At 6-7, with match point to Agassi and on blake's 2nd serve, Agassi speaks about the decision that he makes. He has a split second to decide if blake serves to his backhand or not, if he has to move towards his backhand-area or just stay at where he stayed. And just when blake throws the ball to serve, he decides to do the former and moves outside the line. And boy, what a decision, what a winner that was. Its so glorious to watch this after reading his autobiography. What a legend!
@WalidBeck You are absolutely right. I am in my early twenties too. Still love Agassi and that era. Good that we can compare. A lot of people forget the past and only like what is present at the moment.
@7manuser thats why it's best to hit topspin and not flat all the time.nadal hits with topspin thats why you never see him hit balls into the net or outside the lines.and i hate nadal.
OH man! Wish someone had the whole match. Much better than the classless Federer and company these days who btw is already ready to give up at age 30...
You can find the whole match in the internet. Just go to google videos and its somewhere in there.
That was a enormous match. Best I ever seen. So many comebacks by Andre. He was down a break a couple of times during 3rd-5th sets but he never gave up!
This is real baseline tennis. Both guys hitting hard and flat as a pancake with no margin for error in the nerviest times. I miss this tennis so much.
i really hate that this video has 22 thousand views and the other ones only have 4 thousand.why do people only watch the last parts of all my tennis videos.pisses me off.
thats also why agassi came back from 2-0 sets down in grand slams multiple times in his career..... he start the match slowly and let the opponent go all-out, then in the 3ed set the opponent rush and play fast to finish the match, but agassi takes the bakk early and run the opponent from side to side and capitalize on UFE.....then int he 4th set the opponent is under even more presure to finish it, and agassi sting him again to take it to 5....and in the 5th. he play efficiently and win
blake lost his cool in 3-0, and started to go for too much in his shots......thats why he lost. he should have done a proper ball construction, and then waiting to hit it hard at the right moment. federer in the final fell for the same trap and enabled agassi back in the match, but his talent was to much for agassi old lags at the end
I remember watching this live, as well...one of the most enthralling tennis matches I have ever seen, surpassed only by Fed/Rafa Wimby 2008 final. I'm pretty sure this is the last competitive match against a top-10 player that Blake has ever played.
@JimmieOC haha Roger Federer vs. Rafael Nadal's final of 2008 wasn't even as good as the 2007 final in terms of quality. It's a favourite amongst casual fans like yourself because of the hype.
Absolutely tantalising tennis. That's one thing Agassi never lost, his ability to the ball, right up until the very end. Too bad nature gave way.
Blake deserves plenty of credit here too, he was playing almost Agassi-like. Hard, flat strokes, painting the lines, taking the ball early, fast in between points. This is without a doubt the most entertaining baseline tennis, waiting for errors, hitting the ball 6 feet above the net racked full of topspin does nothing for me.
Thumbs Up if you watched this after reading Andre's book. I cant believe that an eighth grade dropout can write 50X better than I can and I m in AP Lit. Respect to his writing and tennis game. Great Match.
@ssj2vegeta9000 seriously? he's probably had tons of editors revise and edit his writing. I'm sure anyone who is taking or has taken AP Lit has better writing skills than he.
I was living with a chick when i saw this match live, she was practically begging me to take her to bed, (wink, wink). I was like, "sorry babe, I'm watching this match till its done".. lol..
@jayfey77 The tiebreak had some of the most powerful moments of the match. The drama of a 5th set tiebreak is unique and one I personally love watching. Not to mention the emotional power of the moment with Blake and Agassi making comebacks, each in their own distinct matter.
this coula been blakes only chance to reach a grand slam final, but poor blake cauz agassi was too clutch and strong in the crucial moments. i almost fell into tears when blake lost.
id rank football first, basketball second then baseball here in usa cause most cities dont have basebal like they do basketball, every city here has football college or highschool or nfl so football is always the 1 sport here in usa,id rank tennis 4th here even though for me its number 1.
Great stuff, but in Open AA says that the rally at 6-6 is backhand to backhand. It's actually forehand to forehand. Strange he would just rely on memory.
@grabern yeah i remember reading that and thinking... err no it wasn;t :) he was right though afterwards, blake shouldve finished that dropshot cuz he was there, just didnt put his feet in the right place.
2005 US Open was one of the best slams I've ever seen, along with AO 1995 and 2005 and of course Wimbledon 2001 and 2008, Agassi showed sheer class and proved he is one of the best players in the history, epic encounter, as John McEnroe remarked: Does anyone has to lose this one?
Andre was a truly special player, how he could hit the ball so hard, so flat, I'll never know. Look at the return at 5:14 under all sorts of pressure. Unreal.
What a classic. THAT IS ONE FOR THE AGES. I agree. I wanted Andre to win this so badly. My heart was beating so fast when I watched this match. Yet I kinda feel bad for James Blake. HE GAVE ANDRE THE FIGHT OF HIS LIFE. Also, James hasn't made it to a semifinal. I actually thought that Blake was going to win. But Andre was too much.
there are very few moments in sports that raise every hair on your body, that make your heart skip a beat, that brings every single person to their feat, this one was clearly nothing short of spectacular
