@mcfurley Go down to the coast gaurd station and get a "TWIC" card, and also the application for your "Marine Meriner Credential". Then start looking up jobs on offshore companies like Caldive, Int, Edison Choust, Holbreck Offshore or other boat companies. Those I list work in the Gulf. Hope this helps
It Happens sometimes, but i think its pretty uncommen, but there have been stories, that people in africa found like 1000 shoes, or what else that is inside the container. :)
I could not quite get the scale in my mind, but is that what's called a 'hole in the ocean'? When that wave started combing I thought it was ice, but the thing kept moving! Then the water drops what looks like 50 feet in 2 seconds just before you're wearing it. That camera hand looked really steady, though.
Do these big ships, like smaller vessels, take the sea from a certain angles during bad storms to ease the ride, or just keep on course? This storm in the video?
When your ship is bigger than an aircraft carrier and you have seen her treated like matchwood on a sea from which there is no hope of survival and very close to going down down down down - from crest into trough [and alarmed her head will not come up again] - with all hands on board - you have no idea how unbelievably VIOLENT the sea can be...
Is that something like laying the 03 back to the 02 and the 02 back to the 01 the super being striped clean and the bow looking like a flat bottom pug dog ?
I'm curious. How would the Jahre Viking (ex Seawise Giant) fare in that weather considering she's half a kilometre long and weighs in at half a million tonnes deadweight.
Wow towards the end of the clip the sea really begins to roll with that wave breaking over the ship then the ship goes down in a trough of a wave, this does look fierce weather.
The engineers who create and design mega ships like this are brilliant! Just saw mega planes on Air Force Special. 4 jet engines each the size of a pick up truck blast it into the air with 1 million pounds of Cargo within it.
Definitely some of the worst ship weather on youtube. Breaking waves all around, wind streaked waves, that spray came from the bow all the way to the stern in seconds. Yikes.
Wow, you can see from the (big) size of your ship that those seas must be absolutely huge. I agree with frupert, they must be touching 30-40 metres?. Thanks for posting
Are the containers themselves fastened to the ship, or do they just sit there?
kinito1 1 year ago
@kinito1 they are lashed to the deck

@kinito1 I loved his comment, " That is the coolest thing I've ever seen. " I would have been terrified.

A normal person would panic if he saw that water storm coming towards the window.
This person: "This is the coolest thing i've ever seen" xD

that is unreal!!
say, how would someone just finishing high school get a job on one of these ships with no other qualifications?

Every ship rolls and pitches - yes, including the JAHRE VIKING!
philnottinghill 3 years ago 10
I wonder more how much the Jahre Viking would roll in seas like that or is she so big and heavy that she wouldn't roll at all.

Farnarkler2 3 years ago 11
i'm sure it would be fine. I'd be more worried about being in a small ship rather than a massive tanker.
ferretcat19 3 years ago
Taking into considerations the equivalent pics on the Wikipedia's Beaufort scale article, these waves should be at least force 10-11.
kensai7gr 3 years ago 11
ye, it was gusting to force 12 at times. was one of the best experiences I have had

I was on a smaller ship than that with flat bottom and we lost containers over the side during the night in the Atlantic.

do they strap the containers down?

They lock it to the one underneath.
