me your opinion, please.

  • Well there's obviously a mix between what we learn from our environment and what we are capable of learning from our environment. Being capable would suggest the implicit ability for which is nature. However, our environment have tremendous impact on our lives so it's a varied mix for any individual. It's not a black or white issue in my opinion. You'd be surprised how a little change in the environment at work for instance, can change your entire outlook on life. My two cents. . .

  • @xirishmagicx If it's learned (nurture), it 's not universal.

  • I BET the fuckers dont use this on the lying war criminal politicians!!

  • CRAP! That was fast!

  • Yaaay!! baby's micro-expressions!! xD

  • Yes, there is software available from Ekman. Now I think the only way to get it is on line.. it used to be sold in CD format.

  • the facial expression recognition technology sounds cool..but im sure it will be used to violate peoples privacy..

  • @razieloner77 , i agree. in this worldwide controled societies, our emotions seemed to be the last things that we individuals kept intouchable.... till now.

  • Interesting video. I am a researcher in this field myself. Hopefully, I can grab something interesting from this.

  • @njain1985 And did you?

  • Fantastic video. Thanks for posting.

  • @severnjeff, yes it was the look of 'surprise'.

  • @severnjeff ya what the hell was that? it stuck to my subconscious. damn subliminal messages!

  • @severnjeff the super Greenwich Village-y, "i wanna be on brooooaadwaaaaay*sung*" guy featured later in the vid?...yes we did

  • cool

  • facecrime! This is so bloody interesting, I wish I could find out where to get hold of sofware or anything that could help me train to recognize microexpressions

  • go to paul ekmans site should be there in about 2 weeks

  • There are training programs on Paul Ekman's website..

  • @Costic like the 1984 reference

  • @Costic

METT online is supposed to have been developed by Dr. Eckman himself. I haven't tried it out, so I can't say whether or not it works...but that would be the closest thing to microexpression-training software.

  • @bobjohnson513 false,

there is an iphone app called Micro-expression Trainer.

It works amazingly well and in HD. =P

  • @Costic I don't know about software, but Paul Ekman has written a few books about his work. There is one called "unmasking the face" that has face pictures in the back that you are supposed to cut out and use as flash cards. ( I just photocopied the pages and cut the copies out. You hold the picture in front of your face and open your eyes quickly and close them again (about blink speed). With those and face to face practice, you can get a lot better.

  • @Costic go to 'humintell dotcom'

  • @Costic i have it ;)

  • @Costic you dont need software just go into a cafe or somit and discreatly learn what others are thinking through there facial expressions.. read them

  • @henryparkour Correct you don't need software, but just half-assedly guessing and observing won't get you very far. At the very least pick up one of Ekman's books or something of the sort. However the second part of your advice is pretty much flawless and highly recommended, I have a handful of Paul's books and both the SETT and METT training programs but that just arms you with the information needed to read, nothing will make you a good reader like practicing in the proper environment will.

  • @ShowNoMercy502 yes you are right. what i meant is that once you understand the different facial actions etc the best method like you have agreed is practice

  • @Costic a bit late, but: paulekma n . c o m

he is the inventor of FACS, METT and SETT, 3 awesome training tools for the language of the face.

  • @Costic U can download it...i have read one book "emotions revealed" and gotten the MicroExpressions Training Tool and Subtle Expressions Trainign Tool on Ares!!!

  • @Costic Google paul ekman and on his site he has some programs

  • @Costic I found that the program can be misleading. When you go to google and find some pictures of Ekman's or Lie to me (they have the same info, basically) you can go out, and look for parts of these. In the beginning you'll find them mostly on yourself. I sometimes sense them really strongly flashing over my face. Then you'll learn to fake, and then you'll start noticing.

  • @Costic This is an old video and you may have already found out a software that can train you to read microexpressions or not. But now Dr. Paul Ekman has the software available from his website. Paulekman[dot]com

  • anyone know the full name of the women who thouhgt emotion was diffetn depending on your culture?

  • margaret mead

  • if your "boot" secures it then you should be extremely thankful for this. they are not invadeing his personal space because of his grief but trying to make sure some guy is not about to go postal on the entire airport... again. everyone acts like the athorities are out to get thm when all they want is to protect you. and instead of a thank you all they hear is "damn government" or "f***ing pigs" wont leave me alone. its pathetic.

  • I don't think it's the states business to invade a citizens' moment of personal grief by treating them like a criminal suspect. Grief is very personal and people have a right to be left alone, especially by the authorities. Our Bill of Rights gives us this right and my boot secures it..

  • extremely helpful video if you're into this kinda stuff. thanks for the post!!

  • Wow!

    Very informative. Thanks.

  • helpfull x3 tnks
