I fucking love this ending, very dramatic yet subtle: Shand finally knows he's fucked by a much bigger power. He literally has to grimace and bear it.
This film makes a Guy Ritchie's shit look like student filmmaking. Thanks a lot for the upload.
I love this film, and I still believe this is the best British gangster film ever made. I love the music as well...I have this piece of music edited as a ringtone on my phone.
@whitbyjet65 sorry but going for the gun would have been better #1 the gun is in a hand you grab the gun aim at the driver then HOLD THE FUCK ON then punch the living shit out of the guy with the gun get out drag him out make sure he's dead then go back for your bird think if he jumped they turn round run him over or shoot him at least this way he's alive plus a car up with his bird what about the other guy i hear you ask get the gun from the 1st job shoot that cunt too!! much love
this is so intense, i can only imagine what he's thinking.. everything he ever worked for, all for nothing as they have ruined much of it and they will most likely kill him. (though you could be uncertain since they're holding him at gunpoint rather than just gunning him down) they could easily have killed him already at the start but for some reason they dont . either way, he knows he's screwed.
Both Bob Hoskins and Pierce Brosnan's bits were filmed separately. You'd never guess from Hoskins' face, especially after the pause in the music, when a cut to Briosnan is followed by a shot of Hoskins looking exactly like a man resigned to his fate.
This is one of two magnificent pieces of unspoken acting in this film. The other is with Helen Mirren, who told the directors not to bother with her dialogue in the smouldering lift scene with Derek Thompson.
@cbak12sg Excellent commentary - thanks for making it. The only thing I do not like in the film is the lift scene as I do not think that Derek should be trying it on with his bosses (and clearly close friend's) wife. It just does not fit.
The music the Arctic Monkeys walk out too before a gig!!

He might as well have either lunged for the gun or made a wild grab for the door. He was dead anyway so he might as well have taken a risk.
whitbyjet65 2 months ago
@whitbyjet65 The second option would appear to be the logical thing to do.

@alanheath2 Agree, Think I would have taken a chance, take one with me. In saying that as soon as he moved he was dead. Thanks for posting.

Every time I hear this evocative theme, I see the resignation in Bob's eyes, the realisation that he is about to die. What an ending! Thanks Alan.

A really clever scene. No dialogue. It's called acting dear boy. Superb. Thank you.
gerryracer 3 months ago
@gerryracer I think the director was telling him what to do. Bob, himself, did not think the scene would work initially! But it really does!

@alanheath2 Remember that Jeff betrayed Harold, so I don't think it's that surprising he would have made the "lick every inch of you" remark.
