Hauntingly beautiful song and lets not forget the B side Rachael Built A Steamboat, that was fantastic too, give it a listen if you can. Julian stop f@cking about and reform TX.
My favorite TE song ever. I used to play it over and over on vinyl. Tried to turn my friends on to them, but was never succesful. Too British, maybe? That's what I liked about them. Thanks for posting!
Thankyou for this, i hadn,t heard it for years, its just sent a massive shiver up my spine in a good way, its haunting and beautiful, brings back nice memories .......
I love this song soooo much! I used to have it on vinyl - no idea what happened to it - but it was one of those things I used to play over and over. Gorgeous, and such well chosen poetic lyrics too. Thank you so much for posting it.
Simply a beautiful song. Reminds me of many nights as a teenager sitting alone in my bedroom late at night pondering the meaning of the world and my little place within in it. Very special. Thanks for posting this 2dzombie
Anyone else at that gig in Liverpool when this came out - the Sphinx Club or something. Anyway, it had an Egyptian theme. Fantastic band, much underated.
I was a student in Liverpool when this came out. Listening to this it's autumn,I'm 19 and walking through the falling leaves across Sefton Park to Lark Lane. This is beautiful.
Went to see Teardrop at the old F Club in Leeds in 1980(i think) and they were brilliant.Bought 'Kilimanjaro' but then left the UK and wasn't till i got 'Floored Genius' that i heard anything new.Now i find this incredible song here.I feel like a kid at Christmas. Can u still say Christmas in England!!?
@NUMINU There was no reason this couldn't have been big. Laurie Anderson had a No.2 hit with O superman, far weirder & not a a patch on this. Japan also had a very unexpected top 5 hit with Ghosts. The Teardrops along with The Associates, must be amongst the most underrated of bands. For some reason this reminds me of 1 Summer the drama series about Billy & Ickey 2 scallies who escape the Liverpool gang scene by taking a train to Wales. Don't ask me why!
It never went wrong, He's just taken many paths, ... but what a song! has anyone had a look at the books He's written? for Julian too many paths, not enough time, I think.
had tough time in teens and this song along with "song to the siren" with elizabeth frasers wonderful vocal just seemed to light up everything. thanks. a massively underrated teardrop song
This and The Great Dominions are two of my favourite Teardrop songs. Great lyrics and that beautiful plaintive voice. Thanks for the post I haven't heard this song for years.
Very true ... fresh as the day I first heard it on John Peel - it was SO different from 'Kilimanjaro' ... more together. Think FrostedMoses is right - ZBT was touted as a track destined for 'Wilder' - but never made it. Pity ... wonder what song took it's place?
It breaks my heart that too many Americans have never heard the EXCELLENT music of Teardrop Explodes, American Mtv criminally never played their stunning music.
Obozavam ovu pesmu vec 27 godina .. uvek se setim kad sam imao 16 godina ... najlepsi dani ... hvala na secanju... Beautiful song ... regards for all Teardrop Explodes fans from crazy Serb .Best time in modern music .. Echo,Joy,Psychedelic,XTC,Killing Joke etc ...Gang Of Four ... today music is shit ...
YOU GENIUS,what a posting.possibly the most melodic and meloncholy song they ever wrote,no idea what it implies, perhaps nothimg, thank you for stirring happier times
Absolutely another great song from The Teardrops, but do Idetect a distinct lack of Troy Tate? When exactly did he leave the band, and does anyone know, if He's still in music or hwtaver he's doing? He was always a great guitarist and singer to me...
20 odd years ago never. god how time flyes.ile not see another 20 ha ha . but ime glad i was around when kilimanjaro and wilder were out two fantastic albums and what great times ....
Memories of the summer of 1982 indeed... nearly 17 and full of life, my girlfriend at the time bought me this and ive still got it, i used to sit on my windowsill and constantly play this....oh depressed youth!!!!!!.. thanks a million for taking me back 26yrs 2dzombie!.
I first heard this on a warm lazy afternoon in the summer of 1982. What a delight to hear it again on a warm lazy afternoon 26 years later. My grandson has his own unique way of falling down. stepneyguy, it did get to number 41 - I remember having trouble buying it because most shops where I lived only stocked the Top 40.
Thanks for this. I've got it on MP3, but couldn't work out how to upload it with a picture !! I just love the line 'tiny children have a way of falling down' :-)

I was on a bus with a fellow Teardrops fan 2 weeks ago when he asked me which song of theirs was my favourite.
I replied with:
"I really like Tiny Children."
2 weeks and 11 broken bones later, I now know never to say that again.
