  • Hauntingly beautiful song and lets not forget the B side Rachael Built A Steamboat, that was fantastic too, give it a listen if you can. Julian stop f@cking about and reform TX.

  • never ages superb!!!

  • The hairs on the back of my neck . Wow !

  • @mukkaspec Me too! Tears in my eyes. :)

  • Fabuloso

  • timeless brillance! or am i just a sentimental fool. From a long lost era of innocence and no worries

  • My fave band of the 80s.Excellent song this.

  • doesn't get much better, awesome

  • Pure verbal, melodic brilliance - timeless perfection - loved it then and still love it now.....

  • I was on a bus with a fellow Teardrops fan 2 weeks ago when he asked me which song of theirs was my favourite.

    I replied with:

    "I really like Tiny Children."

2 weeks and 11 broken bones later, I now know never to say that again.

  • i heard this so long ago and i,ve just heard it again and it sent a shiver up my spine, what a brilliant song !

  • My favorite TE song ever. I used to play it over and over on vinyl. Tried to turn my friends on to them, but was never succesful. Too British, maybe? That's what I liked about them. Thanks for posting!

  • Awesome.

  • Still a fantastic feel to this after 28 years!

  • fantastic , brill , love it , the best

  • Liked this at the time but strangely it sounds even better now, pity the Teardrop Explodes split up, whatever would they have done next?

  • @drenn63 ... great band ... if they hadn't split up they would have probably killed each other!

  • Thankyou for this, i hadn,t heard it for years, its just sent a massive shiver up my spine in a good way, its haunting and beautiful, brings back nice memories .......

  • To 2dzombie.

Love this song since the first time I heard it. And it was new.

The visual with a Magritte picture is great.

  • Thanks for posting this.. happy memories from a great musical era

  • Hypnotic, depressing in a pleasant way. I like 2dzombie's choice of art as well. Thank you!!!

  • I love this song soooo much! I used to have it on vinyl - no idea what happened to it - but it was one of those things I used to play over and over. Gorgeous, and such well chosen poetic lyrics too. Thank you so much for posting it.

  • sad song.

    Prefer the B side ( remember b sides )

Rachel Built A Steamboat, a classic . After all this time I've no idea what it means.

  • Simply a beautiful song. Reminds me of many nights as a teenager sitting alone in my bedroom late at night pondering the meaning of the world and my little place within in it. Very special. Thanks for posting this 2dzombie

  • Wooo LIVERPOOL

  • Yep, Liverpool is still there. If you are coming from the south, just turn left at Manchester.

  • That was it - haven't been back to Liverpool for 25 years - is it still there?

  • this song has a haunting affect on you, in good way i mean. only certain songs can haved that affect but this is one of em. superb song

  • this song is magnificent

  • I was 15 years old when I bought this song in 1982. A great song at a great change in my life. I still have it.

  • Anyone else at that gig in Liverpool when this came out - the Sphinx Club or something. Anyway, it had an Egyptian theme. Fantastic band, much underated.

  • @soundmindsFILMS Club Zoo at The Pyramid Club. I think it's in Temple Court in Liverpool.

  • top song julian....

  • One of my favourite Teardrop tracks

  • Once again, less is more... The minimalism in this song makes for an immense atmospheric scape. Unique and extremely beautiful!

  • I was a student in Liverpool when this came out. Listening to this it's autumn,I'm 19 and walking through the falling leaves across Sefton Park to Lark Lane. This is beautiful.

  • Ah,I know that journey all too well, many times made, and on to the corner of Ullett Road...!

  • stunning song

  • My fave TE song - thank you (sob) !!

  • Went to see Teardrop at the old F Club in Leeds in 1980(i think) and they were brilliant.Bought 'Kilimanjaro' but then left the UK and wasn't till i got 'Floored Genius' that i heard anything new.Now i find this incredible song here.I feel like a kid at Christmas. Can u still say Christmas in England!!?

  • Still stunning after all these years. Hats off for the posting.

  • remember waiting every week for this to chart, what was the music buyin public thinking, still love it as much now as then

  • @NUMINU There was no reason this couldn't have been big. Laurie Anderson had a No.2 hit with O superman, far weirder & not a a patch on this. Japan also had a very unexpected top 5 hit with Ghosts. The Teardrops along with The Associates, must be amongst the most underrated of bands. For some reason this reminds me of 1 Summer the drama series about Billy & Ickey 2 scallies who escape the Liverpool gang scene by taking a train to Wales. Don't ask me why!

  • So many great memories of this song. Amazing.

  • Used to go to sleep to this on my record player. It's absolutely beautiful. Thanks very much for posting this

  • It never went wrong, He's just taken many paths, ... but what a song! has anyone had a look at the books He's written? for Julian too many paths, not enough time, I think.

  • had tough time in teens and this song along with "song to the siren" with elizabeth frasers wonderful vocal just seemed to light up everything. thanks. a massively underrated teardrop song

  • This and The Great Dominions are two of my favourite Teardrop songs. Great lyrics and that beautiful plaintive voice. Thanks for the post I haven't heard this song for years.

  • Very true ... fresh as the day I first heard it on John Peel - it was SO different from 'Kilimanjaro' ... more together. Think FrostedMoses is right - ZBT was touted as a track destined for 'Wilder' - but never made it. Pity ... wonder what song took it's place?

A classic beauty in these ugly times

  • Beautiful. UK & USA lp 'WILDER' had different song sequencing.

  • Speaking of Wilder, supposedly TE's version of the Zombies' Butchers Tale was supposed to be on it, but never made it. I'd love to hear it.

  • One of JC's best vocal performances.

  • where r julian.....???

.it's all here now mate...u were way ahead. of yr time...........

    ooooxxxxxxxx miss u

    love yr passionate friend

  • Does anyone know the chords for this song

  • This should have been the stepping stone to much bigger things. Its beautiful, where did it all go wrong JC?

  • I missing him so much...time we're had together...always love you...

  • It breaks my heart that too many Americans have never heard the EXCELLENT music of Teardrop Explodes, American Mtv criminally never played their stunning music.

  • Anyone remember "Use Me"? (It was the 'b' side to something!)What a tune that was!

  • Obozavam ovu pesmu vec 27 godina .. uvek se setim kad sam imao 16 godina ... najlepsi dani ... hvala na secanju... Beautiful song ... regards for all Teardrop Explodes fans from crazy Serb .Best time in modern music .. Echo,Joy,Psychedelic,XTC,Killing Joke etc ...Gang Of Four ... today music is shit ...

  • Haunting is the appropriate word.

How i love the Teardrop Explodes.

Julian Cope did some amazing stuff.

  • Why can't Copey write stuff like this anymore?.

Some of this early stuff was just amazing, even the early solo stuff. Then it all went a bit strange.

  • YOU GENIUS,what a posting.possibly the most melodic and meloncholy song they ever wrote,no idea what it implies, perhaps nothimg, thank you for stirring happier times

  • Absolutely another great song from The Teardrops, but do Idetect a distinct lack of Troy Tate? When exactly did he leave the band, and does anyone know, if He's still in music or hwtaver he's doing? He was always a great guitarist and singer to me...

  • Fab,the memories came flooding back, made me cry. Will play it more 4 the mates who passed to the other side.x

  • One of my favourite songs ever, I used to play this over & over. Thanks for bringing back fond memories of my teenage years.

  • My favourite song of all time!

    Without a Doubt!!!!!

Not too sure about the picture though!

  • Wonderful song.

I've never heard this group before, only heard the name. This makes me want to hear more.

  • what an awesome song!

    pauly

  • 20 odd years ago never. god how time flyes.ile not see another 20 ha ha . but ime glad i was around when kilimanjaro and wilder were out two fantastic albums and what great times ....

  • Memories of the summer of 1982 indeed... nearly 17 and full of life, my girlfriend at the time bought me this and ive still got it, i used to sit on my windowsill and constantly play this....oh depressed youth!!!!!!.. thanks a million for taking me back 26yrs 2dzombie!.

  • Had this on 12" 26 years ago. Used to play it to my future wife constantly. Luckily she loved it to. Wonderful to find it again. JC was so cool.

  • WhooooaaH!! Not heard that for a very long time then it hits you like a pick-axe handle. FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Gusgorilli so agree man, Would you believe I haven't heard this for over 20 years and yet today remembered every single word from Lyric.

    Zombie respect for posting it

  • I first heard this on a warm lazy afternoon in the summer of 1982. What a delight to hear it again on a warm lazy afternoon 26 years later. My grandson has his own unique way of falling down. stepneyguy, it did get to number 41 - I remember having trouble buying it because most shops where I lived only stocked the Top 40.

  • Thanks for this. I've got it on MP3, but couldn't work out how to upload it with a picture !! I just love the line 'tiny children have a way of falling down' :-)

  • One of my all time faves

    A timeless classic

  • Great song loved it,reminds me of the world cup in spain 82,believe this got to no 41 that year but not sure.

  • Hauntingly beautiful is right. Thanks for puting this on.
