This boy is my garand-son and this is the very first video uploaded on YouTube with a cheap digital camera and I am really surprised to find such viewer's various responses.
How old are you?
Sejun is not professional and just enjoying playing the cello with my help.
i also play cello , i'm 12 , i have so many friends can play prelude , trepak, and this one , but your grandson plays soooo good , omg ! i hope in the future can play like him (:
Wow, this makes me kind of proud. My husband (yes, married young, please don't judge me) plays the cello as well, ever since he was a little boy and he's now performing in our national orchestra. Please, young boy, keep up the good work! I think you're already very good, but you might want to try put your pinkie on the edge of your bow, it's very hard, but according to my husband it gives youw ay more control. I'm looking forward to see you perform when you're older (and famous)!
I really don't know how to thank you enough for your praising comment. Though Sejun's father used to be the youngest life-long cello member of the Philadelphia Orchestra for 7 years under Maestro Muti, this boy is not professional and I am just training my grand son as a mere music-lover just for a hobby and daily amusement.
Again, thank you . I have uploaded more than 300 pieces of his videos (mvvm18)
Well, the training obviously worked! I know, he's not professional yet, but he might be when he's older. It's just that I know very few nine year-olds who can play Bach. And I know even less who can do that without sheetmusic.
I know, there are billions of child-prodigy's all-over the world, but I found this very touching. I'll subscribe :)
Thank you so much for your praising comment and subcribing to our channel. He has some kind of desutry-reading problems which cause is inexplicable. But he is now trying hard to learn how to read the basic music -sheets from his father beside my training.
You're welcome, it might be some kind of dyslexia. Maybe you could try writing the names of the notes under the line? I'll check if I can find a video that's easy to follow so that he can see the connection between the sound and the notes. Just to make it easier for him to understand.
Frankly speaking, I cannot read the music-sheets either. We have been relying only on the synthetic piano.
But now his cellist father is teaching him how to read the basic note like Bach Cello Suites on my behalf and he is getting better against my expectation.
Tnank you again for your considerate and kind advice and offer!
@MrsRebeccaEvans Yes. I too am learning an Indian stringed instrument called the veena, and the pinkie just keeps sticking out despite the number of times i fold it back! But now Im kind of better...
AWW wonderful!!! He even left-hand-pizzes the string for large intervals ending on an open string! That was beautiful, a very pure and confident rendition of the piece =)
@mvvm18 Well obviously I meant that it's incredible that he's playing such an advanced piece of music at that age. Genially when you use the expression 'I can't believe it', It means you do but are amazed by what you're referring to. I would have thought that was blatant.
I can see this kid really loves the cello and practicing. It makes me happy to see this, he may not be the best player now but with his efforts he will accomplish many great things.
Being a bassist, we read the same cleft (F cleft). What helped me the most when I was first starting out was The G major scale. Have someone write it down on manuscript paper, or music sheets. And have him look at just the notes, and call it out as he plays them. Once you get G major down, after that its just a little thought and you can read bass cleft.
Thank your for your kind comment in details. But frankly speaking, neither of us are professinal and cannot even read the music sheets. This is the first recording uploaded here. I just let him learn it by relying only on the synthetic piano and Fournier's CD. I didn't even know YouTube ever existed until a few days ago.
@mvvm18 If you have an email adress, I would be more then happy to scan a sheet of music which would contain the notes on the paper and what they are. Anything else I can do just let me know, he has much potential. And It thrills me when I see young musicians with as much talent as he has.
Thank you so much for your offering advice and kindness. But as I am so ignorant of computer-usage that I don't even have any e-mail address. He doesn't have any teacher and I am utterly ignorant of reading any music sheets not to speaking of my grand-son except that I am a mere music lover, I am just training him. That's all I do.
@zackbass ____ yes my name is alex and i had saw that u could make a copy nd send it well if u dont mind i would love to have this music if possible if it is my email is cowpinkmoo@live.com thank you verry much hope to hear from you
I really do think he will reach a very high standard; I'm impressed I haven't learned how to play that. You should teach him how to read music sheets. And maybe he can make his own master pieces, share them with the world someday. I'm sure I would be very interested in listening to him.
@SuperRosSol Thanks for your seriuos advice. I know what you mean but frankly speaking, he has some difficulty in learning the music thaough we have tried hard.
He just plays in his own way. Somehow, he gives no ears to be willing to listen to other's professional teaching of Bach musicality.
So, to become a pro cellist or not to is not yet decided.
@mvvm18 Once again, I see your point, but if you would realize you have a little prodigy in your house. And in the other hand, I do agree with you in that he would have more knowledge if he learned how to read music sheets. I wish you luck in that, otherwise the child will remain, well... what he is a child. Let him grow a bit.
Why does he need to read sheet music? I hate reading sheet music, and I learn all my songs from ear. I learned this entire song by ear and several people have said I sound good. I was first chair throughout my orchestra in middle/highschool.
Your statement really gave me a big comfort. In fact , he has already memorized most of the cello stage repertoires without much difficulty. But if he becomes professional , how can he memorize every cello parts of Brahms or other composer's symphonies or concertos ? That is the problem. So, he is now learning very hard how to read music sheets.
Frankly, I don't know what to say because I had never expected such a response when I just happened to record it capriciously. He just played it in his own way without any professional teaching
One day, I just happened to let him sing in his own way.
